House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said President Trump?s plan to use a national emergency declaration to to unilaterally provide federal funding for a border wall would set a precedent Republicans may come to regret. Democrats, she said, could use it later to enact their own priorities, such as increasing gun control. "Why don't you declare that a national emergency? I wish you would,? Pelosi during a press conference Thursday, noting it was the one-year anniversary of the high school shooting in Parkland, Fla., that killed 17 students and staff. ?But a Democratic president can do that.? Democrats may try to block Trump?s national emergency declaration in court. They may also pass a resolution stopping the move. Pelosi said Democrats are ?reviewing our options,? depending on what, exactly, Trump says he is going to do. Earlier Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Trump informed him he would sign a border security and spending measure that provides $1.375 billion of the $5.7 billion Trump is seeking for structural barriers along the southern border. McConnell said Trump would declare a national security to acquire more funding beyond what is in the legislation. ?Republicans should have some dismay about the door they are opening,? Pelosi said.

bullshit.... if Dems thought they could get away with attacking the 2nd amendment this way, they would have done it long ago.

In this case she's exactly right. You let the other party set the precedent, and then when you get power, you do the exact same thing for your own priorities. Harry Reid did that with the filibuster rule changes, and once the Republicans took power 2 years later, they were able to pass a lot of things without threat of filibuster.
The Dems know they can't use "national emergency" to pass gun control bills, unless the Republicans do something stupid like that first.

I still call bullshit.. if the dems thought they could get away with it, they'd have done it before... it's not like they never thought of the idea before trump thought of it...

There's a difference between a constitutional right and an invasion of our country by foreign entities.

Not with respect to which is an emergency though.

Not with respect to which is an emergency though.

If looked at logically (I know...won't happen with progressives), there's a big difference between securing a border and restricting a Constitutional right (as stated above). Also, it should be pretty hard to convince a court there's an emergency with guns when people are killed at higher rates with other, readily available objects.

So...Obama's Executive Orders never happened? Trump is setting the precedent?

Someone has a very selective memory fueled by political motivation.

THIS

LOL at the people who think Trump sets a boundary with his behavior. Dems have no moral floor. Which is why they want the guns in the first place!!!

Translation of all of this: there is no rule of law, the Constitution and what made America, America is eviscerated, and we are simply choosing which criminal we like more based on our perception of how well they adhere what we think is good. At this rate, why the hell was Al Capone a bad guy?

No, the elite dream that they thrive on chaos. They need us more than we need them, just like the government.

Yeah, they call it "creative destruction".

But that is one of the aspects of capitalism and the elite don't want capitalism.

Trump should declare a national emergency and have all the democrats arrested as traitors to the nation. They can then be tried and hung by their necks until dead.

The elite don't want capitalism for most of society, but for themselves they want to be in control of all of it. They love capital and capitalism, but only for themselves.

True, but they can't have it without us.

Or when the average homicide rate for the last decade is lower than its been since the 1950s when we had almost no gun laws.

"National emergency" is an executive branch action which bypasses Congress.

Who do they think would enforce such measures? Haven't they been paying attention to Colorado and Washington State?

Security of the border is the responsibility of the Executive Branch.
Suspension of enumerated Constitutional Rights is not.

Just another Pelosi fail.
