Red Flag Abuse?

Other than the fiasco in Fort Collins, does anybody have info on the number of Red Flags requested and issues since implementation? Any stories of flagrant abuse, like the scared of their own shadow pacifist who doesn't like the fact then the neighbor has guns and fears for his safety, or the disgruntled ex- getting back at a former partner?

I thought I heard something this morning on Peter Boyles (710 KNUS morning show) that Steve Reams (Weld Co sheriff) had been red flagged, but can't find any confirmation. Maybe I misunderstood as I was in and out of the truck when I thought I heard him say it.

An inmate at the jail filed the petition, it is bogus and was tossed by judge.

Yes, absolutely abuse of the law and inmate can file more anytime.

The department's news release on Friday says tactical unit members were serving a “high-risk” search warrant around 4:30 a.m. when one of the unit's officers fatally shot Lemp. Police detectives recovered three rifles and two handguns from the home. Lemp was prohibited from possessing firearms, police said.

“Detectives were following up on a complaint from the public that Lemp, though prohibited, was in possession of firearms,” the release says without elaborating.

Sandler said the family believes police fired gunshots, not a flashbang or other projectile, from outside the home, including through Lemp’s bedroom window, while he and his girlfriend were sleeping. Nobody in the home heard any warnings or commands before police opened fire, she said.

“There is no warrant or other justification that would ever allow for that unless there is an imminent threat, which there was not,” Sandler said.

The police department's news release says the “facts and circumstances of the encounter” are still under investigation. Prosecutors from neighboring Howard County will review the evidence at the conclusion of the investigation.

At this point I don't think the MMJ/firearms possession rumor is true. Even if it is true this is still murder one.

I'd want to see body camera footage and the warrant and dispatch audio released, other info etc. before passing judgment. Not erring on anyone's side, just know that someone reiterating what someone else said who alleged to witness without even identifying them is terribly unreliable. It makes me wonder, is the eyewitness the girlfriend? doesn't mean she's lying, but her motivations would be different from any other eyewitness. (read the article, didn't watch the video.)
