Able bodied people park in handicapped spaces
But it's just for a few minutes!
Plenty of this crap out there:

In Boulder? Where is there that much space between vehicles? This must be photoshopped.

For that matter I hate it when people get handicapped parking placards for morbid obesity. Your fat ass NEEDS to start walking more.
That's all still not quite as bad as when someone says "math" with an "s".

Well yeah, but those people are British ... so there's other reasons to be annoyed by them :)
Hey, I have a HC placard, and I'm legit! But I use the single spaces, not the ones made for wheelchair access.

Same here. It pisses me off when I can't find a single HC space at the local King Soopers. There's snow and ice in the parking lot, and someone waiting for someone else is parked in the closest HC space to the store entrance. I mention it to an employee, and he's like 'people suck'. When I'm coming out, he's got the store van parked in the exact spot to load up for a delivery. [Mad]
Can't count the number of times people park right on the line thinking they've got free space in the HC spot next to them. Makes it near impossible to get in or out of my vehicle.

I thought HC people wanted to be treated no different than anyone else?

They do. Other than special parking spaces, unique bathroom facilities, ramps to bypass stairs, and brail drive up ATMs.

naturally being unable to squeeze past that vehicle means any damage incurred to said vehicle is on that moron who parked like that.
And it's also a good reason to call the local p.d . they're already parked outside the designated space. Blocking a handicapped parking spot is illegal
(4) Blocking access. (a) Regardless of whether a person displays an identifying plate or placard, a person shall not park a vehicle so as to block reasonable access to curb ramps, passenger loading zones, or accessible routes, as identified in 28 CFR part 36 appendix A, that are clearly identified unless the person is actively loading or unloading a person with a disability.
(b) A person who violates this subsection (4) is subject to the penalties in section 42-4-1701 (4) (a) (VIII).

I hate it when there are 20 handicap parking spaces and not one is being used. But I usually have off on weekdays, so maybe weekends are different and I don't see them being used so much. And I normally park way out of the way of anyway, so I really don't hate it, but note that it's kinda silly and SJWish.

Said by no person with a real HC ever. When you're unable to function normally, even small things that people don't think about in their daily lives can be limiting.
When working in a high rise building, I have to pretty much concede that I may not make it out alive if I have to evacuate via the stairs.
You don't have to go out of your way to not be an asshole to those that need accommodations. Being thoughtful about someone other than yourself shouldn't be 'special treatment'.

It depends on the store. There is a requirement that X percent of your total space be HC. A grocery store (everybody has to eat), including places like Sam's and Costco, tend to be really competitive for parking. Home Depot on the other hand, pretty much always has parking available. The Home Depot parking lots I've been in seem to be way bigger than they ever need, so more HC spots. Many HC can also limit how much DIY you can actually do, so they don't seem to get used as much.
I don?t mind the handicapped parking until you see that person with the permit that appears to be quite a bit more mobile than me using them. Like anything else, there are people who will take advantage of anything.

Well is see someone can be handicapped AND an asshole. Thanks GMAN.
Do you take everything as a personal attack directed at you? Probably, seeing as you seem to be the spokesperson for ALL handicapped people.
Being HC is one thing but being a jerk about it because you think everyone is somehow against you is another.
Please fell free to put a HC placard on all your post so we can respond accordingly to your protected class.
Have a blessed day.

I think there are certain government mandated minimums. Before our office built an additional parking lot, parking was at a huge premium. I think we have like 2 people who need the spots, but there were still a bunch of spots open. There were days I seriously debated using 'em anyway.

Sound like being left handed
If someone doesnt like or have issue with having placard, dont apply for one when you get a broken leg or your leg amputated.
Simple .......
Dont get it.

I've read some statistics that it can create challenges to your mortality. [LOL]
I know a church elder who is in 70s and have a place card.
He has a crohn's and on heavy dosage of biologics.
On a good day, he can probably outrun me
On a bad day, he is on wheel chair and cannot even eat any solid food for days.
For ignorant people, they will get mad that "normal" guy has a placard by seeing him on a good days.
We will talk if person with anti-placecard have severe lupus/hashimoto/kawasaki/sarcoidosis which your immune system is attacking your body and have to walk 700 yards to ER for rest of your life.
Well on his good days maybe he should just leave the handicapped spaces open for people who don?t have good days and park with the rest of the sheep in the normal spaces.
I don?t recall any regulation stating if you have the placard you have to use the space.
How do you like them apples?
There is only 2 spots and have 3 place card holder there.
So yes. He parks one next to it when he feels better.
Sadly some has to park further and save few regular spots for place card holder which is not a handicap parking
Which some would not understand why their church members yield closer non HC parking spot to people who carry O2 tank or have wheel chairs etc.
The whole parking wars thing is lost on me in the first place. I see people circling lots and going up and down isles and waiting for people to leave to get a spot and all I can do is marvel at just how fucking lazy people can be that walking a little is just beneath them.
I pull in, find a wide open space somewhere out in the back usually, and walk into to the store. I do it intentionally not because I worry about scratches on my precious vehicle but because a little exercise every once in a while is good for you. At my age I?ll typically take any exercise I can get.
I know this thread started because there are very small % of people who doesnt need a place card has one and abuse it.
Before we go there, I would rather talk about turds who park at hc parking without place card and block wheel chair access van.
Dept of motors are very strict on physicians signing those paperwork, and the county clerk calls or follows up on it.
I know because I applied for several times before and after my tkr.
Yep. My dad has Corticobasal Degeneration. It's an insidious killer. He has to get around with a scooter and my mom drives him in their mobility van with a ramp. If someone blocks access, it's not like he can just levitate into or out of the van.
If anybody thinks that getting HC parking is some kind of 'perk', they probably don't understand what people have lost or given to get it.

Chronic pain customer here with HC placard. Yes, I can walk, not super and it gets worse the more I do. Usually better to park HC so I'm closer after long trips around places like Wal-Mart.
I look like one who doesn't need it, but do. The doctor signed my application as permanent back in 2012. Sucks. I usually can find a spot non HC and it's just as close as HC spots.
The city of Lakewood is actively writing tickets for HC violations, I forgot to hang my tag once and was nailed. They have retired cops out patrolling.

I don't know WTH is wrong with my lower back, I've already had three lumbar surgeries and am scheduled for another MRI on the 23rd. Got an impressive scar though, I garontee.....
My money's on a bulged disc, it seems to come and go. Pain and discomfort are constant, but sometimes mild, other times excruciating. Some definite S1 nerve root impingement going on at the L5/S1 disc. Depends on what I'm doing, what I've done, even how I slept.
Point is, sometimes I get around OK, other times not so much. My cane goes with me everywhere though. But I try to use HC spaces accordingly, I don't use 'em if I don't need 'em.
But I worked with a greedy, selfish prick once that was the kind of guy that would be thrilled to death to find a HC placard in a parking lot, so he could get that "parking perk" for free, although he was young and totally healthy. He was useless in so many ways though.....

I like watching a parking lot at 24 hr fitness. Assnuggets going to work out but searching for a parking spot near the door.
L3 to S1 fusion for me. Even something like tying my own shoes/boots is a bitch. Nice scar on my back and belly (anterior and posterior fusion). First surgery that went bad with the MRSA infection in the fixation site ended up impacting the nerves to my lower legs/ankles/feet. I don't have full control of my ankles. If I step on an uneven surface to where it rolls my foot to the outside, the ankle rolls all the way over and I go down hard. I've broken both fibulas down toward my ankle in the past 3 years. Having enough room to get in and out of the vehicle is critical. I would give anything to have all of the feeling and control back which would help me be more active and lose weight. My consolation prize is a HC placard.
Yet somebody might think, "Look at that fat bastard. He just needs to park further away and get some exercise and he wouldn't need HC parking."
I hope everything goes well for you rondog.

"Warning: Alcohol may intensify the effect."
Awesome! A serving suggestion. [Coffee]
I miss alcohol, particularly bourbon. I've had 1 drink in the past year. I have some really good stuff, too. I avoid it since I take Lyrica to reduce the nerve 'noise' in my lower legs and feet.
...but the prospect is tempting.

The stenosis in my spine causes weird sciatic issues. It used to be painful. Now it just causes numbness. On occasion I suddenly lose feeling in my legs and it causes me to stumble and/or fall. Sometimes I'll try to lift my leg like to get into a car or step up a stair...leg doesn't lift but body doesn't realize it until it's too late. Makes for excitement...especially when I walk up and down stairs.
I don't take anything other than OTC stuff for pain and inflammation. I hate opiates. In exchange I keep my bottle of Buffalo Trace around the house. That works as good as anything.
I spoke with a neurosurgeon in Spokane last summer. He said the type of surgery I needed (forget the name of it) required opening up the front to get to the bad disk and fusing it, then flipping me over to attempt to fix the stenosis. About 4 to 6 hours. 3 to 4 months of recovery. Odds of improvement he said were 50/50. I didn't think the odds were good enough to go through that. I may change my mind if things get worse, though.
I have a C5-C6 foraminal stenosis that can cause my hands to go numb. It's positional. I also don't lose any strength or control in my hands, so that must totally suck for you. Losing control of your body is incredibly frustrating.
I was taking Aleve (naproxen sodium) for arthritis and inflammation for years. I've since switched over to Celebrex (celecoxib) once in the morning and it has been working well for me.

Your insurance covers cox2 enzyme inhibitors? (Celecoxib)
Mine doesn't and I take selective meloxicam.

Yep. It's also fortunate that there's a generic.

FWIW - I got tired of always chasing my HC hangtag placard around, damn thing was always out of reach somewhere, and I won't leave it on the mirror when I'm driving.
I have some peel n' stick Velcro, so I cut a 1" piece of it, put the fuzzy part on the back of the placard and the hook part on top of my dash. Now it's always handy, right under the mirror where I can see it and always remember to hang it when I park.
Just a tip from yer ol' Uncle Ron.....

I went with plates AND AZ gives you 3 max. hand tags. Here's the interesting part. that 3 is per year.
As a side note. While in CA visiting the daughter and S-I-L. We went out for dinner. being peak dinner time i told them well parking shouldn't be an issue i have my hand tag.

The Merc GL450 had dual sun shades, so putting it under the 2nd shade made it easy. In my Ram, there's a slot behind the cup holder that holds it nicely.
(...and no, that wasn't me at Scheel's).

That is a good idea with the velcro. I just don't like anything on the dash. The velcro could be used in multiple locations.
