Hi,

I've heard a lot of discussion about being able to buy one pistol suppressor and one rifle suppressor, each that can handle multiple calibers?

If I can only get two suppressors in my life, one pistol, one rifle, are there best calibers/products to get?

Thanks,

-John

I only shoot one Pistol Caliber (so far) 9mm. I shoot Rifle caliber from 6mm creedmoor to.223/556 to .300 blackout.

I also have a .22 rimfire, but that is different, or is it still in the rifle stack? ( or even on the 9mm stack?)

.22 is in its own category. Many pistol and rifle cans are not-serviceable. 22 is too dirty for cans that you can't open up and clean.

For pistol stuff, as long as the can is a larger diameter than the bullet, you should be good to go.

Same goes for rifle cans.

Even though a 6.5 grendal or creedmoor would fit through a 9mm pistol can, the pressure likely would be too high.

I'll let others chime in on the specifics.

Can I get by with two suppressors, two stamps?

Thanks,

I got a .45 can - Gemtech GM-45. It lets me shoot anything from 45 ACP down in pistol caliber, and also 300 Blackout as long as it's subsonic. I've had it mounted onto my 300 AAC SBR, my EVO Scorpion, and my Walther PPQs. It came with a .45 LID device (required for mounting on slide operated pistols). I bought a 9mm LID. You don't need one of those to mount it on a rifle barrel.

I chose this one for the specific reason of having one suppressor for multiple weapons. I also chose it because it's user serviceable. I can clean out the baffles on my own as needed.

The downside, if you can call it that, is I keep looking at additional hosts for it. (FN 45 Tactical and USP 45 Tactical have both been on my short list for a while). Or maybe just go straight to the MK25?

That pretty much jibes with my thoughts, Irving, thanks.

So as long as I buy the biggest pistol caliber I shoot (9mm) and the biggest rifle caliber I shoot (.300 blackout), I should be good to go... two suppressors, two stamps.

Is there a no brainer next step up of caliber I should anticipate needing? Like 10mm, etc?

Thanks,

-John

One Suppressor, one stamp is even better, obv. Thanks Mattioo.

This sounds perfect for my needs, as long as the adapters aren't as much as suppressors are.

Would it be safe to say that this is the theory of buy the biggest caliber suppressor you can find, and adapt it to your shooting caliber?

One suppressor, many calibers, one stamp?

You will still need 2 if you want to shoot rifle and pistol. The pistol can can?t handle rifle pressures. The 300 sAAC subs are an exception because they generate pistol level pressures.

I see, biggest pistol caliber I can find (or am likely to shoot), and that also makes me think biggest rifle caliber I can find (or am likely to shoot)?

Then I am done, two suppressors, two stamps? (more or less)

Thanks,

-John

You probably aren't going to want a 2 pound rifle can hanging off the end of a pistol.

ETA: Yeah, at minimum one rifle can, one pistol can.

Yes, great, thanks, makes a lot of sense.

I'll update you all when I am close to buying, just wanted to make sure I am on the right track.

Thank you,

-John

Best bet. 3 cans.

Rimfire.

45 caliber pistol can.

30 caliber rifle can.

That covers about most everything.

How much difference in sound is there between a .45 can on a 9mm and using a 9mm can on 9mm?

Not a lot. You as the shooter wont be able to tell that much. Someone next to you might be able to tell the difference.

However 300 Whisper/Blackout subs through a 9mm can is pretty loud compared to a 30 caliber can. Running a supersonic 300 Whisper might be fatal for the can. For 100% sure, I dont recommend shooting 300 through pistol cans.

i can go from my 45 adapter to 357, shooting suppressed 38's w/out an issue. Or some 147 9mm, out of the same can. IMO it depends on configuration of the can and load shooting. A factory (for the non reloaders) 115 gr 9mm will be louder than a 147 gr round.

Buy a 30 cal, 45 (pistol) and a 22, cal it good. Till you realize you have more threaded bbl guns than suppressors.

Since we're talking about suppressors, what if I just use a "fuel filter"?

Depending who it's going through. You'll either get one delivered, a note from customs saying the item has been seized, or in a few cases a visit from the feds. Based on a few Form 1 discussion forums. Most if not all are Al, so it's a decent rimfire unit. For centerfire, buy or build with the right materials.

I bought my stamp before I bought the form 1 kit. It probably didn’t matter, but that way I was covered if it got flagged.

Here's the problem, you buy 2, and then you leave them alone together...Next thing you know you get more...Damn things, even if you leave them separated, they'll still find a way to sneak out and bread.

That's especially true if you put them in a safe. Everything in a safe tends to reproduce when you're not looking. Then the safe is too small and you need a bigger safe.
