I grew up in an era when if a gun was "flat" it was a Colt, if "round" a S&W. Obviously there are many other 1911s today and I've owned/own a few. I wanted something more traditional in my next 5" .45acp though with the generally agreed upon improvements-vertical serrations (rear only), good sights, good trigger and well fit. I know Colt's have had an iffy reputation lately but I came across a very good deal on this new CGP from a dealer friend out of state. He stated he hadn't seen a Colt this well put together in a very long time (including the Wiley Clapp version). At the price I couldn't say no. I'm normally not a fan of billboards on my guns but this is as subtle as the Thunder Ranch from Baer and I can't see them when I shoot so no biggie.

If I wouldn't have found this I was going to get a Dan Wesson A2 but for me there's a nostalgia about having a Colt (thankfully a well made one lol).

Well thanks to the good guys at Ark it came in this week and I picked it up yesterday. The gun comes with thin grips, which I don't like on a 1911, swapped for some very nice coco bolo from Fusion, added an EGW checkered mainspring housing and plain recoil plug. Got to the range last night and I'm thrilled with it. The target photo is the first mag at 10 yards. I normally don't care for all black sights but they work for me on this pistol (all my others have a tritium dot with orange ring on the front, plain black rear). This pistol is fit almost as tight as my Baers though it can be field stripped much more easily. No rattles of any kind, excellent fit of the barrel/bushing/slide and I really like the short trigger which is nice and crisp with very little slack and a great reset.

200 flawless rounds of American Eagle 230gr fmj through it last night. Next session will make use of the HST 230gr standard velocity. Here are a couple pics from last night. The holster is the Avenger by Galco fyi.

Very cool! Like the simple black finish.

Thanks Skip. Yeah, it has a very nice and even matte finish. The way my friend described it, the pic he sent and the price he gave me there was no way I wasn't going to grab it.

Fit and finish looks like a high-end gun.

On the entry level Colts, it looks like three different finishes were applied. They polish the flats but not the dust cover. Different polish on the frame. And, of course, the plastic MSH. But they are still good shooters when you replace the factory mags!

Had Novak replace the plain black sight with their orange ring around a tritium dot. Works really well for me. Received the slide back from Novak exactly 7 days from when they received it, which included a weekend. Great company.

I'm glad yours works, I had a stainless version of that same pistol that was a complete lemon. Went back to Colt twice, to the local gunsmith twice, still wouldn't make it through two mags without a stoppage. Probably why it was for sale, used, in the local gun shop to begin with :(

There have been a few different versions-Colt and Gunsite originally offered them at the same time a number of years ago (around 2005/06 if I remember right). Colt stopped but the Gunsmithy continued. The latest ones like I have were sourced through Davidson's-it's slightly different than the one from Gunsite; no forward slide serrations, black sights, rear vertical serrations. I'm still impressed with how it works and how tight it is.

Larry Vickers recently did a short video of "The Drill"-10 shots, 10 rounds, 10 seconds or less all from the low ready. If the pistol holds less than 10 rounds start with it holstered. I tried it this past weekend. Took me 4 tries before I stopped dropping shots outside the center (add 1 second for each one to your total time). I averaged 8 seconds each run. Really like this one. Using a holster from Ritchie, styled after the late Lou Alessi's DOJ model.
