They did while people were trying to get to the Avs game at the Academy.

So that fiasco wasn't weather related?

Nope. "Emergency Pothole Repair".

CBS4: Frustration Left After Traffic From Avalanche Stadium Series: ‘Just A Huge Bummer’ (https://denver.cbslocal.com/2020/02/17/frustration-traffic-avalanche-stadium-series/)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., (CBS4) – Painfully slow traffic tested the patience and sanity of many hockey fans traveling to attend the Colorado Avalanche’s outdoor game at Air Force Academy’s Falcon Stadium Saturday night. For hours leading up to the game, North Gate Boulevard was a several-mile long sea of red tail lights. The traffic also overflowed on to north and southbound I-25.

“I feel like they should have had some type of plan,” said Michelle Bregman, who was attending the game with her husband, Ryan.

The Bregmans were among the many fans stuck in standstill traffic about an hour before puck drop. Eventually, the two decided to park their car near the parking lot of a 7/11 and join the crowds making the 3 miles walk to Falcon Stadium.

Many of the fans conceded the fact that, walk or drive, they’d be missing part of the much-anticipated game.

“I’m not really sure what they could have done to anticipate this, but at this point it’s just a huge bummer to be missing a good chunk of the game,” Bregman said.

“Sure it’s frustrating, but I can’t complain. it’s not like it’s a big surprise,” said Adam Myers, who planned to attend the game with his son.

Overall, traffic on and off the interstate was painfully slow throughout afternoon, with major slowdowns between Castle Rock and Monument, due to emergency lane closures by CDOT.

Many fans told CBS4 their trips from Denver took between two and four hours.

Patrick Deans, who came to town from Lexington, Kentucky to see the game, tells CBS4 he watched the first two periods on his phone while stuck in traffic, despite leaving Castle Rock four hours before the start of the game.

“We could see the ice, we could see everything, so it was just kind of painful knowing you’re that close and you can’t just get through traffic,” Deans said. “We sat in traffic for about three hours.”

Drivers also experienced heavy traffic in the 18-mile South Gap Project on I-25 between Castle Rock and Monument. On Saturday afternoon, CDOT announced its crews would be closing lanes in the area for emergency pothole repairs.

On Sunday, a spokesperson for CDOT told CBS4 the closures were necessary because of significant potholes that could have caused a crash that would have closed the interstate for hours.

He was down here today, and stuff went well. Wish I could have gone, but if you have the chance to support him up there, please do so.
There was a cool thing that happened with a WWII vet at the event today, very cool and certainly appropriate.

I heard there was a line of cars dark thirty early in the morning of people trying to get into the parking area for the rally. Some even camped out. That was a chilly night for someone.

Sure was. I heard there were a bunch of people camped out. Was single digits most of the morning down here and pretty humid.

Parking lot was full and closed before noon, lots of people are parking in the neighboring area. I hope there's good security and it's a nice peaceful day.

Traffic was backed up for 5 miles both ways on the I-25. CDOT cameras were turned off. A lot of constituents were complaining.
I would have planned it differently. I should have just stayed home.

Took me an extra 30 minutes to get across town. Should have stayed at work a little later.
Not complaining - glad he stopped by again.

I was parked near Tinseltown at midnight then napped until 5:30am. I pulled out to line up to park in the lot. Got parked at 6:30ish then got in line.
Yes it was cold until the sun broke.
Got seated before 1pm. I was wearing my Cav Stetson if you saw it.
It was a blast!!! My son loved it. It was warm inside. Well worth it.

If people would stop attending these (for any candidate, this isn’t a partisan statement) they would stop having them. Then they wouldn’t shut down roads and schools and we could go on with our regular lives. It would also save a tremendous amount of money (which I’m sure the politicians would find something else to waste on). There isn’t a politician on this planet I would wait 5 minutes in line to see, it amazes me that people attend these events.

I went with some friends / fellow APEX people.
We had a great time!
Entered the arena just as they started playing the national anthem.
I never saw any protesters outside, lots of Police and uniformed Secret Service people.
They did have to escort one group of about 8 out for yelling something.

Richard

Cory Gardner, Ken Buck and Doug Lamborn were there.

Right. Because we sure as hell don't need people exercising their right to assemble peacefully to support a political candidate. That's just un-American. Next thing you know they'll be wanting to say things and own things others find offensive. And God knows we don't need that sort of behavior.

Yeah, Democracies and Republics would run so much smoother if the people just knew their place, sit the fuck down, shut the fuck up and let the elites (our betters ya know) just run the show from their ivory towers. Much more genteel and orderly that way.

Unrelated, but who were the state reps (didn't think it was a senator) that is actually on the forum here once in a rare while? Some acquaintances actually have an issue affecting a group large enough to actually try getting some politico attention.

On topic, 9news even broke down and covered that Trump reached out and called Castillo's father from the school shooting and also invited him to DC/NASA in addition to getting vip tickets for the rally.

Nah, they'll demand money from the legislature to rebuild the road, spend it on other things when they get it, then declare a need for a tollroad saying the local citizenry needs to pay for it.
