Got home and went to drop my laptop off in the basement.
Hmm the wall looks different.

Found an old copper pipe leaking at the joint. Stopped it by shutting off the water and lowering the water table. Yay for a project that we didn't plan on.

Well that sucks...
Does the carpet end at the doorway? I like seeing people tackling stuff on their own. Good luck.

It's one piece of carpet for the entire basement which needed to be replaced eventually. I guess that project is coming ahead of schedule.
I will have a handyman doing the drywall. He ran maintenance at our old apartment complex and does great work at a good price.
That's a valuable guy to know!
Oof. That stinks. At least you have good help.
Sounds like a great reason for polished concrete floors :)

Hmmm I'll have to research that option

Just google decorative polished concrete. Some neat potential. No idea if it’s durable or has a comparable expense with other hard flooring options, but it looks neat.
I looked into polished concrete at our house, but I had a nice even layer of asbestos tile glue over all my concrete that made that option a no-go.

Bummer on the water blow out, Man! Sorry you're dealing with that, always pita messing with water problems.

But with the mesothelioma payout money it would practically pay for itself!
Damn, dude. That sucks to have a leak like that. Good to hear you have a good contact for the work and good luck with the repair.

I know the feeling. We had an upstairs plumbing water leak, woke up to wet carpet and the kitchen ceiling on the kitchen counters and floor. We had to replace almost whole house carpet and ceiling and wall along with damaged lighting. We lived in a motel for a week and final repairs were completed after two weeks. I was never so happy to have had insurance for flood.

Just to be clear, that's not flood insurance.

Sounds like the perfect time to sell the scrap copper and learn how to run PEX.
Houses are the never ending project.
