I think I saw one today. He was silhouetted on the top of the ridge directly across the road from our house...probably 500 yards or so. Coincidentally (not), cattle with a few calves were grazing in the same area and this guy was just sitting up there looking in their direction.
Way too big for a coyote. Very tall, skinny legs, big, bushy tail, pointed snout. I'm about 90% sure it was a wolf. Mrs BG thinks so, too. We were able to get a pretty good look at him through the 15x binos. Pretty cool.
I'll need to keep the camera handy from now on.

Very cool !!! Wish you'd been able to get a pic.
Nifty. Always keep the camera handy. You may see it again.
I've never seen one in the lower 48 but had one come within 15 feet of me in the backcountry of Katmai, AK. Cool experience. It wasn't nearly as scary as the brown bears there that are the size of large cattle.

I'm certain now it was a wolf. Just saw a couple of guys on ATVs with rifles cruising around up there in the pasture where the calves are. Someone else must've see it, too.
Camera is now on alert.

My dad came face-to-face with one when we were camped in an RV near Valdez, AK. This was 6 months after the '89 oil spill, and the workers who stayed in the campground left real early, and the tourists usually slept in, usually giving Wolfie good roaming at roughly 6 to 7 am. My Dad got up to find a tree (he hated the indoor head) and he and the wolf rounded the RV at the same time- "biggest dog I have ever seen..." We had heard them howling the night before on the cliffs above the campground.
I’ve come pretty close to a few near Idaho City. Definitely adds a new dimension to walking in the dark. Close enough to hear them panting as they ran through the timber. I could see their body’s , but it was so thick I never got the “there it is” pause or look back.
I'm looking forward to your pictures!
