So as part of the continued clean out of junk I accumulated thru decades, I found a stick welder in my storage. Unfortunately I did not take a pic or write the name down. It is a 220v unit.

Are those still useful? What sort of welding can be done with them?
Keep it or get rid of it?

Very useful, great to learn on. If you get rid of it for a song, please let me know.

Will do. If you want to borrow it though, just let me know.

Kid duties are tapering off in a few years, might learn then, too many intrests though.

A like for like stick welder vs mig welder, you can weld thicker material with the stick welder. If you run into a welder on a farm where stuff just needs to get done, it's likely to be a stick welder. Beyond that, I just don't have the knowledge/experience to help guide your decision. I've got a mig welder now, but don't currently have any projects where I need something that can weld thicker. Thank you though.

They are useless.

I'll give you $50 for it.

Of course, the above is terrible advice.

ac only, or an ac/dc unit? If it's the ac/dc you can do a scratch start tig conversion to it. While not the greatest as well as reduced duty cycle. It's a great way to learn.

I had a 125amp 110v stick welder that I got from my neighbor for like $20. I tried to start a weld with what was probably an old stick. I also had no idea how to start the weld (I still don't). Since I couldn't get it to start up in the 3 minutes I tried it, I sold it for $20. I wish had actually figured it out, I could have started learning to weld a few years ago instead of just last summer.
