View Full Version : I hope this isn't the beginning of the end of Whataburger...
Whataburger sells majority ownership stake to Chicago investment firm (https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/whataburger-sells-majority-ownership-stake-to-chicago-investment-firm/ss-AACTLfi)
Whataburger's founders, the Dobson family, will have a minority ownership position in the company. President and CEO Preston Atkinson and board chairman Tom Dobson will keep their seats on the board, but will retire from daily operations.
It is the beginning of the end
Hopefully they can grow the chain a bit more....Amarillo is a long drive for a Whataburger

Once they become too corporate there's a good chance they'll suck ... but there's a ton of good burger chains out there these days (some would say we live in a golden age of burger chains).

They got them here and I'm not impressed. Same as every fast food joint.
The best burger in the entire world is still just a hamburger.

Whataburger is the best. Thank God I’ll be in Texas in a few weeks.

Never had a whataburger. Do their milkshakes also come malted?
I remember being able to get a good chocolate shake the size of a Big Gulp. [not-worthy]
I haven't had a Whataburger in about 5 years. I like that they're not drowned in mayo. Whataburger with extra mustard and onion rings. Good stuff.
I tried Whataburgers 2-3 times when I was working in TX, always found them too dry for my liking. Are they always that way?
Smashburger went downhill almost overnight after they went corporate. Used to be a favorite, now as sucky as all the rest. Never tried Whataburger and unlikely to now.

I'm at the point that the best hamburger is the one I make myself !!!!
I heard they are going to switch to "BeyondMeat" and rename it "WhatIsABurger?"

Whataburger is the Texas equivalent to Colorado and Taco Bell. Not great when sober but awesome after leaving the bar. The milkshakes are a welcome answer to the Texas 90 degree heat at midnight!
I got a double double on Sunday. Tasted like Carls Jr, in my opinion.

Ahhh. The "Slopper". Smothered in a bowl of green chili. That's going on the menu soon...

I haven't been to a Whataburger in decades. My first job was at a Whataburger in Houston. Closest one to me now is about 1200 miles. Probably not worth the drive.
Closest thing to Whataburger in the metro area is Jim's Burger Haven in Arvada. Haven't been there in probably 20 years, either, so no idea if it's the same as I remember it. Lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions and cheese with mustard on a big 6" toasted bun. Just like Whataburger if I remember correctly. I prefer to sub japs for pickles now, though.

Yeah, when they first started to open they were great, but I don't even bother to go there anymore.

Totally agree. The cheeseburgers my wife turns out are the best I've had in 7 decades.

Still a great burger joint in my opinion. If I do go out for a burger its usually Jim's.

Ah. So that's what happened. It seemed like their quality and menu choice took a precipitous nosedive about 8-10 months back.

That's good to know that hasn't changed.
