View Full Version : Opportunity for Bank Vault Door

I have an opportunity to get an older bank vault door for free (ETA: This was probably installed when the bank was built in the late 60's). This includes the door frame, mounting hardware, etc.

The catch is I have to uninstall it, haul it up out of the basement of the bank, haul it away and then store it until I have my next home built (some day...) with a vault room - and I have to do it very soon.

The logistics of this have me thinking I need to pass on this opportunity, but dammmmn; I'll never get another opportunity like this.

So, does anyone have ideas on how I can overcome these obstacles?

Put that on the front door and people will be sure to break in through your windows. [LOL]

It would cut down on solicitation though. Cut a small hinged gunport in it and buy a super-sized fake prosthetic eye to stick in it. They'll never come back.

Dude, all you'd need is a TACLANE or two and you could have a work from home SCIF!

Indeed.

After getting some information from Opie I think I'm going to let this opportunity pass.

Once I get into another house I'll build a SCIF level secure room and put a SCIF door on it - it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Do you have any pics? Info like weight, etc? I'm still curious.

No, I didn't think to get pics of it and actually was busy with other things so I barely even got more than a glance at it.

I'm actually in a similar position, but I'd have to haul mine out of a basement in Nebraska, drive it all the way out here and then store it until I could use it. I ended up passing, but still question my decision. They're still trying to find someone to take it I think at this point, because it's such a huge hassle.
