Who's playing it? It's an AAA title that is free to play for PC, PS & Xbox. It's a Battle Royale format first person shooter that's been out for a week and has 25mil players already.
I've been playing it off and on for about a week or so and finally got some decent time behind the wheel over this last weekend. It's a very smooth playing game with a few small bugs here and there but otherwise is incredible polished for what amounts to a free to play beta. Considering how big Fortnite is it's the obvious comparison but the game-play and feel is completely different. The lack of building and requirement to use static cover will feel familiar to those coming from Call of Duty and similar games which was a welcomed departure for me. I never could quite get the hang of "Oh, I'm being shot at... I need to build wall first!" idea behind Fortnite. Don't get me wrong, that's a fun game but the decades of FPS in me just wants to go HAM on attackers and dish out damage which usually is a losing proposition in a game like Fortnite that puts so much emphasis on building.
I digress.
If you haven't yet installed (only about 20GB) and played this game I highly recommend taking it for a spin. I've paid for much worse games than this one. If it's trajectory as far as improvement and growth emulates anything similar to Fortnite this is going to be an amazing game when you consider what Fortnite was when it launched versus where it is now. Apex Legends is already a solid contender and it's only just gone live.
