Ben Lomand Gun Club in Ramah hosts monthly USPSA/IPSC Matches run by High Plains Practical Shooters. Normally the 3rd Saturday of every month. http://ecouspsa.com/schedule.htm

Plan on 5 stages and a 10:00 start time.

The map on the ECO site sucks and will get most normal humans nothing but lost and pissed. Go here for more info on Ben Lomand http://www.blgc.org/

I thought there was a thread for this match, but I can't seem to find it.

Every third Saturday of the month, there's a match at Ben Lomand Gun Club. We follow the USPSA rules for this match.

Set up starts at 0730, and the shooter's meeting is at 0945. We typically run 5 or 6 stages and a round count averaging around 120 rounds. I recommend bringing aproximately 200 rounds.

I do a new shooters safety orientation before the match. This starts at 0730. Please contact me or the club president before the match if you would like to take the safety orientation. After completion of the safety orientation, you can shoot the match. We use a mentor system and pair new shooters with experienced shooters during the match to assist them. All USPSA clubs operating in Eastern CO require a new shooter take a safety orientation before their first match.

The new shooters orientation starts at 0730. Find me (Sean) or Todd or Ken when you get there and we will get you and your buddy started.

If you have any questions about the gear or ammo to bring for the match, or you might need some help getting additional gear for the match, PM me. It helps a lot to have the gear you need at the match, and I have kinda acquired a few uh... extra... items over the years as do most regular USPSA shooters. We can usually help out if additional gear is needed, expecially if we know beforehand.

I just wanted to say thanks to the guys who put on the new shooters class and everybody who gave advice and helped the new guys out. This was a humbling but fun match.

I was also wondering if anybody has the contact info for the gentleman who had the "SHOOT MORE, BITCH LESS" stickers. I forgot to get ahold of him after the match and would really like to get a couple of stickers from him. Feel free to PM his info. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Brian.

Another match successfully completed. It was almost anti-climatic after running the CO State match out there last month.

Lots of aiming required at today's match. A few needed oxygen administered after shooting Cha-lee's MASSIVE field course (It covered all of berm two, ya the one that we usually put TWO stages on).

Cha-lee pulled out a division win by a whopping 0.06%, and I got beat out of a production win by a lowly C class shooter having a good match (me, not so much).

Till next month.

I wish I won.... I was Second in Limited by a massive 0.58%. Oh well, there is always next time :)

My favorite stage was my stage with all of the running around. Its not common to have a stage where you can run full out for long distances between shooting positions. I ended up ROing the majority of my squad on this stage so I got an extra workout. Thats ok though because I can stand to lose some weight.

Here are my video's from the match for all of those that missed out.

HPPS is having a work party this coming Sunday (11-25-12). The goal of the work party is to build two new Safe Area’s into the ends of the new competition bays. We will be using railroad ties for the structure of the safe areas and they are very dirty so if you come out to help wear some “Disposable” clothes as whatever you wear may be ruined by the dirty railroad ties. We will be starting at 8 AM at the competition bays and have all the tools needed to get the job done. All we need are volunteers to help make it happen. If you are free to help on Sunday please come out and help. For Ben Lomond members, assisting with this work party day does count against your Work Bond hours. So if you still need to get some Work Bond hours completed before year end this is an excellent opportunity to get it done.

If you can make it please let Charlie Perez know by calling him at 303-882-6728. Thanks in advance for helping with this project. The addition of the Safety Areas will greatly enhance the shooting experience for all shooters using the new competition bays.

The HPPS club will be hosting another USPSA match at the Ben Lomond Gun Club this coming Saturday. For more information about the club or range please visit the HPPS website at www.hpps.org (http://www.hpps.org). The weather is forecast to be clear with a high temp of 54 degrees. This clear and warm weather is a welcomed change verses the arctic blast we had last weekend.

Stage Setup starts at 7:30AM
Match Registration starts at 8:30AM
Shooters Meeting at 9:45AM
Shooting Starts at 10:00AM

We will be running this match a little different this weekend. We are going to try a different way of using the stages in order to test some options proposed for the Mile High Showdown. We will have 6 stages to shoot, but there will not be a classifier stage. There will be plenty of shooting as the 6 stages will require a minimum of 154 rounds, so bring plenty of ammo to the match. You don’t want your shooting entertainment cut short by running out of ammo.

For our test to work properly we will need the squads to stick to a strict time schedule. We will distribute a match schedule to each squad during the shooters meeting. Please adhere to the defined match schedule, even if you are ahead of schedule. If you get ahead or behind schedule it will cause squad log jam issues which will invalidate the test.

Another Requirement for our test to work properly is to limit the maximum number of shooters to a total of 45. I hate to mandate a maximum shooter limit for a club match but this is required for this test to work properly. We will open match registration at 8:30AM and it will be run as first come first serve. If you delay in signing up and end up being the 46+ shooter, then you will be out of luck as you will not be able to participate in the match. I hate to turn people away that have driven all the way out to the range, but over subscribing the match registration will circumvent the effectiveness of the testing we plan on doing. We will do our best to get as many shooters into the match as possible, but we must stick to the 45 shooter limit.

Lastly, we had a few HPPS Club Board Members step down for the 2013 shooting season. We need to back fill their Board Positions. If you are interested in stepping up to the challenge of being on the HPPS Board and assisting with setting up and hosting the club matches please let me know. The only way these matches happen is with the volunteer help of very generous and dedicated shooters. If you have the ability to give back to the sport by volunteering your efforts on the HPPS Board please do so. These USPSA matches don’t happen magically all on their own.

Thank you for your time. See you bright and early Saturday morning.

The Ben Lomond Gun Club as lucky to not get hit hard by the snow this week and we are being rewarded with DRY bays to shoot on for the HPPS match this Saturday. The weather forecast is calling for clear skies and a high of 55 - 60 degrees so it will be good shooting weather. The HPPS Board will be down three people this match including myself. Dan Madajski will be serving as the Match Director in my absence. I would like to make an official request of the local shooters to PLEASE come out early and help setup the stages if you can. These matches can only happen with the dedicated volunteer help of the local shooters. Please step up to the challenge and help make this match happen, your efforts will be much appreciated!!!

Lastly, Dan Madajski is trying to pull together some .22LR ammo for the Junior 4H shooters program. If you have any extra .22LR ammo that you would be willing to donate to the cause please get it to Dan. The Junior shooters are the future of our shooting sports, lets do our best to keep them involved with the shooting sports.

The HPPS club will be hosting another USPSA match at the Ben Lomond Gun Club this coming Saturday. For more information about the club or range please visit the HPPS website at www.hpps.org (http://www.hpps.org). The weather is forecast to be sunny with a high temp of 76 degrees. The spring shooting weather is FINALLY here and its nice to put the cold snow days behind us. Don't forget to bring plenty of liquids to stay hydrated and sunscreen to keep the sun burns at bay. We are planning on setting up 6 fun stages to shoot. If you can come out early and help setup that would be much appreciated.

May 18th is "Armed Forces Day". In our effort to honor our "Armed Forces" shooters we are offering half price match fee's ($10 instead of $20) for all active or retired Armed Forces shooters. An Armed Forces shooter is defined as being Active or Retired Military or Police. We will be using the Honor System with issuing the match discount so please let the registration team know if you are eligible for the "Armed Forces Day" discount. I want to thank all of the Military and Police for their dedication in keeping us safe both at home and abroad!!!!

At the last club match we requested that you bring any extra .22LR ammo you my have to donate to the Junior 4H Shooting program. I am happy to report that many people stepped up to the challenge and donated a bunch of .22LR ammo for the program. The Junior 4H Shooting program welcomed our donation graciously and made good use of the ammo at their next event. I wanted to thank everyone for doing what they could in order to keep our junior shooters involved with shooting activities. These young shooters are the future of the shooting sports and its very rewarding to be able to assist them in continuing their marksmanship adventure. If you want more details about the Junior 4H Shooting program please talk to Dan Madajski about it.

The HPPS club will be hosting another USPSA match at the Ben Lomond Gun Club this coming Saturday. For more information about the club or range please visit the HPPS website at www.hpps.org (http://www.hpps.org). The weather is forecast to be nice with a high temp of 88 degrees. We are planning on setting up 6 fun stages to shoot.

PLEASE READ THIS PART!!!!
The Ben Lomond Gun Club has recently installed an Electronic Front Gate and it will remain CLOSED at all times. Everyone entering and exiting the range must input a gate code. The HPPS Club has been given a dedicated gate code of 24646 for our matches. For all shooters who are NOT BLGC range members, please use 24646 as the gate code to enter and exit the range. If you are a BLGC member, please use the normal member only gate code to enter and exit the range. The HPPS club does not have the bandwidth to post a babysitter at the front gate to let shooters in who forgot what the HPPS match gate code is. Write this gate code down so you have it available to use on match day. I will have my cell phone on me in the morning, but the cell coverage out there is spotty at best. You can try to call me for assistance but I can’t guarantee that I will get your call.

HPPS Match Gate Code = 24646

Once again we have a couple of HPPS board members that will not be able to make it to this club match. Since the HPPS board members are the primary setup crew we will be a little short handed in the morning during setup. If you can come out early and help setup it would be much appreciated. You even get a $5 discount for helping out with setup in the morning. Please remember that this is a volunteer sport and matches can’t happen without the help and dedication of its competitors. If you can pitch in and help setup please do.

Stage Setup starts at 7:30AM
Match Registration starts at 8:30AM
Shooters Meeting at 9:45AM
Shooting Starts at 10:00AM

Thank you for your time.

The HPPS club will be hosting a special 10 Stage USPSA club match at the Ben Lomond Gun Club this coming Saturday. There will be 10 stages of blasting entertainment for the same match fee as a normal club match ($20). These 10 stages will require a minimum of 249 rounds to complete so make sure that you bring enough ammo to get the job done. The 10 stages will be setup in the same type of format that we used for the Mile High Showdown last year. We will setup 5 physical stages then shoot each one two different ways. I am considering the possibility of needing to break up the match into two different matches (One 5 Stage match, & One 10 Stage match) in the event that some shooters don’t get the notice that this match consists of 10 stages and fail to bring enough ammo or have to leave early. I will poll the shooters who can’t shoot all 10 stages during the shooters meeting to see if it is needed to break the match up into two separate matches. Until then, please get the word out to your friends that may be attending the match so they can be properly prepared. Bring lots of ammo and if you have to lend some to a fellow shooter to complete the match that might be a good contingency to consider.

Dawn Perez will be at the range in the morning selling her super yummy breakfast burritos so bring an extra $5 for some tasty goodness.

The Ben Lomond Gun Club installed an Electronic Front Gate and it will remain CLOSED at all times. Everyone entering and exiting the range must input the HPPS Match gate code (24646).

This may sound like a broken record but we yet again will be running this match very short handed and need a bunch of help setting up in the morning. Since the Mile High Showdown was “Suppose to” happen this weekend at Weld but got canceled last week we are scrambling to get our normal HPPS club match back on schedule with very limited resources. Many of the HPPS BOD members made alternate plans for this weekend and can’t help run this match. We only have 3 HPPS BOD members available to make this whole match happen so we will need a bunch of help from the shooters in the morning to get the stages setup.

For this match we are trying to pull together a charity donation for Kayley’s Korner which is an outreach program hosted by the Elizabeth United Methodist Church. Kayley’s Korner provides assistance to families in need during trying times while raising their young ones. We will be setting out a Donation Box (Cash or Check accepted) during registration and your donations would be greatly appreciated. HPPS will be donating all entry fee profits from our December match to the cause as well. Supporting a local charity like this one is a good way to give back to the community and also put the shooting sports in a good public light. We had a good group of shooters brave the chilly weather today to participate in the December HPPS match today. We had a lot of help in the morning setting up stages and it was much welcomed even if it was a little cold. Hammering nails into frozen dirt does wonders for warming you up. The results from the match have been posted on the USPSA website.

Even though we had a limited amount of shooters attend the match, the Kayley’s Korner charity fundraiser was a huge success!!! With donations from the shooters and HPPS pitching in we will be able to make a $300 donation to the Kayley’s Korner charity. I want to thank all of the shooters for helping make this a successful charity fundraiser event!!! We will be presenting this donation to the Kayley’s Korner charity early next week where it will go to good use for needy families during the holidays.

Hopefully the weather will once again work in our favor in January so we can do it all over again. See everyone next month!!!

I have been keeping an eye on the weather forecast for this Saturday and it just keeps getting worse. Currently the forecast is calling for a high of 31 degrees, 1-3 inches of snow, and 20mph winds. This weather is too extreme to safely host an outdoor match so we are canceling the match. Please spread the word about the match cancellation so we don't end up with some shooters driving all the way out there for nothing. This shouldn’t be a surprise given all of the Rain/Snow we have gotten the past couple of days, but the HPPS match on Saturday is CANCELED. There has been too much precipitation making the dirt road to the range and range its self a sloppy mud bog. Bummer. Range rule or just grumpy old men that don't like IPSC shooters?

Several years ago, another front range club had an issue with 3-Gun shooters using rifles on a pistol range. Till they were reminded that cowboy action shooters also shoot pistol caliber carbines on "pistol" ranges and the sky had not fallen yet. Suddenly it was ok.

Not allowing PCC at HPPS matches goes beyond "What I like". Here are my six primary reasons why HPPS is not going to support PCC......

First, I don't want to dumb down the stages to allow for safe PCC shooting angles and challenges. Not to mention my props getting shot to shit because they don't understand there several inches of offset between their sights and the bore.

Second, I don't want to deal with dumbing down the start positions to allow PCC to safely start the stage along with all of the pistol shooters. Creating a secondary start position for the PCC division will only cause confusion for the majority of the shooters. I have enough to deal with during the match and answering the same question about the start position 9867932417498 times is not something I am willing to sign up for freely.

Third, I don't want to put a rifle rack on every single berm so shooters can store their guns in a safe location that keeps them from fiddling with it while people are down range. Bagging and unbagging a PCC wastes time since most stages have a decent amount of movement and you would need to wait for a bag to be brought to the shooter after the stage run.

Forth, USPSA Pistol matches are PISTOL matches, not carbine matches. If people want to shoot their carbines then they can have fun with them in practice, 3 Gun matches or rifle matches.

Fifth, The bulk of the people that would shoot PCC would want to do it as a Second gun for the whole match. This effectively takes that person out of the squad rotation of helping with anything. They are too busy screwing around with their guns, gear, or stage plans to help the squad run the stage. This is a volunteer sport run by the shooters. Not a consumer sport where everything is catered to the few who want to abuse the situation.

Sixth, The majority of the RO's at USPSA pistol matches have zero clue in ROing a shooter wielding a carbine. We don't have dedicated RO's for the stages and the shooters RO themselves. How does a non-Carbine knowledgeable RO effectively RO a shooter with a carbine? Very few local Colorado Pistol shooters have the Multigun RO endorsement. I don't want to force my volunteer RO's into ROing something they are not qualified to effectively RO.

I also want to point out that HPPS is only 1 of 12 USPSA clubs along the Colorado Front Range. I am sure there will be other local USPSA clubs that are willing to support the PCC division. All I can tell you is that HPPS is not going to support it at this time.

Well, I have to say having been in matches with all of the above because we were running PCC (years ago) and your fears are all BS. You have the option now as PCC is a provisional division. As soon as it's a legitimate division you will have a few choices; run the division or lose HPPS's USPSA sanction. You can figure it out now or not... It's coming and it's about time really.

Bummer. I wrongly assumed it was a range rules issue.

I think there will be a learning curve with PCC.

1. People have been shooting pistols with offset scopes since the mid 90s.

2. Leave stage design as it is. Close up with a carbine is just as fun as it is with a pistol even though it is a tad bit slower. Pistols are easier to shoot fast up close. Easy start position fix is to have all PCC starts low ready or port arms.

3. Unbagging and bagging carbines will add a few seconds to their time for sure. It will be a learning curve for the shooters to manage their stuff.

4. I didn't know USPSA was a pistol only organization. Guess they need to change their name.

5. Pretty broad assumption. It has not even been a division for a month so there is no track record. Or you could just say no second guns.

6. Most ROs are gun guys and I bet a majority of them own an AR-15 of some flavor. A carbine is just like any other firearm. Don't walk off the line with a loaded gun. Don't break the 180. ect.

People have been shooting carbines on stages traditionally built around pistol stages for ages. The sky has not fallen yet.

I have had more non competitive and non USPSA shooters asking about PCC these past few months than ever before. Getting them off the couch and out using their second amendment rights sounds like a good plan to me. Getting people trigger time with a carbine in a close up setting will let people know if a carbine will work as a house gun or not for them.

In the end I don't see PCC taking over USPSA, it will be like L-10, Single Stack or Revo. Just a few dudes here and there.

I don't know about your last sentence Hoser. PCC has been running crazy at a few matches that have run it for a few years now, taking HOA at several "pistol" stage matches. The companies that are making PCCs can't keep up with demand. It is like some people have never heard of the PCCs until like a few months ago. Marlin Camp 9, Storms, the Old Oly Arms, etc. are like they never existed. :)

The vast majority will be pistol shooters sure, but I think there are a good number of people who will be enticed who 1. Do not like pistols, 2. Have physical issues which make pistol shooting not fun. 3. Get their butts kicked on pistol, 4. Some 3Gunners practicing, 5. A few USPSA regulars who want an occasional change of pace. At least that is what the information coming from clubs with a track record have found.

Please, Please, Please USPSA give me a reason to drop sanctioning. It would save us about $1500 a year in USPSA fees that we get zero in return for.
Then dump USPSA sanctioning... You don't need a reason. You clearly are not opened minded to change or what your customers may want. Dump USPSA sanction and go your own way.

We would get 3-5 shooters per monthly match at York, PA while I was there. I suspect it will be way more popular in some areas than others; trends of shooters and the local laws. It does have a ton of potential just like Carry Optic does.

If USPSA forces clubs to support PCC in pistol matches then it will be time to drop sanctioning or for me to step
down as MD. As it is defined today the allowance of the provisional PCC division is left to each club to decide. HPPS is deciding to NOT allow it.

If PCC is the next wave or level of practical shooting that is going to flood the ranges with new shooters then it shouldn't have any problem supporting its self in its own dedicated match. If it can't do that then there is no point in trying to cram it into a PISTOL match. It makes more sense to cram it into existing long gun or 3Gun matches where dealing with long guns is already established.

Charlie, you sound just like the guys who did not want Glocks, Red Dots and comps to "irreparably degrade" the principles of IPSC back in the 1990s, but they split IPSC into Limited and Open. Then the Revolver guys whined, and left and started ICORE, then the old guys got spanked and left and started IDPA.[dig]

I love it when people who don't even shoot my match whine about how I choose to run it. If the product HPPS produces does not suit your fancy the there are 12 other USPSA clubs all across the front range that might fit your needs.

My club I'm BOD at took a vote. We said no PCC. I was the only one in favor of it. After hearing the reasoning, it made sense.

In the end we decided to let the clubs that are die hard about it try it out. Fix all the kinks. Later on down the road, we can make a better vote on having it or not.

An indoor club so that alone adds factors we need to consider. Along with the fact that our customer base is not as seasoned as those outdoor clubs in the middle of nowhere receive.

I know this match notice is a little early in the week to send out but I wanted to give all of the shooters some extra time to prepare for our match. The HPPS team has decided to diverge from a "Normal" match this Saturday and instead have a Halloween Mega Match. The Halloween Mega Match will consist of five LARGE field courses with 40 - 50 rounds each and instead of a classifier we will have a Team Shooting Challenge that your whole squad gets to participate in. The Team Shooting Challenge will be shot in conjunction with the other stages but it will be treated as a separate match as its score can't be integrated into the normal match scores. The Team Shooting Challenge will be for squad bragging rights and I will e-mail out the results after the match.

The Entry Fee for the Halloween Mega Match is the same as always ($20) but you get to shoot 250+ rounds!!! I would advise bringing at least 350 rounds to the match so you have enough to complete all of the stages. You might want to bring some extra ammo just in case one of your buddies runs out before the match is over. Since we know there may be some shooters in the limited capacity divisions that don't have enough magazine pouches to support 40 - 50 round stages we have added the option of reloading off of barrels on the stages. Some stages require that you reload off of barrels and others offer the option of reloading off of the barrels. The weather is suppose to be in the upper 70's so its going to be a great day of shooting. Come out and have some fun trying something a little different.

Since we are currently experiencing Snow and Rain today and some precipitation is also predicted for tomorrow be prepared for potentially wet or muddy range conditions on Saturday. We have met the minimum quantity of classifiers needed for 2017 per USPSA sanctioning requirements so we are choosing to replace the classifier stage with one of our own standards type of stage or speed shoot / field course stage. The HPPS club will be hosting our monthly USPSA club match at the Ben Lomond Gun Club this coming Saturday. We are planning on setting up 6 challenging stages to shoot. I have uploaded the stages to the match listing in Practiscore. The weather forecast is looking to be 80 degrees and sunny so bring plenty of water and sun screen.

The Ben Lomond Gun Club has an Electronic Front Gate and it will remain CLOSED at all times. Everyone entering and exiting the range must input the HPPS Match gate code (24646).

We have now deployed online match registration and squading via Practiscore. The match registration link is listed below. The HPPS team has decided to require match payment ($20) during the registration process on Practiscore. We will issue $5 refunds via cash at the range during check in for ECO BOD members, and for competitors that help with stage setup. Full refunds can be requested up to the point of the defined “Close” of registration listed on Practiscore. After that deadline no refunds or future match credits will be offered. Basically put, if you sign up and pay then decide the morning of the match to not attend you will NOT get a refund or future match credit.

The BLGC Range and HPPS Club will NOT have any special COVID-19 Restrictions for this match. The HPPS matches will proceed as if COVID-19 doesn't exist. Practical Shooting Matches are an adult "Game" and I will leave it up to each competitor to determine if attending the match is too risky or not. Obviously, if you are sick, don't attend. If you feel that you need to use PPE during the match, go for it. We will not be providing any PPE or deploying Social Distancing restrictions in an attempt to minimize your risk. If you feel that this is too risky, then don't attend.

If you can come out early and help setup, your help would be much appreciated. You even get a $5 discount for helping out with setup in the morning.
