Colorado Man Shows Up For Jury Selection In Pink Bunny Suit (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/colorado-man-shows-up-for-jury-selection-in-pink-bunny-suit/ar-AAK20w2)

Can you be held in contempt for anything anymore?

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) ? She was just meeting her obligations, showing up for jury duty, so she sat down with the others in the room at the Jefferson County courthouse. But then, there he was. A grown man in a rabbit onesie.?

I had to do a double take because I could not believe it,? said Amber Reitz, who snapped off a few photos of the man in the bunny suit.

Yes, a pink bunny suit, with the ears and everything. Maybe related to the movie, ?A Christmas Story,? because that?s exactly what it looked like ? and Reitz says the suit had the logo from the movie on it.

?Of course the group of about 75 people waiting to find out if they were assigned to a jury began whispering about what seemed to be an effort to get out of duty.
He was obviously extremely proud of it because he had his ears popped up and everything,? said Reitz.

Reitz herself hadn?t known what to wear to jury duty, and even thought, ?Well, maybe it?s his job and he didn?t have a change of clothing.?

Then she figured, no, probably not.

?He wasn?t embarrassed at all. He got up and walked right in front of everyone to get coffee and didn?t act like anything weird was going on.?

So the waiting continued. The court picked a group, then another, about twenty people in all had their names randomly called for jury duty. The last group, including Reitz and the man in the bunny suit waited, then, finally were dismissed; they would not be needed. She asked the deputy if you can do that and was told, ?Basically you can wear whatever you want, you cannot wear a hat in the courtroom, but whatever you want.?

Nothing about bunny ears.

The man left with her group, unpicked.

I don?t think he would have got out of it,? Reitz laughed. She said it made showing up for jury duty interesting.

?I was not looking forward to it, but I am so glad I had to go,? she added.

I heard they breed like rabbits.

I hold contempt for people who blatantly do dumb stuff like this to get off of jury duty. Then again, the people involved in the trial are probably all better off that they aren't on the jury.

So bunny suit boy didn't actually get called?

I would imagine that, if called, a judge might be a bit less than amused. At least, I would hope so.

Who writes this stuff and who checks it off these days? The article starts out referring to the person as a she and then within the same paragraph refers to the the same person as a he.. Is this a gender fluid situation?

Actually no, the she is referring to the person that snapped the photos, who was also in attendance for jury duty, the he is bunny guy.

That figures.. I'm on my 4th Rio Grande margarita so my comprehension skills at the moment are apparently lacking. Back to the regularly scheduled program!

If you want to stay off a jury, bring a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird.

You could also inquire about jury nullification..

So do a lot of Judges. Only when a Judge holds you in contempt you go to jail.

TBH, if you don't want to be selected for a jury, all you need to do in the vast majority of sides is come across as intelligent, independent, and unbiased. (Especially through e.g. job information and the initial questions) Usually, that's exactly the kind of juror neither side wants.

Or be honest when asked a question. They asked my spouse . How do you feel about pedophiles?

She said They should hang the fuckers. Unless I got to shoot them, first. ... Dismissed.

I think this guy probably wanted to get picked by wearing that.
(too much runaway jury anyone?) :D

I've been wanting to be on a jury (preferably for an interesting trial) for 20+ years, but always get the "no need to show up" message when I call the day before. My wife's been on 2 juries for trials and just got her citizenship 9 years ago. She was even summoned once for jury duty before she was a citizen. LOL @ government competency.

I have been called once for JD in Jeffco about 15 years ago. I went dressed in my finest grunge skater look (faded jeans, flip flops, hoodie, hemp necklace, beenie cap, goatee). Even with disclosing I was a Veteran and an engineer, I was selected and ended up being the foreman. Probably on a "list" now, because after the not guilty verdict, we called both the DA and the Public Defender into the jury room and read them the riot act on the complete incompetence both sides demonstrated. The judge was pleased.

I went about 30 years with getting the "no need to show" result. Earlier this year (right in the middle of a huge work project) I got called and had to show up. Got called up in the first round of selections and was sat in the first set of people in the box. Answered openly and honestly to the questions . . . which I was pretty sure the defense wasn't going to like. But ended up on the jury. Ended up taking two days in total.

I suppose it was "interesting" to participate and if I ever found myself on trial, I'd want jurors with half a brain determining my fate. The deliberations were like any group discussion, with some people being bleeding hearts or being interested in hearing themselves talk about anything related or unrelated and some being more analytical and down to business. We had a few people who seemed to enjoy the fact that they were off work and they wanted to go off in all sorts of directions of discussion. Had to be corralled by those of us who wanted to focus more on the facts and not be there all week--the foreman wasn't very decisive in the end. I probably drove most of the discussion and trying to get the jury on track and keep them there when it drifted or stalled. Ended up finding the guy guilty on DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia. And it ended up that the guy had a track record for it.

But in the end, it won't break my heart if I get another long stretch of not having to report or being dismissed.

I've been called several times over the years and served 3 times. I found out that at 72 I could request being dismissed from being called anymore. I just couldn't sit there for so long or wait for break periods anymore.`

I postponed my last summons due to scheduled/booked work travel.

My makeup date is in the middle of the work week first full week of Jan. Probably when I'll be needed in FL for an upcoming work project. Fuck. I should have pushed it out further but thought it better to just get it over with.

A co-worker was on the jury for this case:

That's fun. We sat in on the closing statements for the case where the guy shot his co-worker up by 84th Ave and I-25 a few years ago.

Things have definitely changed. The last time I was called for jury duty and actually had to show up in Jeffco, the Judge came in and made one of the other potential jurors go put on long pants (he was wearing board shorts), or face potential contempt charges...I was actually never in the box for voir dire...

1st alternate, to the panel after the 1st juror was excused, and was excused as my butt hit the seat and I was headed for the car. I don't live my life where everything is a shade of grey, and apparently defense attorneys don't like that. [Coffee]

My wife had Grand Jury duty one year quite a few years back.

Once a month for a whole year. Ugh.
