The game is VR, called Half-Life Alyx, set between the events of 1 and 2.
(Someone found a cool easter egg in the video, on the lower left of the cabinet where Alyx picks up her gun, there's a Scout bobblehead).
Looks nice. Good to see more top tier games for the platform. I LOVED looking at normal gaming news comment sections. Everyone is so mad that it's not Half Life 3 and it's VR only. So funny.
As a VR fan I'm a little surprised that has floating hands and offers teleportation as a locomotion method. I really thought VR was getting beyond those two things and sort of expected more from Valve.
I've got limited VR experience, but I think the smooth moving makes people sick faster than teleportation.
I think it's the eyes perception of movement that doesn't align with the inner ear.
Correct. I don't get motion sickness except in extreme situations. There are certain movements, and certain games that can have me on the edge of puking in only a few minutes. Most every other game though I can play for hours with no problem.
Boneworks doesn't do teleportation and has a full-body avatar. You move with whatever joystick equivalent your controllers have - no other way. And it's the best selling VR game presently. For most VR players, it doesn't bother them at all (including myself). VR motion sickness seems to be something most people can quickly train out of. New players on the other hand, it's instant-barf mode. Then there's those rare genetic few that will barf after a single turn on a tire swing.
I think it's best when games make both options available, and it doesn't seem like it requires all that much in resources to do it.
