In the latest (and all previous) version of the "Assault Weapons Ban", the definition of "assault weapon" is generally a "semiautomatic firearm that utilizes a portion of the energy of a firing cartridge to extract the fired cartridge case and chamber the next round; and requires a separate pull of the trigger to fire each cartridge"
If an AR-15 is so undergassed or ungassed due to manipulation of the gas block so that it requires manual manipulation of the charging handle to extract the fired cartridge and chamber the next round, it's no longer a "semiautomatic firearm" and should be exempt from any legislation, right?
That’s not the definition of an assault weapon as I recall it... just simply a semiautomatic one... but yes your point should be valid.

AND 1 or more of the following...
A. Barrel threaded for a muzzle device
B. Detachable magazine
C. Pistol style grip
etc.

"And" implies conjunctive. If the semiautomatic requirement isn't met, it doesn't meet the definition.

I went to the text of the bill just to make sure I captured the most current definition.
"and requires a separate pull of the trigger to fire each cartridge"
So by the same logic for the conjunctive AND, a binary trigger negates this portion?

By the letter of the law, sure.
I'll keep my gas systems and install binary triggers then.

Not broken, but adjusted to no longer function in a semi-auto mode. Once you have a rifle that no longer operates using the gasses to operate. it becomes a bolt action rifle. Doesn't matter what it looks like cosmetically. I built an upper for the S-I-L non-functioning gas block, front sight , no gas tube and one of these. I did install a muzzle brake (permanently) to look less evil.

Did you go with a light buffer system for quicker chambering?

Still the stock unit. Waiting to get a chance to road test before sending out to him.
In England where semi autos are illegal you can still get an AK or FAL or anything else as long as it is built without a gas system. They are are called Straight Pulls, basically a bolt action rifle. Build an AR without a gas block and it is no longer a semi auto and is legal.
What about a gas block that turns off?

Which is why, once again. The line to turn them in was close to zero
