Thinking of using my AR-10 on an Elk hunt this year and was wondering if any one has a suggestion on a good mag that meets Colorado hunting rules for capacity. I noticed that there are limiters that can be added to larger mags but I would rather buy a purpose built one instead of modifying one. Thanks for the help

There are 5 round magazines available. I have 2 for when I go hunting.

DPMS makes a 4 round one, or you can get a magpul 10 rnd and then put in their -5 limiter.

Mag blocks work well and are cheap. You can buy two or three for less then the price of one mag and block a 2nd and 3rd one to carry along.

Mag blocks seem like an inexpensive solution. The ASC and Smith 5 round AR-10 magazines are around $20 a piece. I've seen the ASC magazines at gun shows, but have never tried one.

When you say AR-10... What do you actually have?

DPMS pattern rifle?
Armalite rifle?

For DPMS pattern Rifles I would suggest:
P-Mag: https://www.magpul.com/products/pmag-10-lrsr-gen-m3
P-Mag Block: https://www.magpul.com/products/minus-5-round-limiter-lr-sr-pmag-gen-m3

I?ve used a 4 round DPMS for hunting. It is metal, sturdy and has fed flawlessly so far. I think it was $20-25.

10 rd Magpul with the 5 rd limiter. I like the extra length of the 10rd in the magwell.
