A few weeks ago, there was a near-riot in Detroit as thousands of citizens lined up to get “Obama money.”

By city estimates, 65,000 poor and homeless people descended on Detroit’s Cabo Center after rumors circulated that the government would be dispersing $3,000 stimulus checks.

In actuality, the government was handing out applications to people seeking help to avoid foreclosure and homelessness. Just 3,500 of the tens of thousands of applicants will receive a cut of the stimulus funds earmarked for this purpose.

The fact that so many people would line up for a government handout is tragic enough, but the disconnect with reality that these people have is even more tragic. What makes it worse is that our politicians are even more clueless than these poor people.

If you have not listened to the street interviews conducted by WJR Talk Radio in Detroit, you should.

Ken Rogulski, WJR News reporter, asked one woman waiting in line why she was there.

“To get some money,” she said.

“What kind of money?” Rogulski asked.

“Obama money,” the woman replied.

When Rogulski asked where the money was coming from, the woman said it was from Obama. When he asked where Obama got the money, the woman replied, “I don’t know. His stash. I don’t know. I don’t know where he got it from but he’s giving it to us, to help us. We love him. That’s why we voted for him. Obama! Obama!”

Of course! His stash! How silly of me. Here I have been wasting all this time worrying about the deficit and how our country would pay for all these spending programs and the answer has been right there in front of me the whole time.

Obama has a miraculous money stash.

Just as Jesus fed the five thousand with five loaves of bread and two fish, Obama is going to pull so much money out of thin air that we too will have full baskets left over when he is done.

Of course if he fails to work this miracle, then how are we going to pay for his health care program, the bailouts and all the other unfunded obligations that currently exist?

Obama, like practically every other politician and apparently a large portion of the electorate, does not seem to actually consider where this “Obama money” really originates.

This miracle money is coming out of your wallet and mine.

How much more disconnected with reality can these politicians be when they brag about a health care program costing only $900 billion as opposed to $1 trillion?

They are talking about billions and billions of dollars earned by hard-working American taxpayers. What they so cavalierly suggest is that you and me and everyone else keep working hard and just give the government our money so that they can give it to someone else.

That does not sound like a miracle to me. It sounds more like highway robbery.

Not only is this attitude incredibly arrogant, it shows that politicians, just like that woman in Detroit, do not really understand that getting more money means taking it away from the people who earned it – people who are working hard to manage their own spending and balance their own personal budgets.

“Obama money” is your money. It is being taken from you and given to people who do not have to live by the same rules you do. It is being managed and distributed by people who do not live by the same rules you do.

No miracle is going to repay our national debt. The only miracle that will save us is one of our making in which we hold our politicians accountable and demand that they stop spending “Obama money” they do not have.

I heard on the radio the interview with the woman written about in the article. She actually seemed happy to be so ignorant...no, the real word in her case is stupid...of how the real world works.

It's really disgusting to think about the fact I have worked so hard my entire life for what I have (and not just me...but the millions and millions of other honest, hard-working, law-abiding people as well) just so a substantial portion of what I've earned can be confiscated and then given away by a lawless and tyrannical government to some scumbag who flat-out doesn't care where the welfare check comes from...as long as it comes.

I hate what this man has wrought upon our country more and more every day. The way the left has for the last 50 years instilled a mindset of entitlement to so many people. He, and others before him who thought like he thinks, are so part of the problem and not part of the solution.

Obama and the left is killing our country. It really is that simple. I hope those that voted for him are happy.

Let me know when your taxes actually go up. No politician has the balls to raise taxes on anyone but the top 1 or 2%... even though they keep spending.

Also, you should complain when the money is spent, not when the bill comes due. Laying the blame for this at the feet of Obama is incredibly stupid.

http://www.marktaw.com/culture_and_media/TheNationalDebt.html

Take a look at the facts, this problem has been building up for 30 years.

Down with republicrats -- if you think the GOP is any less big spend/big government than the Dems, you have been watching too much biased news.

As for retarded people in Detroit... well Detroit is just screwed. It's going to return to wilderness.

Liberals have fostered an entitlement mentality since I was a kid. I was born in 60.

I'm not blaming the whole mess on Obama. And, yes, the republicans are to blame big time, too. Especially Bush II. But Obama's done more economic damage in 10 months, in concert with a liberal congress, than pretty much anyone else in the history of this country did in their lifetime. And he's just getting started.

Taxes haven't gone up? What are you smokin', dude?

Again...if you voted for Obama, I hope you're happy.

Jimmy Carter can now go to the next life with a smile on his face knowing he's not been the worst president in the history of the US.

I agree printing money causes inflation devalues all our currency -- I hope you support Ron Pauls edit of the Fed! Their relationship with government is an interesting one...

I think that with the exception of healthcare and the nobel peace prize, this last year would have been exactly the same regardless of whether Obama or McCain had won the election. The bailouts started under the GOP and continued under 44, and I think that would have been true regardless of who was sitting in the Oval office. They both would have signed those giant checks.

"Down with republicrats!"

Vehicle fees. Food. Candy. Online Sales (constitutionally illegal)

These are State though, not Fed, right?

Don't try to tell me they are not raising taxes. It happens at a slow - but now quickening rate as a constant factor throughout time. We pay more proportionally today than we did in 1990. Same goes for 1990-1970. Etc.

Agreed and whats worse is we've spent far more than we've taxed, so now we have to service that debt

Biases News? He and the democratic congress nearly spent the entire national budget of previous years (even wartime years) in previous years in his first 100 days. No, he's spending the same as everyone else. Facts are biased news apparently.[Roll1][Roll1][Roll1]

And I don't think it would have been any different unless Barr or Paul had been elected.

You may not find a "tax more spend more" platform popular on this site. Probably won't find us supporters of "it's okay as long as you only tax rich people" either. I'd recommend "democratic underground" or "I don't want to work dot com".

I'm no fan of (most) government spending. But I would rather pay the tax to pay off the debt now (coupled with shutting down spending) than to keep increase the debt and the % we throw away in interest every year. We're just digging a deeper whole and neither of these two political parties will solve it. The only thing the republicans and democrats agree on, is keeping other parties out of the running.

H.

PS: the government spending I do like: DoD, DARPA, NASA, FAA, all the cool stuff. Ok maybe NASA doesn't fit into a strictly libertarian view point, but &$%^@# that's cool.

How about, "Down with politicians"?

Let's get back to what the Founding Fathers were...Citizen Statesmen. Enough of the career elitists on both sides (but especially liberals....[Tooth]).

It'd be interesting to see if political parties is an idea that could be erased... but I doubt it.

I think a strong constitutional republic that skips the representative portion and uses pure democracy with a requirement of something like a 75% majority to enact laws and a 51% majority to repeal laws would be interesting.

Set up something like http://wiki.idebate.org/ to give both for and against a particular law a chance to convey their side, then let the citizens vote (online). We don't need people paid to sit around coming up with new laws for no point... and coming up with crap like "National XYZ day".

It sucks that there's no party that really represents my view point... You can either choose Dems socially liberal and fiscally "liberal", or you can pick the GOP, socially "conservative" and fiscally "say you're fiscally conservative, but then spend huge amounts of money and create huge government agencies like DHS"

Maybe Ron Paul will run as what he is, a Libertarian, because the GOP will never give him the nomination...

By the way...

I started this thread because I feel its important to share such information, but also as a way of sort of wacking the hornets nest with a stick. I love to see what comes out of it.

this reminds me of the radio show where they went into compton and asked what the locals ideas was that: obama was pro-life, how they felt about him picking sarah palin as a vice president nominee. they failed in all categories.

ignorance is bliss I suppose. When you are so down, any resemblance of a handout or something positive will get you motivated, especially when you don't have to work for it and someone promises you something for nothing.

Obama is failing as a president. He can't make a decision on what to do with our troops to get in more support to the guys that need it, yet he can lobby to try and pass health care that has failed for the last 50-60 years.

And really I am not so sure I want to put all the blame on obama as he is just getting start and using the love of the idiots to fuel his quest for a socialized America. I blame Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi as they have been around much longer and waited for these times. their only problem is they are too greedy. that greed will more than likely make the health care bill fail. This next year the shift in power will start to revolve back to the right just as it has cycled throughout history.

To cure some of this mess, there needs to be a 1 limit term on a president of 6 years. Senators need to be term limited as well to 2 terms. That is the change we need.
you ask why 1 term for a president and why 2 extra years? that will make it somewhat fair to get into the job, get going, start working on your plans for the country and enable the president time to work to carry out those plans. only 1 term because in barely over a year we are going to see obama working to get re-elected, not working to fix the country. too much time energy and money will be wasted for a re-election with more promises as to why he should be kept in office.
It will also save the American people from heading to the polls that often, we won't have to put up with all the ads on our televisions, and the president will work to the very end to get his agenda done with focus and precision, not wasting time on a specific issue saying it will take too long and he needs to get re-elected in order to accomplish that goal.

I truly believe Obama will be a one term president. I am already amazed at the backlash in the last 10 months, the questions raised about him as a person and him as a president.

I'm afraid the GOP will do something tragically stupid like run Palin/Bachmann in 2012, or Cheney/Palin, and just get steamrolled.

Ron Paul 2012 Revolution you can believe in

I would love to see a Ron Paul presidency.

I think a good GOP ticket would be Ron Paul Condolezza Rice.

I'm sorry guys, I know this might cause a flame war but Palin is a cartoon character. I just don't see her as being electable.

As far as Obama money, whenever people are feeling desparate and hopeless, a socialist/way-left Democrat will have a great chance at being elected to multiple terms. Thank God the President is limited to just two now. Franklin Delano Rooseveldt, America's most beloved socialist was elected to FOUR terms. People of my grandparent's generation still venerate him as a messiah today. Just as many folks seemingly adore Obama today.

In my humble opinion, unless the economy improves dramatically, we'll see a two term Obamanation... I sincerely hope I'm wrong about this.

Yep,, Have to agree with Foxtrot on that one... If RP wasn't in politics, He'd be locked away in a loony bin somewhere wearing one of those dinner jackets with the real long sleeves... Reminds Me of the uncle that everybody only mentions in a hushed tone at the family reunion...
