View Full Version : SilencerCo Osprey problems

I have the Osprey 45. It?s a badass can that looks and sounds great but I?ve had a ton of issues with it since they day I got it. The indexing locking lever comes loose after about 5-10 rounds. Sent it back to SilencerCo for warranty work shortly after getting it. Still does the same crap. Its gotten worse lately and the can starts rotating when I?m shooting it. Not backing off the threads, it?s spinning on the indexing wheel. I just sent it back again about a week ago. Hopefully they actually fix it this time. I want to love this can but it?s been a real pain. SilencerCo took about a month to not fix it the first time. They have had to for over a week now and I?m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that they will make it right.
Moral of the story - buy a traditional style suppressor. Preferably something user serviceable as well. There?s a lot of good cans out there. It?s a great concept but it?s been finicky. If I had to do it all over again I would have bought an Octane or AAC Ti-Rant.

Did you send in the mount it's on as well?

The Osprey is a pistol can and has pistons instead of mounts. Moot in any case, as the piston doesn?t interface with the timing mechanism. The lever being messed up is surprising to me - my issue is more that it?s a pain to unlock. Hopefully they get it squared away, though I also recommend more conventional designs. Mine just happened to be what was available before 41F went into play. Can?t get the slick SD setup with carbines.

I left the piston in if that’s what you mean.

Yes it’s unfortunate that it won’t fit under the hand guards for some of the newer style 9mm carbines that don't have barrels extending far enough past the rail to mount it with its shape.
I wouldn’t of bought my osprey again if I could do it all over again. I hate that I have to take my light off my g19&17 every time I want to shoot my can.

I have been seriously considering purchasing an Osprey 45. The locking lever loosening on yours is a real concern. Keep us posted on what happens with the latest servicing.
I would like to use the stock sights on my pistol, which is obviously why the Osprey concept is so appealing.

I have an Osprey 45 with several thousand rounds through it and have never had an issue with the locking cam. If anything mine is to tight.

I don't have the 45, but this isn't necessarily something you should count on. Stock Glock sights don't meaningfully clear the can.

Well I finally got it back and shot it after they fixed it. It was doing much better but still coming a little loose occasionally, like every 30 rounds or so. Just not every 3 rounds like it was before. I really think it may just be a weakness to introduce a moving part that’s held on through tension.
My next can will be a traditional style. I want to love the Osprey but it’s been a bit of a letdown. At least it looks cool and it does have a great tone.

Same with mine
OP - sorry this is happening, I would send it back again.

Does anybody have an idea for something I could use to hold the lever down? Like a heat resistant wrap that’s thin and would hold pressure on the lever to keep it in place? I’ve seen thicker wraps for round rifle cans but I’ve not seen something thin and something that would fit over the Osprey profile out of the box.
