https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/18/us/three-potential-attacks-foiled/index.html

Three nuts spouting nonsense on Facebook were arrested, stopping potential attacks.

One of them had a "a .22-caliber hunting rifle and 400 rounds of ammo" and "A school is a weak target.. id be more likely to open fire on a large crowd of people from over 3 miles away.. I'd wanna break a world record for longest confirmed kill ever".

Not going to do that with a .22, son.

This seems bad to me. Not that these nuts were arrested if they made direct threats, but it seems red flaggy and very intrusive.

Is the first amendment dead? Can we be arrested for thought crimes?

I do not like the direction this is headed.

Not if they stay in your head. Declaring to the public that you want to kill people is a whole other ballgame.

If they were talking about picking up dates at the daycare or elementary school, would you feel the same? I feel like it's not a bad thing to set some boundaries on what kind of intentions you can express before there are consequences. It's a slippery slope, but what isn't?

Man, that guy had 400-rds of .22LR?! That's like a good 30-min at the shooting range. Heck, that's not even a full bulk-pack of ammo from Walmart!

edit: I hate it when the media uses the number of rounds of ammo that a suspect had. That's like saying a truck driver that drove into a crowd of people had 22 gallons of gas in the truck! It's just a useless fear mongering tactic.

It's just a useless fear mongering tactic.

But it plays to the anti-gun and soccer mom crowd. If they were to dump 400 rds of 22 in a bowl. It would look like breakfast cereal, that would give the fence sitters something to thing about.

400 is a number some people can't imaging having so many of. A small cereal bowl's worth, not an issue

Now imagine if the social media sites patrolled them looking as vigorously for potential gang member attacks and drug deals, as they do school shooters.

Good point, but I wonder if the gang members/drug dealers use social media much?

One of the ladies in church mentioned that and both my wife and one of the other wives started laughing and both said, "my husband has more than that in his go-bag."

Especially with .22, it's important to know that that is the amount it is often sold in.

Well, now, what happened to the other 100 rounds that came in that brick of 500?

LOL thats exactly my point!

But the question remains, did he buy 4 boxes of CCI Mini Mags or was this a Federal bulk pack. If the later, where are the other 125-150 rounds?! [Sofa]

Honestly, I don't really want to be shot by a .22 LR....and certainly don't want my kids shot by one

Agreed 100%.

My point and others is that 400 rounds is not an arsenal.

Well if it was Remington Thunderbolts, he shot 100 and the 400 that were left didn't go off. [ROFL1]

For sure.

My late B-I-L was visiting one year. As i'm grabbing some ammo off the shelf, he says. WOW that's a lot of ammo!. The spouse replies.... Are you kidding me. I have more than that in my headboard

They just can't wrap their head around it. Which the media knows very well and exploits it .

I wonder if people that live in states with the soda tax (is that still a thing) say things like "WOW that's a lot of soda!" when they see someone buying a 24-pk or two.

Agreed 100%.

My point and others is that 400 rounds is not an arsenal. And it's not just libs. I have a coworker that is not just gun friendly, but somewhat of an enthusiast. He's even a member here, but very rarely posts.

Anyway, during some of the tougher times for rim fire availability, I tell him I found a great sale on 22lr, and did he want in on some.
He tells me, "no, I've got a full brick and a couple loose boxes, I'm good".

I was a bit taken aback, but let it go.

Some people just don't shoot that much. I don't think I've even shot through an entire box of 500 .22 in my life.

I went through a brick one day last weekend doing consistency drills

YET.....Hypothetically, you have more than that for inventory, hypothetically.

I recently started more .22 with the purchase of the .22 conversion for the AR, which is awesome and my kids getting a little older and being introduced to firearms

I also didn't really have a .22 worth shooting until very recently.

They're laying in the dirt after being cleared from a failure to feed.

One year for Christmas my grandfather gave my brother a custom 7mm Mauser with a gorgeous handmade walnut stock; I got a brick of .22. Come summer, my grandfather was pissed to find out that I'd already shot up all of the ammo he gave me. I never understood why or how he thought that ammo should have lasted me very long since I liked to shoot a LOT. My brother ended up selling that rifle about 5 years later for $70 when he was in financial straits. The bastard didn't even consider offering to sell it to me - and I would have given him $500 for it (it was worth close to $1k at the time) with the option to buy it back when he got in better financial shape.

If I still had any firearms, even a .22LR, I'd consider 5k to be my "discretionary minimum limit" for .22 ammo.

400 rounds? Chump change.

When I was a kid me and pips had access to a friends large plot filled with ground squirels. Our record was 7000 rounds in a 4 day weekend. I may or may not have shot most of it. Normal weekends when we were there was 5 bricks or so.
400 rounds is a warm up.

I wonder what the liberal media would think about 4-H programs all over the country buying pallets of CCI standard velocity
