View Full Version : 9mm MAGPUL glock mags and AR9
So I finally took out my AR pistol on its maiden shooting voyage.
Freaking blast to shoot!
Got 100 rounds out the exit hole (mag issue didnt hinder too much of the fun) when I ran into a bolt issue, the firing pin stuck down, click no BOOM. That though is taken care of for now. BTW Foxtrot Mike Products is awesome, sent them an email on Friday they responded that evening with "we will send you a new small parts kit to see if that fixes it."
My main issue is my OE 15rnd Glock mags ran perfectly, not a prob, my MAGPUL 27rnd mags worked 26rnds into the 27, but the last round would always ram against the base of the barrel and not load up. I tried 3 different MAGPUL 27rnd mags with different combos of round counts (15, 3, 5, 10 as an example) just to go through any variables and each time, the very last round would fail to load. I am suspecting it has something to do with the follower and/or spring tension not pushing the last round up.
Anyone run into this situation, and how did you fix it?

I'm my option magpul glock mags suck. There is no metal feed lips in them. Try the KCI 15 rounders. I have had good luck with my KCI mags.

.....but that defeats the purpose of 27 round mags. :)
The mags work great 26 rounds in, it is "always the last round in the mag" that fails to feed properly and find it annoying, why I am thinking the last round there is not enough push upwards and fails to load properly. I could load the a dummy round first so it is the last round out of the mag, but that is silly sounding.
Is there some misalignment of the baseplate?

You may want to try a different buffer weigth. KAK has a buffer that has weights so it can be adjusted. I think mine is at 9.8oz.
Would something like that aftermarket TACCOM feed ramp fix this issue?

No, the MAGPULS are pretty solid and tried all of my 27 rounders and did the "exact" same thing. Last round in the mag failed to load. The issue doesn't come up with my OE Glock 15 rounders.

Going back up to my reply to Irving's comment, this issue is only present on the MAGPUL's, the OE glock mags work fine. Why I am thinking it is the spring tension or the follower design.
Would something like that aftermarket TACCOM feed ramp fix this issue?

Hmmm? possibly I don't think it would hinder the operation of the OE mags, but it is silly thinking about an add on just of the last round in a MAGPUL 27 rounder to load properly.
I was using my stock of 115 gr JHP, though they ran perfect each time except for being the last round in the MAGPUL Mag, I may try some FMJ and see if it has the same issue.

IMO it's the only way to go when using anything but factory 33rd glock mags. 1st thing is run them, then replace as necessary. The KCI & other korean 33 rd units. When you pull the spring and compare to factory. There';s at least 4-6 coils difference.
The feed ramp and buffer weight have nothing to do with mag not feeding last round. Especially when the other 26 cycle fine.

Is your lower the Last round bolt hold open type? I had the exact same issue in a spikes like that. I fixed it by selling it. The LRBHO on some of the lowers are kind of janky at best.

Why not. BUT make sure if you do it's from a pre 13, 33 rd, factory glock mag. ;) Or buy a 3 pack from brownells.

Someone had replacement 31,33 round mag spring replacements, I think it was the glock store for $5

Yes. The TACOM ramped barrel is a worthwhile upgrade.

does it have a feed ramp? If not the taccom easy to install one is the way to go.

No, my current uppder doesn't have a feed ramp. Did you have to remove any material from the bolt carrier in order to make room for the ramp?
I ended up going away from a dedicated GLOCK mag lower and did the MEAN Endomags, the PMAG conversion supplies a feedramp so to speak and works with ALL ammo. Also locks the bolt back on last round.
The only downside is the ejector is on the mag conversion so if I have a malfunction I have to change my mind set to pull the bolt back lock then drop the mag instead of the normal way.

I'm using the Endomags, too, and I installed the Magpul BAD Lever make locking the bolt back easier. I also found that the Maglink coupler wouldn't allow the second mag to feed.
I've never had a problem with ETS 30(?) round mags in my JoeBob Tactical AR9...used their lower n upper together so it has LRBHO which has worked flawlessly....all the other parts are Kaw Valley Precision
