View Full Version : Farking thieves!
My day is full of wonderful errands and a dentist appointment, stopped first thing this morning to COSTCO. Parked facing the building, got out clicked my keyfob, Jeep GC beeped went in side. Came out and went to load the goods in the back of the Jeep and noticed my lift gate was not down all the way.
Opened it up and my little storage bin I use to keep some basic tools, oil and recovery gear for the winch was missing. DANGNABIT!
I pondered how the heck, wait what!!!?!? Clicked the keyfob and the doors unlocked and the Jeep went beep?? Wait the alarm is not triggered if the lift gate is opened!!!?? What kind of bullshit is that?? Upon closer look it appears a flat tool was stuck in the little window and pried it open then opened the little cover for manual lift gate lock, the cover was laying there in the back.
NO witnesses, the store manager said they have camera's but not sure if it picked up my jeep. Will "call me later" if something shows up when they review it. Police were like go on line and report, "You have full coverage?" I was asked, yes but that is not the point.
Not a lot of valuables, the winch remote is going to cost me. The most expensive things is the Anderson Lower I had for sale was I was going to meet the person this afternoon was in the bin, I put it in there as to I wouldn't forget. Not a full firearm but a lower non the less.
ugh................. I hate low lifes. [fyou]
That's a bummer. Don't count on the footage. It usually doesn't have great resolution, and the companies are generally tight fisted about letting that info out.
Not a full firearm but a lower non the less.
Still a "firearm", so maybe law enforcement might pay more attention?

Um, or ATF maybe?
Sorry. I hate thieves.
I would hope I'm aware enough to recognize when someone is breaking into a car in broad daylight in a parking lot.
The "we'll call you" thing it BS. They probably want to get the ok to release it but a crime has been committed. Had you called LE I wonder if the story would have to comply more quickly?

Upgrade to a wireless remote for the winch.

Maybe I am just paying attention more, but there seems to be an real increase in "daylight" theft, whether it's from your vehicle, home or property. Normally, I would have said your vehicle would be good to go at Costco, as there is pretty always a constant stream of people in and out.

Crime has picked up in Pueblo West, especially auto burglary. It is so bad Walmart has started closing midnight to 6 AM.

A lower is a firearm in the eyes of the law, doesnt matter if it is complete or not, you should make a report to the atf.

Sorry to hear that, Skully.
Shitbags that steal and rob stuff don't have any business breathing air in the first place. Pisses me off, man.

Yep............
Already called.
The person got a bonus when they thought they got nice tools and found out they didn't but got that, so they would have to sell it to get caught or finish building it and use in a crime.
I called around to some pawn shops and gave them the info as well.
This happened to me in 2010 when they broke into my Jeep at work. The Denver police was the same, it is about the value, and if they were caught ext. I had to fill out a report online with all the items taken and value. Never heard a word.
I am not out a lot of $$$ at the winch remote is 45 new and the lower and parts, but it is the principle of the thing.

Thought they were doing this so they could kick people out of the lot that were camping out?

Sorry to hear about this OP, always sucks no matter what or how much was taken
I just got a strange call from COSTCO.
A customer turned in a plastic container they found on the grass area under a tree behind a bush. It is black with a yellow lid which is what caught their attention. The customer thought it might be from one of the construction workers that is in the area . I am rushing down there to see.

Hopefully it has a few things in it that they figured they couldn't use
SO it is my bin.
My little tool box with some basic tools and a 32" machete is missing.
However what was still in the bin is all my recovery gear..............and the lower. I had in a bubble mailer and had wrapped it in an rag I use to check oil.
My theory is the bin is actually Heavy with all the stuff in it, it was someone nearby, but afraid to get caught opened it and just grabbed things that looked like valuables.
Dumped it behind some plants and booked it.
I am feeling really lucky right now.

Glad to hear you were able to get something back
Must be a Jeep thing. Seems like every time I hear about a vehicle that was burglarized it?s always a Jeep.
Which COSTCO?

There are a lot of them and they tend to contain cool stuff.

I predict somebody will probably invest in a good auto alarm now. I probably should buy a few too...

Do you have to pass a NICS/CBI check to legally take your lower back?
Ugh no? no one knew there was a lower in my bin............................
...........but it just struck me as I am typing that you may be shooting off some sarcasm here. [Coffee]

Which COSTCO?
The topless kind are easy to steal stuff out of which when I had one I had a TUFFY box, but this is a Grand Cherokee, like any other car.
It was the Thornton COSTCO up in the boonies. Which is why it was probably easier as there is nothing around there at the moment. Except for right now a lot of construction workers.

It already has an alarm, pretty loud too. I think there is some thing wrong with the sensor in the lift gate. (This model had some notorious electrical issues) I was only able to make the alarm go off once out of five times by leaving the liftgate window open, clicking the keyfob to set the alarm, then reaching in and manually unlocking the lift gate and opening it. I will have to look into that.
Well that's pretty good news. Glad to hear it. Sorry you had to deal with any of that stuff at all though.

Based on the current political climate in CO. I'd be surprised if he wasn't charged for improper gun storage.

Probably about the best outcome you could've really hoped for. Especially getting the lower back and your winch remote. You must be living right!

We should ask Rhonda. She has all the answers.

Need to make sure to call whatever agency you reported the theft of the lower to and declare it "Recovered".
Also I would not attempt to sell it for quite a while.

I wouldn't provide any more details either unless pressed.
Like the fact that someone else had possession of it.
In fact, I'd ask the mods to delete this whole damn thread.
Lord, I think I need some more tinfoil, used up my last roll. LOL

Ha. First I was thinking there?s topless COSTCOs? Sweet.
But you meant Jeeps.

Well, this is kind of happy ending!
Sorry about the tools.
I hope the dirtbag cuts himself with your machete and dies of gangrene...[Rant1]
