Gonna do it again.

Last time I announced that there was 1 rifle to giveaway, and was going to surprise a second youngster when the time came. But since there were no "females" entered in the first thread, I had to start a second thread for the "girls only" to enter. So this time I am stating up front that there are 2 rifles. One is going to go to a boy, the other is going to a girl. (wife says one has to go to a girl, gotta keep the wife happy ya know ;) ) Besides, I agree with her. So enter the young ladies too.

Both of these rifles have been gone through by the "Colorado school of Trades" gun-smithing school, and deemed ready to rock and roll. :D

A friend found out what I was going to do with these and volunteered to re-finish the stocks. Different pictures of the stocks (with and without flash) are to try to show them the best I could.

So, without further ado.

The boy will receive a Remington Model-514. It has a 23" barrel, and an overall length of 40 1/4" and weighs in at 5.08 lbs. It has a new barrel, so it does not have make or model written on it.

The girl will receive a Savage Model-3. It also has a 23" barrel, and an overall length of 41 1/2" and weighs in at 4.6 lbs.

These rifles are nothing fancy, but shoot well. Bolt action, single shot, with iron sights, no scope (which, in my opinion) is the way a young one should learn to shoot. One shot at a time, concentrating on accuracy.

So, to the rules.

1. If you happen to be a previous winner of ANY firearm, please don’t enter, let’s pass it around.
2. I would like this rifle to go to a child that does not already have any firearm. Honor system.
3. What age child? Thinking about 8-12.
You know, better than I, if your child is responsible enough for a firearm or not.
4. You must be an active participant in this forum to nominate the child. My judgment.
5. Can be, but does not have to be, your child, grandchild. Can be a niece, nephew, friends kid, etc.
6. Tell us a little about the kid. (Mandatory)
Don't need a life history, but "Please enter Brian." ain't gonna make it.
7. I will end this when I feel like it.
8. I will need (signed) parents permission.
9. This is for Colorado residents ONLY.
10. If you are not comfortable receiving the rifle, without going through an FFL, don’t nominate anyone. Not using an FFL is perfectly legal, and looked at by the BATF, as a same state sale. And since there are no visible serial numbers on either of them, it is not like there would be a lot of information anyway.

Seeing as how this IS for ANY kid in Colorado, I am quoting from the BATF FAQ website (the pertinent part) just in case it needs to be shipped. (FTF (face to face) for the Denver metro area)

(quote)(B7) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U.S. Postal Service?
A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State.(/quote)

Parents, if you are not willing to take the kid shooting, at least a few times per year, don’t enter. I don't want this to turn out to be a dust collector. Please don’t enter “just because it is free” lets get these to kids that (along with the parents) are going to use them.

I hope these rifles gives YEARS of enjoyment to the winners.

If no one else donates accessories, like eyes, ears, ammo, etc. I will make sure that the winner gets at least some safety glasses and foam ear plugs, if they do not have any.

KIDS ARE OUR FUTURE.

I was expecting a contest or event of something. Straight up giving them away is WAY cool. Thanks for the great idea. Could you make a list of things that would be cool to donate? Sling, ammo, etc.

First I would like to say thank you for doing this. You could just as easily sell these rifles and make some money but you decided to do a honorable thing.

Well, I'll be the first to enter my son.

My son's name is Owen and is 7 years old although he is the height of a 9-10 year old. He's in first grade and has been a awesome and polite kid his whole life. I don't know where he got it but it certainly wasn't from me[ROFL2]

We have yet to get a .22 in the family arsenal. I never grew up around guns and I am a first generation gun owner on both sides of our family so I have yet to get add a .22 to the family collection

Owen goes shooting with me out in Pawnee all the time but has a tough time really really enjoying it because he doesn't have a .22. We try to borrow one of my friends .22 when I can with out crossing the "annoying" line with him but the problem with that is my friend usually ends up coming with us and I don't get any time with my son alone.

On a side note a .22 will not only encourage my son to shoot more but will also get my wife out there along with my daughter(age 2) when she gets a bit older.

You are a genuine person for doing this.
Thanks again
Bryan

I would like to nominate my daughter who is 7. She has just started to show an interest in shooting with her brother and I and would love to have her "own" rifle like her brother does.

She is a good kid, attached is a picture from her first shoot, she likes reactive targets... but then don't we all?

Also note that we do have a 22 (her brothers) so if it would better be used by a home that does not have a 22 then please send it that way.

This is a great idea btw, a very nice way to pay it forward.

I would like to nominate my fiances little brother. His name is Jarred and he is 11. Unfortunately he comes from a family who was never around firearms growing up. My fiance had never shot until she met me, has yet to go hunting but I have a promise that she will go with me this year pheasant hunting.

Jared hasn't had the opportunity to enjoy any type of guns. I have had him out to shoot a couple times and he had a blast. I have tried over and over to be able to buy him a BB gun, and I think this year they will finally give in.
He is a great kid, excellent in school, pretty good at basketball, and an excellent video gamer (another reason he could definitely use the gun as it would give him "his own" gun so we could go shooting and get him out of the house).
I can guarantee his dad will never take him shooting, so I am basically his only chance as his older brother is in college and doesn't have any guns. He truly appreciates gifts, and takes care of his prized possessions with OCD care.
If he were lucky enough to win this, I would keep the .22 at my house so it was in a safe and under control at all times and would be the one teaching him to shoot properly as he doesn't have anyone else.

I truly appreciate you putting on this contest! This is what we need more of!

As for the girl, he is a member here (FL410) and I want to nominate his daughter! She could put the .22 to great use! She is the little warrior princess (inside story)!
I will let him put the reason why she would be deserving of the gun, but I can assure you she will be trained by excellent instructors and will definitely be a future female firearms owner!
His Son would also make an excellent nominee for the boys .22, he is an excellent kid and shoots ARs, AKs and 12 gauges already!

Could you make a list of things that would be cool to donate? Sling, ammo, etc..
I am sure sling mounts could be added, just saying neither one is currently set up to accept a sling.

Since you asked.
Some items that have been donated in past giveaways are....
ammo
eyes/ears
cleaning kit/oil
gun case/gun-sock
targets
gift cards to buy above items with.

I am sure there are other items that I have not listed.
But you get the idea.

I would like to nominate my son Zak. He’s only 7 but as your age range started at 8 I believe honesty is the best policy.

He’s been shooting now for a couple of months now and really enjoys it, despite all my safety lectures! He even patiently waits while I take my time to shoot, no whining at all and even picks up his cartridges. His only genuine complaint is that he can’t fire the rifle without me adding some support as it’s too heavy for him!

If he were the lucky recipient would it get used? You bet it would he’d be shooting every weekend if he could. His latest tactic is count how many rounds I fire to ensure he doesn’t get short changed on rounds!

Once his sister is older she’ll be shooting too as I believe all kids should learn to shoot and respect firearms and then there is no ‘novelty’ value attached to them as they get older.

Attached is a pic of him with my rifle. Sorry it’s blurred but I had to be quick as he can’t hold it long.

Hell of a thing you're doing sir, good on ya! I still have my old 514, my first gun that my brother handed down to me, probably around 1966. Still provides the most shooting fun too, it's deadly accurate, not to mention cheap to shoot. God only knows how old it really is, but I think I should refinish it now, after seeing yours.

My grandson's 12, but he's got his own rifles, and all of mine to use too.

Thanks so much for doing this, what a generous idea!

I would like to enter a young boy who I know through our church. I am good friends with his older brother, Matt. This boy's name is John. John's family has gone through a really dificult time, his mother died about two years ago. John takes life seriously and doesn't goof around like most other boys (he still likes to play though). He's been raised in a family of seven kids with a very strong work ethic. All of the children in John's family have been homeschooled. Since their mother's death, my family has been helping teach them their math, writing, etc. John's family is farmiliar with guns, safety, and the importance of owning them, although John ownes no firearms himself. Matt (Jonn's older brother) recently became a bodyguard for a private company called IAEPA. John's father (Mark Sr.) is an EXTREMELY skilled contractor who's specialty is smoothwall drywall. He refuses to give his clients anything but a "perfect" finished job. Mark Sr. loved his wife dearly and would be cheered up to see his son so elated with this gift. John is a young man of only 8 or so years, but I have full confidence that he will spend every year of his adult life fighting for freedom.

This story may sound like sapp, but I guarantee every bit of it is true. If you have a chance to meet this family, your heart will go out towards them.

Thanks,
Dan

Well, like everyone else is saying, this is great. You are a great American.

I would like to nominate my 11 year old, Madison. Madi loves to shoot, she is dead eye with my AR with 22 conversion. She loves pistols, too.
She has the terrible handicap of dealing with a 17 year old sister who knows everything.
She is a wonderful girl, gets good grades, minds her parents (usually) and participates in several school activities (baseball, music, student council, etc.)

She is absolutely the most active of the 2, always running, riding, playing. Somehow she is also a bit overweight which is starting to cause self esteem issues at her age. I have no doubt she will grow into it and become a nicer person because she will know how it feels to be on the receiving end of criticism.
She has asked many times to look at the cute pink .22's at the sporting goods shop. Just seems the time or budget is never quite right.

Anyway, she is a wonderful girl who would cherish your gift. I also know that she would be happy for whoever is lucky enough to win it.

Keep up the good fight. Let us know how we can help with the next one.

Happy Holidays, God Bless.

Pickenup,

Thanks so much for doing this. You can't Pay-it-forward much more than this. Truly incredible [Beer]

My 7 year old is on the real small side, so I'd like to see it go to someone where the stock would not have to be modified...

I asked my nominee (Jarred) to write a letter why he would like the rifle:

Dear Sir,

I would like this rifle because I’m 11 years old. Plus I would love to have something extra in my spare time. My sister’s fiancée sent this to me and I was really excited. I couldn’t wait to wright this letter. I would like to get close with him. This would give me a chance to learn something from him. We could get closer and be brothers. I really hope I get it. It would mean a lot to me and my sister. My sister would love me to bond with him and to like him even more.

Sincerely,

Jarred Gurss

thanks again for putting this together, it is awesome!

I'll nominate my daughter Shana, who is 9 and in the last year has consistently been bugging me to teach her to shoot. She has decided that Bambi is more delicious than cute, and is determined that she be able to shoot so as to be more able to help fill the freezer with Bambi and his cousins.

Also, sure in the knowledge that whichever kids win need enough supplies to make these work for them, I will supply the winners with two bricks of Remington .22 LR High Vel ammo, some assorted targets, a few assorted cleaning supplies (pipe cleaners, patches, etc), and a soft rifle sleeve from my stash of stuff for each of the winners. I reserve the right to throw in a couple other appropriate odds and ends that would be along the same lines.

pickenup, just PM me so I can get with you on getting these things to you to go to the winners.

No kids of my own yet, but I do have a niece who likes to help me clean after a range trip and shows some interest in shooting, although I'll admit she has not shot yet (WAY overprotective mother). So I'd like to nominate her.

A little about her: Her name is Carly. Super active kid who likes to play with her toys. She LOVES anything (yes, literally anything) that is pink. We will walk down an isle in Walmart and see a pink gearknob shifter and she will just say she "absolutely has to have it, always wanted it, isn't it so pretty," etc. HAHA. Fun kid to be around. She is younger (5) years old, but her father is military, a hunter, and very safe around firearms. I'm sure between him and I we could get her to be an ace. Carly likes to be outside and ride her bike. Not much to tell, just a great little kid. Love her to death.

Regardless, I'll also donate some ammo to the winner if you'll PM on how to get that you.
