View Full Version : Things you didn't realize you needed until you did?
A couple weekends ago I was fishing Cheeseman Canyon and my phone for whatever reason rebooted. I had it in airplane mode to save on the battery as well as there is no cell signal anywhere in the area. When the phone rebooted it reverted to 5:00 pm even though it was only somewhere around 11:00 am. I never ran in to this or even thought about it before. I have extra battery backup with me when I hunt but didn't realize the phone would not come up with the correct time on a reboot.
Guess I need to invest in a simple wrist watch.
What other unthought of issues has anyone experienced when out in the field?

Its always something isnt it?
I keep a stash of assorted zip ties in my vehicles, cases & my pack because sometimes that unexpected something needs one.
Hope that's what you meant.
High lift wheel hook and JB weld. Zip ties are a good one as well.

Something or someone?
Do you also keep duct tape, some large trash bags, and a shovel? You know.... just in case.

Don't be silly, electrical tape is more useful.

Zip ties are great for putting the carcass tag on in the field. Quick and easy. Plus you can repair things with them.
Paracord and duck tape also go great in the pack. Unlimited uses out in the field.

I always wore a watch when in the outdoors. Much easier than pulling out the phone. Now I wear one all the time. I know most people have got rid of them and just use their cell phones - not me
We used duct tape as a trailer hub cover to keep the grease in after the whole wheel came off at 70 mph and the hub cover was lost.

The silver / real Duct tape is also good for oil pan leak fixes. As well as patching a motorcycle primary cover after sliding around a turn, to avoid a small herd of deer. At sunrise30 after a good night of drinking coming down the new mexico hills.

Why not use lighter fluid and a match like everyone else?[flamethrower]
I learned the hard way to always carry a coat and pants when traveling Vail Pass. Got stuck in a white out snow storm, in July, once.
This hooks onto the rim for lifting the vehicle when you have a lack of jack points elsewhere.
We got suck in snow going over the divide on Sunday and everyone was wearing shorts because it was 90 degrees in the desert when we left.

Doesn't everyone?
Small magnifying glass or lens.
I carry a lens from a broken set of binoculars - about the size of 4 stacked quarters.
Eyes are getting older and print is getting smaller.

Silver sharpies!
What are the silver ones good for? The black ones work well for drawing the collar on the doves to make them into Euros [Sarcasm2]
Just for writing on anything dark colored. I've seen people mark their magazines with them. I bought a few but just tried them out and they are my new favorite.
If I don?t have a paint marker handy a silver sharpie is the next best thing.
