Never had a car I really had to worry about it, and so far including my truck with headers and hi flo cats from the highway sniffers.

But kinda eyeballing a supercharged car that has a aftermarket exhaust. Dealer states it doesn't pass emissions but will with the original exhaust which is included....

I need to just go and look at it. I have a hard time believing just bolt on stuff past the cats would matter, so I'm assuming it's at least mid pipes that don't use a cat I'm guessing. If it's a full exhaust all the way to include headers that don't fit oem I'm probably not going to want to mess with the expense of swapping them out periodically.

I'm assuming I would have to go to a facility the first time before relying on just passing the highway onramp sniffers in the future?

Dealer ad says it?s a tow away?

Probably because by law they have to provide a passing emissions or a voucher.

What motor is it and how new. Import or domestic
It is mostly likely a bad tune the 800 for a good tune on a forced induction motor saves engines
I ran for 3 Dyno emissions cycles completely catless in my subi on a good Dyno based e50 tune

Just buy a place in Gilpin county and you won’t need emissions

You know why emissions places have such short daytime hours?

Yes, sold as tow away

2012 nismo 370z supercharged claiming like 500 horse.

Would like to probably get it returned anyways to something conservative.

Really just seems like having no cat is the issue when they do the inspection at an Aircare facility. So, you could probably get away with it like you said

My guess is that the guts from the catalytic converter were removed for increased flow, or it was simply deleted. It could probably be made legal with the increased performance, but the original owner didn't want to pay for it. If their only concern was trying to wrench more HP out of it, what might the original owner put that engine through?

Have dealer pull codes and provide them to you. Aircare will obd2 into it and if your ecu throws a code it won't matter if you have a cat.
Contact a nismo speed shop and ask them what they think.

Chances are if it was an easy or cost effective fix the dealer would do it, detail it out , and make a profit.

I would guess their asking price plus the cost to make it pass emissions is likely more than the thing is worth.

Question: Can a car have a rap sheet with aircare? Hate to be the guy that takes it in 4th time and they already have the goods on it.

Isn't there also some, spent x much, x repairs waiver?

From the description, one might expect the dealer knows it has gutted cats and can't just bolt on the OE exhaust and take a pass.

Gutted or not, AFAIK, aircare just needs to see the cats are there and have it pass OBD/sniff tests. There's lots of cars running around with gutted cats that easily pass emissions.

Except some newer cars have more than one O2 sensor and will throw a code due to decreased cat efficiency. (VAG)
Thats why I say to pull the codes and see what pops.

Right. But there is a cost to it. I just want to bring it up so he is aware that it has to bealt with, if applicable.

I played this game a bit over the past year. Once you have all of the required equipment (even if not working properly), have a emmisons test done to baseline performance BEFORE paying for additional repairs. The exemption people will only count the costs after the baseline tests towards the limit amount ($750?).

If it’s only supercharged, it should pass with the OE equipment unless it has some crazy tune on it. I’ve heard of people leasing a small space from a friend in a non emissions county that doesn’t require it...

So they spend money to avoid spending money?

A good tune will make the deleted or bypassed OEM OBD emissions monitors read “ready” on the air care scanners
because your car is a 12 it is in the last year of the 7 to be exempt so it is a required if you would have bought it last year you would be good.

With a supercharger it’s probably cat-less with no PCV or EGR. If they just ran block off plates for pcv and egr the inspection will be easier. The cats will be the hardest.

I’m my experience if it looks stock ish they won’t inspect and just scan the engine computer looking for the obd monitors to be online and happy
But With a chance for the Dyno i always did my e85 or e50 tune to reduce the emissions and put on my not a race car muffler.

If it’s on coils there are lowered car friendly emissions stations as well

In my trying to stay awake at night in an extra boring area this week..... Just saw the 2020 Vette...... Way more pricey, but damn I might save a year for this lol. (Ironically not a stick but makes me think of my old Audi R8 dreams) If nothing else, sounds like my dad is highly interested.

Already had it last year getting that aforementioned supercharged bike SouthPaw mentions. I feel like I'm the guy from Taladega nights. "I wanna go fast".

Hit 165 before having to stop, hadn't plateud yet. Need to get a couple things ordered then will try for 200 later this fall or next spring when I have time to go out of state again.

Out of state? 16th St Mall isn't good enough for you?
What about West Colfax?
