View Full Version : Awesome neighbor
Left home shortly after 8a today, heavy snow coming down. Got home about 30 minutes ago to find my sidewalk, driveway and steps shoveled clear! I had about 5 inches of new snow from today’s dumping. My cardiologist keeps warning me to put off my shoveling snow-especially the wet heavy stuff-during the first 12-24 hours providing the sun comes out.
My younger son was going to come over to do it but he?s sick. I need to find out which of my great neighbors was kind enough to do this for me. I?ve been thinking about moving lately-my house, while not large by any means, is bigger than I need. One of the things holding me back has been the great friends we?ve all become.
Truly thankful.

I clear the driveway of the elderly lady next to me. But I’m going to have to stop because it is making me gain weight.
She brings over fresh made cookies every time I clear the snow off. There is more calories in the cookies than I burn off clearing the snow.

Yeah, that's a good neighbor.
We live on a private road with 8 other families. One guy took it upon himself recently to completely rebuild the mailbox stand where all our mailboxes are. Did a fantastic job. Another guy recently graded the road. I plow it in the winter since I live at the end (if it ever needs to be plowed) and occasionally fill in holes. It's nice not having neighbor problems. We still like our location at the end of the road...nice and private.

Yes it is. I agree with Doc, as i'm sure you did when relocating. Leaving a great group of people was the toughest part.
Ok some people ;)

We do that here as well, Bob. She's a cool old lady, and could use the help.
Not sure which neighbor goes around with his ATV plow clearing the sidewalks but he must think I'm a dick. He'll do the entire neighborhood except for in front of my house.
Haha, whoops. Maybe he thinks you're just too capable and doesn't want to emasculate you.

Nah if you were a dick he'd push all the sidewalk snow up to yours [ROFL2]

You should find out and ask if you can assist him with any maintenance on his plow, etc. Maybe he will start doing your portion.
Or maybe you stole his girlfriend in high school.
I should just make some caltrops and toss them on the sidewalk under the snow in front of the neighbors on either side of me.
Honestly, it doesn?t bother me that he doesn?t do my sidewalk but I really am curious why he doesn?t. I think he lives five or six houses down on the other side of the street and I?ve never really seen him or met him.

Probably doesn't care for the biker trash on his street. Or your Feel the BERN bumper sticker [Beer]
Those enormous truck nutz used as mud flaps probably sounded like a good idea at the time Ray.

Maybe that's why. Maybe he's the hands-off neighborly type who feels like if you don't make an effort to be friendly, then he will respect your space in that regard.

Maybe this is the reason your sidewalk goes un-shoveled...

I have a neighbor who is one of the owners at Walker mowers. He will clean the sidewalk on both sides of the street for the whole block. sometimes he even does the driveways, he calls it product testing.

That's awesome to have great neighbors who share the work and all that jazz. Congrats! I try to shovel my neighbor (older lady) when I can, but she's usually up before me! HA!
Still trying to track down the good neighbor and properly thank him.
That's very cool.
It's nice that you're deserving and appreciative of the efforts of others.
I've been clearing the walks on my side of the street several houses up and down for so long I can't remember. I've cleared driveways for all of them and those on the other side of the street as well during particularly heavy falls over the years. I used to clear the drive for my immediate neighbor whenever he was working but he turned into a complete d*ck so I stopped doing the drive although I still do the sidewalk.
For the most part, not one person, unless I was present when I was doing it, has ever thanked me. Not that I'm doing it for that, nor do I expect a knock on my door every time.
However, when I go out of town for several days and come home to have to clear the walk, when all others have been shoveled, it kinda pisses me off that not one person made an effort to return the favor.
It's very apparent where the source of the snowblower is, nobody else on our side that I clear has one. I don't expect anyone to clear my drive, but doing the walk after a small snowfall when it's clear I'm not around isn't too much to expect IMHO.

It always nice to have a neighbor help you out when you down a bit.
Im being a prick neighbor now. Ill plow my drive and down to the county road. I might have even plowed a bit of a burm for the neighbors above me to yave to deive through. I have spent thousands of dollars on fixing the road and all they do is complain. One neighbor had the gall to ask for a receipt for the culverts I putchased as proof I purchased them. He then kept the receipt, so I wasnt able to write it off my taxes.

Great neighbor to help you out, Doc.
Maybe the neighbor stays away from Ray's because he got orange junk on his plow the last time.

From giving kudos to the neighbors for taking care of a place to the neighbors watching acts of bestiality in the barn.

It's invaluable, and I really appreciate it.

He was probably a good neighbor.
Update.
I think I do have one neighbor who actually likes me. I park my company truck in a shaded spot. Looked outside before bed last night and it was still covered in snow. Got up this morning to clean it off before work and it was spotless. There is a younger gentleman kind of caddy corner across the street from me and he and I leave for work around the same time. I cornered him getting into his truck and found out he had taken the time to clean it off for me.
Glad to know I have one awesome neighbor.

I try to be a good neighbor. When I get done shoveling our walk and driveway, I shovel the sidewalk not only in front of our house, but in front of the neighbors to our west(who we have a good relationship with). The neighbor to our east can bite my shiny metal ass.
