80% builds

Sorry if posting in the wrong area. Looked for a 80% build thread but didn't see one.
how many 80% builders out there? And which lowers do you prefer?

I have an ez jig gen 1 and it worked well for an 80% arms lower. Have another lower made by Modulus in the raw. Doesn't fit in the jig well and have asked if milling work is required to use with the jig. Still awaiting response.
Also, does the ez jig provide a template to mill out m16 sear shelf? (Not illegal)

You will probably have to mill the gen1 with that lower, which is why I upgraded to the universal ez jig. As far as I know, they do not have other templates for the shelf.

I like the New Frontier lowers (and uppers) myself.

Shouldn't mess up any alignment, that jig locates primarily off of the takedown and pivot pin. When you machine the rear shelf, just dont pull the takedown bolt ALL the way out. Before they had the semi-universal gen 1 jig, people were milling the hell out of those plates.

You could probably knock down the needed material with a file.


If you're going to keep this up, I would highly recommend upgrading to the gen 2 jig. Heavier milling bit, and does ar10.

Received a response from Modulus today after sending pictures " It appears that our lower is not compatible with that jig".
I'll try filing the jig. Maybe 1/16" should get me there.

Yeah, if you look at that side plate compared to your other lower, you'll notice that it doesn't come all the way down to touch that lip on the magwell. Probably just there to give a bit more clamping force on the upper part of the magwell. A little abrasive encouragement should do the trick.

Used a dewalt DWP611. Small enough to stash, as I dont do heavy wood work. Has LED lights that point down toward the work, and the height clamp works well. Used it with the easy jig gen 2 and a momentary foot switch from harbor freight. Oh, and a shop vac wired to the foot switch as well.
