With anywhere from 4 - 20 inches of snow predicted over the next 2 days, and already 400 + flights canceled in advance, how many hundreds of travelers are going to be stranded at DIA enjoying whatever fast food restaurants there for ?T? day ?
And how many ?I don?t have a clue? motorists are going to be stuck on Pena BLVD. Trying to make it to/from DIA ?

Plus, the ?front range? ends at Fort Collins so technically any forecast for the front range is null and void in Wellington.

I tried twice to pick up couple of things at the grocery store today with no luck. Couldn't even get in the parking lot. I guess everyone was flocking to stock up on bread and milk for the big snow.

I don't need bread or milk but still need to grab a couple of things so I'll wait until it's snowing like a banshee to try again. Maybe hit up King Stupids just before midnight.

Fwiw, I put the plow on my truck.

I don't always when they call for snow.

You hooked the plow for three inches?

I'd hate to see what you'd do for eight or ten inches.

Meh, they hype up every snow event. As always, "we'll see". I like giant dumpers of 3 or 4 feet. Makes everyone slow the hell down for a day or two and <gasp> chill with their family. Bad week for one of those though.

I tried twice to pick up couple of things at the grocery store today with no luck. Couldn't even get in the parking lot.

I needed a bell pepper for steak fajitas. I drove past three stores that were packed. The King Doops I stopped at had three green bell peppers left.

Something I noticed at 1:30 in the afternoon was the overwhelming number of old folks shopping.

I guess when the news says, "We're all gonna die!!!"
They ask, "How high?"

I may have mixed metaphors...

Funny thing is, unless they're imports, the old folks should be the ones who are calm and not spazzing. They've seen real blizzards. The "snowmageddons" we've seen recently are fun but no reason to panic. I just don't understand anyone who has less than a week's food in the house when living in Colorado in the winter.

Most of "Those people" live in Grand Junction, Colorado's bastard child with Utah. *shakes head*then again, the worst snowmaggeddon they ever saw was like a foot. Probably all the way back in the 60's. [Beer]

We've got about 7 inches here on the Peak-to-Peak, the last few have been light and fluffy.

I sure like the sound of the state snow plows driving by. I'll plow and get out the snowthrower over the next couple days. We hauled about 4 cords of firewood logs in the past week. Needed to get it in before the snow piles up. Cut and split some today. Before long I'll be good for two years of heating.

Mrs. Hummer gets to stay home and paint tomorrow. The DA, courts and all county offices are closed tomorrow due to the weather. Once in a while the flatlanders have to deal with what we experience on a regular basis.

I go to the self checkout lanes when the regular checkout lanes are miles deep. But I live behind a grocery store, so I can go often, if required. :)

Lots of empty shelves, etc. People worried that they can't get their Thanksgiving shopping in, etc.

My King Soopers seemed to be handling the load okay. Thanks to all the King Soopers workers, because it can't be easy.

Dusted off the inch of snow on my truck and went to the grocery store.

My theory about the earlier crowds stockpiling for the big blizzard was confirmed.

Nice part was there were maybe six people shopping in the store and I got a really good parking spot.

Might venture back for a couple more things at 5 am when they open. Probably won?t be too crowded at that hour either.

I'm thoroughly astonished by the fact that people here can't drive in snow, and freak out over a few inches of it. It happens every year, it's not new, it should be routine. I grew up in MN and nobody ever freaked out about a few inches of snow, or a foot, or two for that matter. You just left a little early and drove a bit more carefully. Heck it took at least 18-20" before they had a 2 hour late start to school. Just baffles me.

About 12" out close to Morrison. Still dumping when I left for work at 6. Brushed my truck off, cleared part the driveway with the snow blower in about 5 minutes and had to brush the truck off again. Drive downtown wasn't horrible but it wasn't packed down too much yet.

Too much wind to be accurate with snow amounts out here. Maybe 8" and drifting ugly. We will be snowed in by 9AM. Drifts will be too big/deep to drive thru.

We turtled up about 6PM last nite.

Little more north wind or west wind and drifts would be manageable. Right out of northeast, buries my road and cuts thru wind breaks at just the right angle so that drifts are not perpendicular to roadway. They start packing and getting hard with the force of wind and you can no longer blast thru them. You bounce off at an angle.

They funnel everything right to the ditchs as cars bounce off of them.

The state rarely closes 52(which locals appreciate) and rarely announces it. When I76 closes then dumbazz travellers instantly switch to 52 thinking they can get thru. They get sucked in by relative ease of north/south section and travel the 13 miles to my hood where road changes direction to east/west road and they have 18 miles of deep drifts and bluffs for geologic formations. The drifts are hard to read and almost impossible to judge depth.

Travellers with sedans and 2 wheel drive suvs get eaten.

Over the years we have rescued or helped rescue many of these folks. Very few ever realised the danger they were in trying to get thru.

Back porch and deck. Porch to back door is 18" tall and deck is 24" above yard. Drift around deck will be over deck soon.

One of the reasons fence is 5' tall. Last year the 3' fence drifted over and GSD had free range.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191126/62b7f39a025e9518bcad1846758b9f7f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191126/f7f280e3351ce1cc5eda2a7ffad5e298.jpg

We had about 8 inches out at the house in Aurora, more like 17 here at the shop. My commute was actually faster than most days, as there was little traffic. The maintenance gremlin had not plowed the lot when I got here, but is working on it now.

Close to 24” drifts, 12”-14” standing in the backyard in Centennial. Made it to the coffee shop, told them I’d be screwed if they weren’t open lol. Smooth going into downtown. Seems like most of the recent transplants trying to further screw up this state stayed off the roads thankfully.

Hard to tell how much we got with all the wind. I would say approx 15in and it's still coming down good. Snow is three foot up my nehibors front door, it's nice for a change that I don't have to shovel the porch out.

Shoveled most of the driveway and sidewalk. Have drifting about 2.5 ft. deep on part of my driveway. Finished the sidewalk from my truck in the driveway to the property line. As I turned to walk back to the driveway the sidewalk behind me was already white. Was still snowing heavily and the gusts of wind create clouds of swirling snow.

Didn't even make it out of the neighborhood before I found a tire chain. I chased down a Cherokee on 35's messing around to see if it was him, but it wasn't. Young kid looked surprised to have a minivan with a ladder chasing him down, lol.

I shoveled a foot of snow off the sidewalks last night at 11:30pm, this morning there were two feet of new snow waiting for me when I opened the door.

The much heralded global warming is not working out the way I'd hoped [Rant2]

I think we got ~15 inches this morning and another 4 inches throughout the day. It's still snowing lightly. I plowed, ran the Toro snowthrower and shoveled for 6 hours. Helped out some neighbors, too. I hope it's mostly over for a while. It's supposed to get down to 3F degrees tonight. I'm having a hard time thawing a 20 lb. turkey. We're planning to brine it tomorrow.

Gosh, I'm glad I pulled in about 4 cords of firewood logs last week. Sawed, split and stacked wood all day yesterday as it was snowing.

About 24" here west of Boulder. Used my Wrangler with 33's to make a virgin punch out to the plowed canyon road. Ran into some Airbnbers who had booked a house on a unplowed road and attempted it in their rental Kia Sportage- didn't go so hot for them.

You caught that huh? I love the cold weather as long as I am only out for a limited period I don't usually bundle up too much. Warm house to warm vehicle, to warm business, etc.... I was in shorts all day today. Now working in it on the other hand tomorrow I will be quite layered up.

Prior to today, I had begun to think that the snowblower I got from Bert was overkill. Those concerns have been laid to rest. 18 inches of snow at the shop, drifted to 34 or so in spots. The maintenance troll managed to stick his plow truck, but eventually got it out.

I think I am to finally need to replace the auger/impeller drive belt, my snowblower was pushing a big berm of snow in front of it and not throwing a good amount out the discharge chute.

A good snowblower is definitely a life saver. My FIL gave us his about 10 years ago because he hired a service and didn't need it anymore. It's a beast and has moved a ton of snow for me and my neighbors, who I try to help. I'm not the most mechanically inclined guy, but it's been fun to learn more and more about maintenance and repairs on it over the years. It's pretty bullet-proof, but I've had to change a belt here and there. replace shear bolts, etc.

We live on a corner lot and that's a crapload of sidewalk to clear . . . and when there's as much snow as we got today, shoveling would be a gigantic challenge. I usually shovel the driveway just for exercise, but the snowblower does the rest if there's more than about 5 inches.

The plow guy at the shop just does the driveway (and a shit job of that). I have to clear along the building in front of our bay doors, and any parking spaces (up to 6 or 7), so a shovel is a non starter any time we get more than a couple of inches of snow. Before the original landlord passed away, I had keys to the old Scout with a plow and chains, so I would get there early and the lot was clean by 0730, so I know that it IS possible to plow that lot correctly.

sold the snow plow & mower when we moved. 1/1/19 had 2" + of snow on the ground. Neighbor removed with his kabota, rest was gone in 2 days.

End of year they're talking 12" + over 6K foot level. Maybe down to the 5k mark. we're at 4700ish. Way it looks, cloud & temp wise i think that may be revised .

Yesterday i was catching some sun while freeloading.

I used to plow snow, your lot would be an easy lot to plow. On a hardness scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being a perfect square with no curbs or obstructions anywhere I would rate your lot a 3 at most.

This blizzard and cold weather is going to put a serious crimp in my normal Xmas lights routine. I just went out in the snow and hung the lights on the split-rail fence around the side & back of the house (easy to reach but was post-holing along) and then got the lights hung around the back patio cover (not too hard to rreach with my ladder and the snow held the base firm). On the front of the house . . . I may be hosed for awhile. We have 2 stories and the first level gutter is easy enough to reach, but is pretty frozen up with snow & ice. Can't get the hangers in.

The second floor, I have to stand on the roof for part of it (it's easiest to stand up there for all of it) and it's not gonna be safe to be on the roof for who knows how long. Parts of it I can reach with an extension ladder, but I'm pretty sure I can't reach a significant portion that way--because it's recessed a bit in that portion. Had about 18 inches of snow on that first level. I have a roof rake and pulled a good amount of snow off. My hope is that it gets warm enough to heat up the shingles and melt that part off. But not sure how long that will take or if the weather will cooperate.

Eventually, I have to think it will melt enough before Christmas . . . but it might be a pretty short stretch to have them up. I should have been "that guy" and hung them up early when it was all sunny and warm. But it's NEVER like this, so I figured it was fine to wait.

Meh, they hype up every snow event. As always, "we'll see". I like giant dumpers of 3 or 4 feet. Makes everyone slow the hell down for a day or two and <gasp> chill with their family. Bad week for one of those though.

Agreed.
