View Full Version : Can we get an actual ?training? or ?shooting? section?

I?d like to post here more, and every time I come here to do so I run into the same problem.
I shoot a lot. Sometimes competitively, but MOSTLY as defensive training for EDC.
99% of what I want to discuss is about TRAINING or SHOOTING. Much of it is goal or standards related.
It?s odd to me that we are a gun community that talks so little about shooting or training that it doesn?t even have a proper post area...
We have a ?training? page, but it is locked down to approved trainers (only had to mention that I had classes to get a ban warning) and posts about CLASSES coming.
Having a CLASSES section is valuable, but it still leaves me without a home.
It would be nice to have that section freed up, or to have a ?Classes? sub under a broader and more inclusive ?Training? area.
Anyone here want to actually discuss drills and progress they?ve made? Anyone want to actually talk about becoming better shooters and support each other in doing so?

I realize that I can take these discussions over to Pistol-Training forum... but I have very little chance of getting on the range with any of those guys, and I have already met and shot with a fair amount of y?all. It seems like we have lots of very niche discussion areas specific to guns as mechanical objects, but less on how to approach getting better with them outside of recommending an instructor- and if all of our training is only at classes... we suck

I've been following rustycrusty's Instagram account and he shoots A LOT. I'm also the shooter I am today, or rather the shooter I was at my peak, partially from shooting with him. He does more drilling than anyone I know and has valid things to talk about.
? As far as I inow anyone can start a thread in the training section, I’ve done it before..
Unless I guess if you are trying to sell a service, in that case there might be a vendor thing I don’t know about.
I think the problem is that once you enter the realm of running a class, you are no longer a person who does a lot of shooting and wants to talk about it, but an entity that only exists to make money. So as a result we end up with less talk about shooting, but plenty of talk about everything else.

It?s clear what is to be posted there ?FIREARMS TRAINING COURSES?. Not firearms training discussion.
The result has created a pretty clear vacuum. Posts in there are few and far between. It?s a dead section.
It?s been more than 3m since anything was posted in there that wasn?t just a notice of an upcoming class. I get it- that?s what THAT is intended for... but where is the section to talk about training related topics? Best practices? Shooting goals/approach/improvement? Empty.
These topics are briefly discussed in tangential fashion in threads all over, but we don?t have a place to come right at the real issues.
Example:
dude asking which gun mounted light to use. He?s really asking how he should use a weapon mounted light, and what light would be ideal for that task. It?s a training question. Everyone who actually knows things in that thread talks about it being a training question.
There is no training section to support a discussion of the issue.
I?m asking for a new section. I?m asking for ^that section to be created so I can talk about things I?m interested in.
I have never posted anything here to advertise, but anything I talk about that is shooting related is going to be on some subject matter that I have covered in classes. That Venn-diagram is a single circle.
So I get kicked out of the sub that I would post in most... because I do it professionally... So please give us a section where we CAN talk about it and I will continue to stay out of the training section.
I get why I can?t go in thee and post. When a firearms instructor talks about how to use firearms, for free... it?s an advertisement. - because the policy is open interpretation and because the first post that mods removed from me had me scratching my head as to how it could be interpreted as an advertisement, it keeps me from posting on the stuff I?m interested in.

Feel free to discuss anything training related, from favorite drills to favorite Instructors in the training area.

I would love to see something similar. If anyone knows of a training course coming up put on by a reputable company I would like to see it posted. I have been to couple that were put on by a company up in northern Colorado and was very happy with them. If people have gone to a class it would be nice to see what they had to say about it. If you do an internet search it seems that everyone is an expert and each class teaches the latest and greatest.
The No Fail pistol and rifle classes posted right now are as real and reputable a class as there is.
That said I would love to see more training discussion. Years ago I tried to start a thread listing different drills and times. There were no responses and the thread was deleted. I say let's do it again.

I have no issues with the classes posted there. Generally good stuff
I want that discussion and drive thread.
I just posted my new quest over there.
Glad I?m not alone in my desire to see more of this stuff. Hope this kicks off a new ?thing?
