View Full Version : 10/22 build?
So, I?ve been broadening my horizons when it come to firearm projects. Although I?m not a huge rimfire shooter I was thinking about putting together something on the 10/22 platform.
Really thinking of just going super lightweight and not getting too fancy.
Curious to see anything any of you have tossed together.
Also, am I better off starting with a standard rifle or just going from a stripped receiver?
Thanks in advance.

i've seen these items recommended for a lightweight build:

I put a Marlin 795 into one of these, slapped on an RDS and bought a bunch of mags for Steel Challenge. Has been fun and accurate.
Brownells have receivers, barreled actions and nearly complete rifles. Check them out as they seem to get good reviews. Also check out:

Anyone got their hands on the new Wildcat rifle?

Looks like it'll be a serious challenger to the 10/22.

I put a Kidd Ultralight threaded barrel on my wife's 10/22.
She found a Boyds SS Evolution stock she liked.
The complete rifle is amazingly light

Was a good idea to have magazine compatibility with the 10/22.
Built this about a year ago for shooting steel. Still haven't put the extended mag release on it. 75 ounces. I really like how it turned out.

Not sure of the stock, it came on Primary Weapons Systems T3 Summit rifle (https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/gun-review-pws-t3-summit-rifle/), which they sold to Volquartsen (https://volquartsen.com/departments/summit-17-mach2/products/1282-summit-rifle) (who put the toggle action on a Magpul Hunter X-22 stock (https://www.magpul.com/products/hunter-x-22-stock-ruger-10-22?ProductColor=VO343), just like I did :))

Note: I got the barrel and receiver from grabagun.com (https://grabagun.com/), who was much cheaper than everyone else at the time.

Thanks for all of the information so far. I was looking at maybe one of the receivers from Brownells unless I can get a good deal on a used 10/22 local.

That looks nice!
I have the TacSol lite threaded barrel with the Blackhawk! Light weight stock and it feels like a toy it's so light. I wouldn't recommend the stock just because the adjustment is so gummy it is frustrating. Can probably work over the plastic a bit, but haven't tried yet.

Unless you are going to keep the bolt and trigger pack stock you are better off just buying everything separate.
I built a 10/22 for each of my sons. I like both stocks I used, both are very light.

I have also always liked the basic Hogue overmold stock. It's plastic with a rubber coating.
