Just heard this on the news.

People are being instructed to stay in their homes. Roads are being barricaded. Apparently it's near the Trail Inn motel and a gas station. Details are sketchy.

ETA: Cheyenne Wells residents receive CodeRED alert, urged to stay indoors (https://kdvr.com/2019/08/07/cheyenne-wells-residents-receive-code-red-alert-urged-to-stay-indoors/)

CHEYENNE WELLS, Colo. — Some residents in Cheyenne Wells received a CodeRED Wednesday morning.

According to the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office people nearby are advised to stay indoors until further notice. It’s unclear what triggered the code red.

Information obtained by FOX31 from a clerk at a nearby Kwik Korner gas station told us that Highway 40 is blocked by law enforcement agencies, including Kit Carson, Eads, Powers and Cheyenne.

Law enforcement agencies across the country use the CodeRED emergency notification system to locate dangerous suspects.

The CodeRED system aims to keep citizens informed and encourages them to get involved in protecting their communities and neighbors.

Cheyenne Wells is roughly 180 miles from Denver.

This story is developing and we will continue to update it as we gather more information.

Is "active shooter" how it was reported on the radio? I have not seen that in print.

Two guys causing trouble. One in custody, and the other has barricaded himself up in his own house.

That's according to the guy at the Trails Inn motel that I just got off the phone with. He said it started there and moved through town. I'm not sure if he means that the trouble started there, or that the police staged there. I assume the later because he said there are still something like 25-30 emergency vehicles across the street.

Trail Inn, Cheyenne Wells.
That's where a lot of the shooters participating in the Machine Gun Shoots would stay.
My memories are of hot and windy in the summer.
I hope it gets resolved swiftly and safely.

That's where everyone stays, because it's the only place. Well, there might be a second. They say that they have WiFi, but it doesn't work, FYI

I don't recall the town being very big.

CHEYENNE WELLS, Colo. — A man is in custody following a barricade situation in Cheyenne Wells in southeast Colorado.

The man was barricaded inside a home for several hours on Wednesday after shots were fired, the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office said.

Yes sir, I remember that experience. Many of the participants in the Shoots camped out at the Range.
I was shooting a lot and would be covered with residue and grease.
I needed a shower!
As I recall, only 1 or 2 TV stations and they were blurry, but I was out of the wind and had a shower and a bed.

The in wall A/C unit is loud enough to drown out the construction workers jamming out to music on their front porch.

When someone would be a little negative about the weather or conditions, Bob McBride, who ran the Shoots, would comment:
"Well, the soldiers didn't have it any better during the Battle of the Bulge."

The wind blowing all the American Flags above the canopies at sunrise sure made you think: Only In America!

Back on topic, I bet that field where we would shoot is now planted with Hemp and all the tokers are mistakin' it for whacky tabaccy.
That's what got the folks in Cheyenne Wells all astir and they went a little crazy.

[facepalm]

To the media, every event is an active shooter until disappointingly proven otherwise.

Well, it must have been a slow week without a bunch of shark attacks during Shark Week, so this is what we get.

Anybody remember several years ago the reporting on child abductions that made it seem like there was an epidemic?

Late time I was down there (last month) there were a ton of highway patrol cruising around. One flipped a U-turn in the highway and ran up hard behind me, but then he just turned around again after checking my plates.

I was there this weekend visiting, and all back to normal. The standoff house is standing and at least some of the people were home
