View Full Version : Armslist is flaky

Has everyone else noticed how flaky armslist has gotten? I?ve had a handful of people over the last 12 months or so who have simply not showed up to do a transfer and a couple even ghosted on replying to texts. Is it because there?s no feedback or something? Or are there anti gun people trolling there now trying to waste our time? What?s up with that?

No, but you might be right. Honestly, I?ve never used it. I try to only do business with folks on here since they?ve always been standup folks the decade or so I?ve been on here.

I’ve listed and sold one firearm on there in the last 6 months. Went fine. I’d imagine more volume = more chances to find a dud.

It?s like Craigslist for guns.

Either I?ve just always had good luck or I?m better at weeding out the flaky ones than you are.

I?m not saying I haven?t been contacted by some squirrely people on there but I tend to send them packing early on in our dealings.

I've had about equal luck between here and there once a deal is finalized.

On the other hand, the amount of garbage emails there are crazy. No, I dont want to trade my pistol for 8 honda civic takeoff wheels and/or a goat.

As stated previously... Armslist is the Craigslist for guns.

There is 1 flake from armslist joined this forum year(s)(new member sign in). I can tell by location/id/what he does/etc. This guy really made me unhappy that day. I had to drag my kid on rainy day and waited in front of FFL.

FFL was not too happy.
Good part is that he is not active on this site at all.

Oh. I sell a lot of stuff on CL and I post lots and lots of disclaimer on the top of the description to weed out idiots/flakes/trollFks/Scammers.

Armslist has always had more than it's share of flakes. Just like Craigslist. Cost of doing business.

...and I post lots and lots of disclaimer on the top of the description to weed out idiots/flakes/trollFks/Scammers.

I do this, too. And I don't respond to ridiculous offers.

I have been using Armslist for quite a few years and it has always been flaky. The least amount of issues are here and great people. However, some of the new guys that are on the trading post here are acting just like the total Armslist pricks they were there too. Oh well, maybe being on here they will learn some manners. I get more "well they go for X$$ on Gunbroker" from Armslist jokers.

I have met some really good people dealing on Armslist and I get better deals there than here but in general, yeah, it's flake city.

I just sold a few guns on Armlist the last month. There are a lot of flakes that say they're going to buy your gun than don't. The sure cant read at all, I wrote to not email me if they don't want to pay my asking price. They still offer me less than I'm asking.

I'll respond to just about any Armslist email if they can put together structured, coherent sentences and at least make an attempt to use some punctuation. I will even politely respond to low ball offers if the guy seems legitimate. People with no grasp of the English language or a blatant lack of any adult type ability to communicate their thoughts will be ignored. It's typically worked well for me. The serious players usually provide at least a first or sometimes a first and last name in their initial communication.

Why are you guys selling your firearms anyways? I can understand buying them, but why are you "moving" them?

Is the purpose flipping guns? What the hell did you buy it for if you were just gonna sell it anyways. I'm curious, thanks.

I'm like a woman. Always changing my mind about what I want or think I want. I have also been known to make impulsive purchases and often buy things that I later regret buying. I also don't like stuff sitting around and never getting used. So, if I don't use something or it doesn't have a purpose for me, it often goes to a new home where it will be loved and enjoyed.

Did you not notice that the OP has not did his 30 posts in 30 days yet to acquire his trading post privileges ?
Try being a little more observant and give a NOOB a break......

Loved and enjoyed. I have an AK that I think is a piece of shit...but it is a functional firearm, not a reason to sell it and deal with the CL/AL losers. The couple of hundred bucks isn't worth it.

Couple hundred buck ? Have you noticed what AKs are going for versus what budget ARs are going for ?

No, I don't watch that stuff. Is this heading back towards the gun flipping idea?

Lol precisely. I’ve gotta pay my debt to society here apparently before I can enjoy better trading options.

You'd score more on a standard AK then a entry level AR right now easy.

Maybe something better comes along. Maybe you don’t like a gun as much as you thought you would after shooting 300 rounds through it. I agree it’s better not to sell good guns, but sometimes a gun just doesn’t work out the way you expected and someone else might enjoy it more.

Case in point, I sold off a Taurus judge a few years back to correct my error in buying it in the first place. Need I say more?

No, not really. I can get that, but was is that bad you decided the functional firearm needed to go?

That's my question I guess....did the one you replaced it with surpass in volumes, the one you cast away?

Your logic is kind of skewed, Kowalski. Hopefully you question the motivation behind anyone who sells a vehicle or a house or a used television in the same manner.

Also, take a look at your three best friends. If they seem pretty normal then guess which one of the four of you has the mental issues?

In the last 30 years I've bought and later sold hundreds of guns. Some I regret selling, most I don't. I buy and sell for a lot of reasons. Mostly, I like guns. I like trying out something different now and then. I also go through phases...like buying collector guns I never shoot. I used to do that a lot. I had some nice guns that were just sitting in the safe. I decided I'm no longer a collector. If I buy it, I'm gonna shoot it...eventually. Some guns I buy really appeal to me at the time I buy them, but don't so much over time. I'll sell guns to get new or different guns.

There are any number of reasons people might sell a gun. I have one gun in my safe that I've had for over 45 years...a Sears .410 single shot. My parents bought that for me when I was a kid. Other than that gun, I doubt I have more than 1 or 2 in my safe that I've had over 10 years. Take that out to 15 years and I know there's nothing (other than that .410) in there now that was in there 15 years ago.

When I left the PD in 2000 I had over 350 guns. I was able to finance my own business with those guns and that worked out pretty doggone good for me over 8 years.

Yeah, it might be skewed...but I'm different..peanut gallery will verify that.

I guess I don't look at firearms the same way as any other items including property or electronics. I have a few guns I don't really "like", but I choose not to get rid of them just for the sake of getting rid of them and buying another one in it's stead.

That was the point of my question in the first place. Ask a question, get some answers...and that's okay.

You?re obviously not alone in that. But for me (other than a couple of sentimental pieces) a firearm is just a thing that rolls off an assembly line and isn?t any different than a car, a motorcycle, a lawn mower, or whatever. Buy it, use it until you?re done with it, then pass it along to someone else who will use it.

Guns are an investment. For when you need money, they can be sold, or traded for goods and services. There's few things i'm sentimentally attached to, to not sell if the $$ was needed. Did it for the move, would do it again, if needed.

Well then I'm horrible with finances. I can count on one hand how many times I've turned a profit on something I sold. And most of those positive gains can be directly correlated to a guy named Bill Clinton. My big win was an HK91 that I bought for $1300 in 1992. Enjoyed it until 1994 when somebody found out I had it and offered me $3500 for it.

Now is a good time to stock up on stripped AR15 lowers. We’ve got until 2020 to start hoarding them before the next spike over election fears and speculation. I think I’m going to buy a few Spikes and probably 10 or so of the cheap Anderson ones. That’s a solid investment for later IMO.

Last time I tried speculating like that was before the 2016 presidential election. It didn't pan out for me. Too early for me to wager on 2020 just yet. However, there could be some golden opportunities in our near future at the state level I'm afraid.

This is true for almost everyone. A few years back a guy did a story about the value of a very famous gun. Don't remember exactly, think it was Wyatt Earp or other famous old west hero. Was much more valuable because of it provenience. Turns out even being worth a thousand times more than a similar peacemaker or such, was a poor investment. He broke it down based on simple compounding interest and if you put the same money in the stock market. Changed the way I look at gun values. Didn't change the way I talk to the wife about gun values. I've had a few money making guns, but most lost a few bucks. Now that I have to pay a transfer fee and BG check, hardly ever an up side.

Supply of ar just went crazy over a 12 year period.

Last big sale was fs2000 standard. Gees I sold it for 3050 shipped around 2013. Funded scar 16s and kept some $$.

I speculate the next firearm that can spike in price would be arx100.
