View Full Version : New Tool
So good, it deserves its own thread.

Just in case anyone else couldn't care less:
Is it a new carbon scraper for the AR? A better way to fit a 1911 beavertail? A 650 mod that will only advance the primer feed if there's a case present?
No, it's a song by a music group called 'Tool'.
I sat there waiting for the sales picth to begin, then when nothing started within a resonable time, I fast forwarded and found no tool advertised.
The only way the title and contents could have been more misleading is if this was a machining board...

This explains why my you tube is inundated with tool music videos. I don’t even like or listen to tool.

Think Maynard (lead singer) is keen on firearms. Nice photos of him on the Web withe the Nemo Recon rifle. Also served in US Army, turned down option to attend West Point. Wouldn't think he would be part of an advertising campaign for a firearm (in honor of a MOH soldier) unless he was keen on 2nd Amendment. Don’t see many stars holding firearms these days...

Nice, although a little derivative of some earlier works. Still, I'll take it. Aenima would be my top pick for a desert island album, and if I could just take one, I still don't think I'd get tired of it.
I'm also enjoying the School of Rock and O-Keefe Foundation covers.

One of the owners from Nemo moved down to the area. I've run in to him at the store a few times. Yes Maynard's heavy in to guns.

While I generally like Maynard, there's no need for the bacon in the wine.
Technically speaking, no product that involves the use of fermentation is vegan.
After all, in order to get alcohol, you have to use yeast, a living organism, as part of the fermentation product.
The yeast eat the sugars of whatever you put in there, and poop alcohol.
Eventually, the alcohol content gets so high that it kills all of the yeast.
So basically any vegan that drinks any alcoholic beverage is a complete hypocrite; sure, eating a steak means a cow died, but drinking a beer or glass of wine means that tens billions of yeast cells died.
Excellent videos. Thanks.

'Cuz bacon.
30 August cant come soon enough.
Been listening to nothing but Tool for the past few weeks.

Rick Beato is terrific, I have learned alot about music since I started watching his videos.
I didn't appreciate Tool until I heard Rick's breakdown of Schism, now I have a better understanding of why some people like Tool.

Was that before or after you saw the Aaron O'Keefe covers? Assuming you're familiar.

The death of one cow is a tragedy, the death of millions of little yeast critters is merely a statistic.
Who knew that tragedy and statistics could be so delicious?

Taylor Swift is a Progressive Liberal who loves Michele Obama...enough said.
she's also a twit. Saw her on the Graham Norton show. She had no clue what anyone else was talking about, or got the "jokes" Either way this is about TOOl......
Join with me or Fall as well
If you're talking about Taylor Swift in a thread about TOOL, you are wrong and should feel shame.

Um, just so happens yesterday was the only day ever that I didn't listen to Tool in the truck on the way to Pueblo to shoot. All because my song list was hijacked & I didn't have time to right it.
I now think THAT explains why my day was mediocre.
Just saying
I wasn't.
I know. You weren't included in that. :)

Not impressed with what I have listened to so far. Tool in my opinion has been a mediocre band at best. The new killswitch engage is pretty awesome, can't wait for the new lamb of god to come out.

Saw a fella that looked like weird Al there too. I was hoping for a parody & still haven't gotten my hopes down.

Tomorrow
Today.
is the listening party release @ Maynards, Puscifier the Store, in Jerome from 4-6. But they're opening @ 9 this morning for people who reserved the album.
. Took the daughter & s-i-l to Merkins in Cottonwood, for dinner last night. Town had a good size crowd of "fans" wandering the area, considering it's about 15 min. down the hill from Jerome.
Jerome for a wed night was fairly packed. Thankfully we went last night, as today should be insane, between traffic and people.
How's the wine from Maynard's place? I've never tried it.

Not sure as i'm not a drinker. However the spouse and others liked the Chupacabra. The daughter purchased 3 bottles to bring back home. Or they are really enjoying the drive back to CA

Well it was an ok sequel to 10,000 days ... but it was no Lateralus.
So after a few weeks, here are my thoughts.
Musically 10/10
Typical Tool album with lots of complex music and very well done overdubs. Time signatures are all over the map which is awesome.
Lyrically 9/10
Maynard writes some pretty deep stuff. No exception here.
Vocally 7/10
Not the level of anger and angst in his voice as there has been in the past.
It is not as good as Lateralus or 10,000 days, but it is still good. Really good.
It is better loud.
Invincible is my stand out favorite.
Justins bass is more upfront this time, which I like.
Excellent overall, other than Chocolate Chip Trip which I have already deleted and couldnt care if I ever hear it again.

Excellent assessment, I pretty much agree completely, especially the 10/10 musically. My favorites are Pneuma and 7empest.

Saw them when they played Denver back in...geeze, 2003? 2004? Great show.
Would like to go to this one, but I bet tickets are going to be crazy.

I’ve got about 50 listens and I really like it. Chocolate Chip Trip has grown on me, I just fast forward about 60 seconds to when the epic drum solo starts. Right now, I think this is my favorite Tool album, it’s strong start to finish. The only thing it lacks is a truly excellent single like the others had.

After living with it for a while and giving it several listenings, its grown on me a bit. Its a good, solid album, but its not great. But lets be honest, the level of expectations for this album were always going to be higher than it could ever live up to.
Had they released this album 7-8 years ago I think I would have reacted more favorably.
I'm actually more hopeful for the new Alter Bridge and Jinjer albums coming out in the next month or so.
I've only listened through it a handful of times. So far Invincible stands out to me for the singing.
That said, I still need to take the time and just listen to the album straight through.
My overall impression is that it's musically complex, and it's pretty clear that the band has somewhat mellowed with age, I don't get the same vibe of fire and anger that were on earlier albums, and especially present on Undertow, but the album does manage to rock.
In some ways, this album reminds me of a darker, heavier version of Rush; mysterious lyrics, great solos, not super heavy.

The more I listen to this, the harder it is to pick a favorite song, and I think Invincible just overtook my two original favorites, what I do know, is each time I listen to this album, it bumps other favorites down the list.
