View Full Version : New Aurora gun range needs your voice
Heard about this on my Nextdoor app. I don?t know the proprietor personally, but it really doesn?t matter at this point. That fact that there may be another 2A supporting business in Aurora is a good thing. I signed the online petition with a short note of support. Lots of women have voiced support for this which is awesome.

He’s my neighbor. The range will be down my street. All in for it!

According to the plan, the are going to use an old Rite Aid building at Quincy and Reservoir and turn it into a range.
There is a consulting firm involved, Hall-N-Hall out of Oklahoma. They seem to be a pro-shooting sports retail consultant.
Interesting use of an old building. I hope it works out for them.
However, there is a middle school just to the north and a couple elementary schools nearby. Another problem I can see is there are two marijuana stores in the same strip mall. Can't have kids or stoners exposed to the fact that people like guns. Guns are bad, remember?
Left them a short comment. As an Aurora resident I am very happy to see this. Hopefully they will be affordable and not a boutique country club with a range attached to it *cough* Centennial Gun Club *cough*.

Closed on Sunday? That's missing a lot of revenue.
I live close by and submitted a comment in favor. :)

Heck, the Shootn' Den in Colorado Springs (retail gun store) is right next to a pot shop in the strip mall!

Cafe with Cinnamon Rolls? I’m in!
Met the owner a week ago at my home and we chatted for an hour. Really nice guy and had a solid business plan.
Cinnamon rolls will be the deal sealer for the wife...
Has been approved.
Congrats!

Sweet! I'll try it out for sure. It's 3 miles down the road. Can't wait.
I wonder if he needs help?
The fact that it needed approval is what is wrong with this country.
As long as projectiles dont leave the building and sound is reasonable, below traffic noise, neighboring business, including schools should have zero say.

I don't know that zoning laws are very high up on the list of what's wrong with this country.

The parking lot of this place has a food truck and a guy selling Broncos crap.
The building has trash and graffiti all around.
I guess the plan fell through.
Last I heard through a third party was that his investors backed out when Covid happened.
Annnnddddd...... This is why you don't pre-purchase memberships to gun ranges that are "Supposed To" be opening soon. This is a repeated scam that unfortunately too many people fall for then lose their money.
Too bad for the investors. I think Covid proved to be pro gun! They could be raking it in right now if they hadn?t backed out.

A shooting range right next to a headshop would be entertaining.

Like we needed another indoor range?
Driving through smaller cities I always am impressed by the nice public OUTDOOR ranges I see in places like Montrose or even Salt Lake City.
I think the most shooting I ever did outside the military was when I lived in Laramie. For $50/year I joined the local gun club and had full use of the outdoor range that was 5 miles from my apartment. Being a broke student, shooting was one of the few things I could afford to do (back when ammo was cheap and plentiful.)
Yes, Laramie has sucky winters and I had a 2wd pickup as my only transportation, but I still never had trouble getting to the range (and if it was too cold/snowy to make it into the range I wouldn't have wanted to go shooting anyway.)
It baffles me that in a large metro area (with, what, 2.5 million people?) we can't seem to support an outdoor public shooting range. Our only viable choices seem to be Cherry Creek, Buffalo Creek (when it's open) or making the long drive to Summit County or Pawnee Buttes.
I get that outdoor ranges are probably more difficult to run as a business than an indoor range that can operate regardless of the weather, but I sure would like to see more OUTDOOR shooting opportunities in the Denver/Front Range area.
(Side note: Who remembers an outdoor shooting range off of CO 7 between Lafayette and I-25? I want to say it was a little bit East of the airport. There is a housing development and a golf course there now but I remember going there around 1998 - 99 when I lived in Broomfield. It was one of the very few outdoor ranges in the metro area that was not a private club.)

The price of land combined with insurance, AND epa requirements . All with ever encroaching housing developments. With most of those moving in , anti gun. It's not worth the investment, to be told in 3 years, the neighbor's have petitioned the town, to shut you down.

Mile-Hi Shooting Park. We went there frequently for my college shooting club range days in the '94-'98 timeframe. Nice facility. I associate it with my SKS, because I put a lot of rounds down range with it there.
It could also have been the old location of Green Mill Sportsman?s club, which moved from hwy7 to where we are now, just north of the Erie landfill, decades ago. There is no better example of housing development encroachment than us?. It?s a miracle we are still there today.

Yes, I think Green Mill sounds right.
Is the new one in Erie open to the public or members only?
FWIW - The Summit County Public Shooting Range in Keystone, by the dump, is pretty nice - although not nearby Denver. Haven't been there in years but it looks like they've vastly improved it! https://summitrange.org/default.html

We are open to the public all of September and October for “Hunter Sight In”, but otherwise it’s only available to members and police departments that reserve the LEO ranges during the week. Members can bring up to 3 guests at a time though, so hit me up if you’d like to coordinate something sometime.

We have some great outdoor ranges, close to Denver Metro area, but they aren't public.
If you want Public, buy a parks pass and go to Cherry Creek. But there are options to do a private shooting range, outdoor, close to Denver.
In short, I am not sure why you are flumoxxed?
I live less than a mile from this proposed new (indoor) range, but never invested.
Is there a range on Gun Club Road? By E470?
Aurora Gun Club. Private, with a sizeable waiting list

Yes, but like most of the other private ranges, there are loads of matches that are open to the public.

Question from website:
Cost: $20 per shooter for the first gun, and $10 per gun for additional
If I bring 1 scoped rifle and 1 handgun, it is $30 per person?
Question from website:
If I bring 1 scoped rifle and 1 handgun, it is $30 per person?
No, that would be $30 for you…. Not per person.
But that assumes the other person has their own gun(s)… otherwise I’d have to defer to the folks that run the hunter sight in program.
That also only applies during those months when it’s open to the public, and during operating hours.
For instance, If you want to go at any other time of the year outside of Sept and Oct, it’s free if you’re a guest of a member. It is also free for guests after 5pm during those two months.
thanks sawin.
maybe we should do a mini thornton shoot meet.
