Has anyone carried at the state fair? I know there is a no weapons sign at the gate, and they do have metal detector wands. I have asked the last two years at the gate and they say it is allowed with a ccw permit. They give you a colored bracelet so PD can identify you as carrying. I asked if it was matching shiny bracelets, the one female just laughed. Last year, the gentleman said no matching shiny bracelets, it is allowed. I haven't chanced it yet.

This started a few years back when I got to the gate and realized I still had my pistol on. I took it back to the truck and came back while my family waited for me. It was then the gate person told me it was allowed, they just marked you withba different colored bracelet. At the time, I was still a deputy coroner. I try to follow what the signs say, but this has made me curious.

Wouldn't the different color defeat the point of carrying it concealed?

At least every CC would be able to identify every other CC at the fair.
Like the Israeli police putting colored tape on their firearms to identify themselves in a firefight. If you have yellow tape on your gun don?t shoot a guy who also has yellow tape on his gun.
The bigger question is do you get a discount at any of the food vendors for having the correct color wrist band?

Um, I really do have yellow tape on my rifle. . .
Because pinstripes make things go faster.

I spoke with the gate entry gentleman, he said absolutely. They check your permit to make sure it is you and give you a wristband. I still didnt try it. He did check my knofe to make sure it was short enough.

"Short Enough"
I may have access to a few autos that are slightly over the defined length by .25" or thereabouts.

I'm in the DADT portion of ccw holders.
Any time i go through a metal detector i say, must be my prosthetic. And no i am not removing it to go through again.. Unless your HR person is on site, correct.
I went to the Republican Political Convention, and they were wanding. As I approached I saw they had a separate area for LEO and CCW. I was okay with them wanding me, as I would just turn around and am legal ccw, but I decided to go to the CCW/LEO entrance because there was no line.
A couple of cops reviewed my entrance (background check, I'm sure) and then let me in.

Just an FYI. Went through gate 5 - the only gate open before 3pm for folks that want to see the animals and such - you know, what the fair used to be all about...
Metal detectors present in addition to wands.

Just got back form the State Fair. Set off the metal detector and handed the person my CHP and she said, "You have to wait for staff" and called on the radio. About five minutes later she pointed and said "There he is!" ...as he drove right on by to another gate. After about 10 minutes he comes back, doesn't wand me, never looks at my permit, hands me a wrist band and has me write my name and address in a book (without looking at my ID I was tempted to make up a name and address - he wasn't an LEO - but I decided I'm on so many lists, one more would make no difference). While doing all this he got a call on the radio to go to another gate for a CHP holder.
...so they had one person handling all gates. Delay: About 15 minutes.
During the process I asked him what he expects the wrist band to do and his reply was "So we don't shot you." Yhea, I bet the police have been highly trained to look for wrist bands in high stress situations. Not.
Note that no one else has wrist bands, only CHP holders.
Anyway, attached is a picture of the band. The "bead" only slips on, you can't loosen the band. So I put the band on loosely and 50 feet inside of the gate I slipped the band off and put it in my pocket. Problem solved.

Interesting- When did they change their tune on permit holders?
The "rules" on the website indicate all weapons are verboten.

I'm sure that the website saying that no guns are allowed is simply an innocent oversight. *cough*
I got my information from here; unfortunately both are second hand sources:
