So, I bought two Raptor Radian Ambidextrous charging handles (https://radianweapons.com/pub/media/catalog/product/cache/23c1face83f24393654b13d83ee4cfc6/r/a/raptor.tungsten_2.png) for some builds I'm in the middle of, thinking "What could possibly go wrong?" and found out pretty quick I didn't like the design at all.

The problem is when you go to stow the charging handle (let's say after locking the bolt back) - if you're pushing forward on either "wing" it won't lock in place because the wing needs to pivot back in order for the latch to move out and over the ledge it's supposed to lock beyond.

The solution is to either pull a wing back to allow the latch to move out, or push (hard, make that very hard) precisely on the very small center of the handle so you're not touching either wing to get it to latch in place.

I don't like either option - I want an ambidextrous charging handle that I can push anywhere on the back of and it'll lock in place just like a standard one where the latch can move independently of the "wings".

I'm currently looking at Aero Precision's ambidextrous handle (https://www.aeroprecisionusa.com/media/catalog/product/cache/8a4e8be590f5e34deaab5118a0859ee5/a/p/aprh308103c-ar308-ambi-charging-handle.jpg) where the unlocking latch is separate from the wings that you'd push against to stow the handle. But I'm not entirely sold on the Aero - I like the Raptor's design, if only the latch was uncoupled from the wings so it'd pivot out independent of the wings. Does such a design exist? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

BCM mod 4 Ambi (medium) for a snag-free experience - if you can find the old style.

Unfortunately, the new BCM Mod 4x4 is also as you describe and IMHO appears utterly useless.

Mod 4x4 sux.

If you're unarmed, you are a victim.

Geissele is on sale this weekend at Primary Arms.
https://www.primaryarms.com/Brand+Geissele-Automatics/MCategories+AR-15-Charging-Handles

Geissele usually has GREAT prices during their Black Friday weekend sale.
The drawback for those sales is they can take weeks to ship sale items.

PM me if you want to fondle one of the Airborne Charging Handles.

Given the picture of the Airborne (https://www.primaryarms.com/SSP%20Applications/NetSuite%20Inc.%20-%20SCA%20Mont%20Blanc/Development/img/05-497B_00.jpg?resizeid=7&resizeh=0&resizew=2000), I think it's exactly what I'm looking for. The pivot point on the latch makes it appear to float in relationship to the handle.

I've PMed you. Could you run a test? Pull out your charging handle and just pull the latch away from it's resting position. It it pivots away without the charging handle's "wing" moving, that's perfect!
