View Full Version : first bad gunbroker experience
Back in December I purchased this: https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/800602462
That link is actually a re-listing of the auction I won by using the buy it now button. Here is a summary of the transaction. Keep in mind the listing does say there is a two week lead time to ship because these are custom built.
12.3 Payment via paypal
12.3 First excuse - sick
12.19 Ask for status update
12.19 Christmas rush - my order is next up
1.10 Ask for status update
1.10 Any day now - it's getting painted
1.27 Sorry things were busy - will ship this week
2.5 Did it ship last week, haven't seen it?
2.5 Next week it'll ship - fixing a problem
2.18 What's my status?
2.18 It's not done - get off my ass - you want a refund or what
2.18 Yes please
2.25 Refund money finally shows up in my paypal account
This is just a summary, there was a whole lot more back and forth. The excuses for not shipping ranged from being sick to there was bad weather. I'm happy that I eventually got my money back. I really don't understand how the seller has such good feedback, after googling more about him.
I found all kinds of forum posts about this guy ripping people off. Seeing as I actually didn't really get ripped off I'm not going to post more information about him at this point.
This brings me to two questions. Anyone know where I can buy a mount like this? I've searched around and can't find anything that looks as good.
Then I wonder, is it possible to fake gunbroker feedback? I've read through what seems to be tons of good feedback for this guy but most of it looks like the exact same feedback. It seems like it was generated by a script or something. The bad feedback I've seen seems to mirror my experience.
Okay three questions. Guy wrote me and said that after it's actually done he'll sell it to me for $100 off. I shouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole right?

"After it's done"? So it's not done now even though he told you it was getting painted on 01/10/19 and that it was shipping on 01/27/19?
He's lied to you multiple times already and you're wondering if he's telling the truth now?
Pretty sure you already know the answer. ;)

Not without C.O.D. shipping

This. Have the jack wagon ship it to you before he gets paid. A dollar says he won?t.
What you experienced seems to be a common event when people get paid in advance for stuff. Once they are paid there is zero motivation to get the job done. If I was in your position and still wanted the product I would do what others have suggested. Tell the lazy ass to ship it COD or send the product with a Net 30 invoice to pay after you have the stuff in hand. At least that way if he goes down the delaying deadbeat path again you are not out any money.

As someone who has done a tremendous amount of business on the internet (selling on online auction sites, gunbroker included), I can sympathize with reasonable shipping delays. In reality though, these delays are few and far between. Laziness is more likely the key, as Cha-Lee mentioned.
I know that I had to change an expectation that was being set with my ads, as while I could get a package or 3 out each day, when I had dozens of orders to deal with after working a full time job, it didn't happen as fast as I would like.
Unless you can get the guy to do a N30 invoice (unlikely, that's a bad method of doing business on his part) or have him ship COD, I would stay away.

At one time GunBroker had an escrow service. Maybe they still do. That might work, too, if you absolutely have to have this item and can't get it elsewhere.
And, personally, I wouldn't feel bad about letting everyone know what a douche this guy is. You might not have really been ripped off by the guy, but the next buyer might.
I had a bad one this month too. Seller hasn't responded for 11 days on a 38/44 Heavy Duty in great shape I won. Seems they've done this before, thankfully no payment had been sent yet, as they wouldn't answer emails or pick up the phone so I could pay, but it still sucks. Also had a seller back out of an agreed upon deal on a choice Salsa Deadwood X9 bike, one I've been wanting for ages. Been a shitty month for buying, but thankfully all the deals I've made with people on this forum this year have gone great.
If anyone can show me where to get a similar product I'd be a pig in shit.

It *is* a pretty damn sweet mount system.

If you read all the feedback it'll start to look dubious. I'd want that adaptor you posted if it had brass collection too. Good looking out though.

His first page is all A+. I would expect him to get trashed.
Are you on any 1919 forums? There's 1919a4.com. I bet some of the folks know him and might know where else you can get one.

I am on that forum, haven't reached out on there quite yet.

Just throw some want ads out there. Craigs and the like. Just be careful on the wording.

IM top posters who aren't in CA. ;)
Almost 6 months after my initial gunbroker purchase the seller randomly sends me a tracking number and says my mount has shipped. He shipped it for $150 less than the initial price and it just showed up today. It's pretty nice now that I've got this thing in hand. I'm glad to have this finally but the seller was/is a real pain to deal with.

A few members here might now see why I've been scooping up every 30 cal ammo can I could get my hands on from them.
I haven't dealt with the guy but have one of his mounts. He does excellent work and has a good rep on the 1919 forum. I know he was going through some personal stuff which may still be going on.
Anyway glad you got your mount. I will try and post up a pic of the tripod I built off of his design. Nothing better then shooting a 1919a4 while standing or sitting in the lawn chair.

The opinion of him on the 1919 forum was actually less than stellar (pretty sure he's banned) when I posted there looking for one of these. In the end I'd say he's honest but eccentric and makes a great product.
Post those pics, I'd like to see what you built.
Great news and an even better update!!!!

I agree! too bad the gb auction is so old now that I can't leave feedback one way or the other

It breaks down to fit in a gear bag with rollers for easy transport.
What does the t&e hook up to? Also I want one.

That was the only pic I had of the whole tripod. Above is the finished product of the pintle/t&e setup.
I maybe able to build another after I finish up a couple of other projects.

That looks pretty cool, it'd take me a very long time to make something like that.

That's 100% not your fault!
