I recently moved and realized that the address on my driver's license is incorrect. I'm going to pick up an order from an FFL tonight and was wondering what other documents I could bring to satisfy my proof of residency.

Thanks in advance

Not that I condone such actions but if you fill out the 4473 with the address on your license it should be a non issue.

This occurred to me as well. I believe you have 30 days to update with the state.

Regardless you need to stop into a DMV & get a change of addy sticker soon.

The DMV advises you to sticker the change on your DL with a mailing label now. They're classy like that.

I don't have anything government issued so I'll probably go the fishing license route.

Not good enough for FFLs, but this seems like a non issue to me

CCW has always worked for me.

This might work, but seems like a real bad idea to me.

So you?re guessing he has changed the address on his carry permit but not on his drivers license?

I think the point is that changing the address on a driver”s license doesn’t entail any actual change to your physical driver’s license. They tell you to put a sticker with your new address on the back of your license. Very unofficial and I haven’t found any FFL who will accept it.

I actually had the Loveland Kinkos/Fedex refuse to ship a package because my drivers license address didn’t match my actual home address. I ended up using my concealed carry permit because the sheriff actually issued a new card when I changed my address.

Yeah, I changed my address with the DMV, they said to sharpie the new address on the back, no new card

Go to the DMV website and change your address with them. Takes about 10 minutes and they will send you an email confirming you made a change. Write the new address on the back of your driver's license. As someone already stated, if your vehicle registration has the correct address that will work. Works that way at Cabela's and most ffls. If you get a website that wants a credit card number, you got the wrong site. There is no charge for making the change.

DL sticker won't work because it's not "issued by the state". However, the correct address info/documents they won't accept, including your word, are accepted by any retailer (at least in my experience) for something like an extra rod license. So you can't say, "this is my correct address" to the FFL, but you can then say that to the gum snapping chick at the Sportsman's Warehouse licensing counter and then all is well. Makes no sense.

Similar and equally stupid:

I have DV plates on one vehicle. Recently got a different vehicle and went to the DMV to get it registered. I asked if I could pay the extra to get DV plates on that vehicle as well (free parking/entrance at state parks, which is handy for the Cheyenne Mountain State Park Archery range). Sure. Just need the DD214 and VA letter. But... every year they send me a new registration for the vehicle I already have the DV plates for, without those documents, and I showed them when I got the plates originally. Nope. Every. Single. Time. you want to get DV plates for a different vehicle you have to show those documents. But yet they just renew the current ones for the original vehicle no questions asked. Sense level: government.

Not sure of OP's time frame, in Larimer county if you don't notify the sheriff and go get a new ccw printed out in 30 days of moving you will loose your ccw permit.

I've changed my address with all proper parties, WCSO included, within 30 days of moving. Weld County doesn't reissue a permit and my address isn't printed on it.

Dealer wasn't concerned about it and I dropped my current address on the form.

I never have a problem with the DV plates. I just say I want a DV plate like the other one I have. They have the computer right in front of them, they can check and see I already have one. It costs $50 extra tho'...half my street has DV tags in the driveway. Sorry for the derail.

One would think that would be the case, but the woman at the Carson DMV specifically said I have to show the DD214 and VA letter each time, regardless of having a set already.

My "hobby job"* is working at the East location of one of the ranges in town (you guess :)). I'm a relative newcomer to being on the other side of the counter when it comes to transfers and 4473s, but there's the real threat of jail time on when we do a firearm sale.

Here are a couple things that will cause me to stop a sale in its tracks and inform the other employees so they don't do the sale either:

Oh, yhea, I have a new address but just use the one on the DL.
Hey Frank, I can get this for you at a member price and you can pay me back (even for a family member).

Don't ask me to unhear something you said. I don't care if you go to ClubFed for lying on the 4473, but don't ask me to risk @$$ for you.

If you're going to lie about your current address or try and pull off a straw purchase, don't say ANYTHING in front of me or give me the lightest hint that you're pulling that $#!+ or I won't do the sale.

I want to be able to stand up in court and honestly say "I had no idea that was what they were doing."

O2

* I hate calling it a hobby job because I take it very seriously. That nomenclarure makes it sound as if I take it lightly. Only work one day a week, every Sunday. Gives me money for components!
