I am very bored. Only place I go out is cabelas/sportsman's, usps, and fedex.

No golf. No racquetball. No rec center. No workout.
Video game and online is one of entertainment I enjoy right now.

I probably gain another 20lbs from this.

Not bored yet.

Finished up a bathroom remodel project.

Been ?working? from home on and off.

Ordered some gun parts and finished an unfinished project that was sitting in the safe for way too long.

Plenty of television and movies being watched.

Got out last weekend when the weather was nice and got some field practice in with my golf discs. (Empty field, outdoors, nobody around so I felt all was safe.)

Could probably rake the front yard and it?s looking like it might be time to mow very soon.

Thought about doing some other stuff around the house also. Have a stupid drop ceiling in a downstairs hall/stairwell and I?ve been wanting to take it down and sheet rock.

Could wash the motorcycles or clean out the inside of my truck or the wife?s car if I really get bored.

Fixed a pressure washer, have been trying to get some cheap rattle can bedliner out of the truck. May attempt repair on the riding mower this week. Fixing the data port on the vinyl cutter when the part comes in. Probably going to build a shed when stimulus comes in....

Still in a hotel room, with a 5 and 6 year old, and the swimming pool was closed due to everything. Bored? No. Crazy? Absolutely!!

We've been doing our best to get out and hike, explore a bit. The gym situation sucks, as I was making good progress with the strength training, the upside is I've been forced to run outside as opposed to on a treadmill. Good times indeed.

I was on the west side and decided to go up into the hills. Went by the Bucksnort (closed). Going south past Buffalo Creek, I saw a lot cars in the pullouts and RVs camping. The parking area for the Gill Trail was packed as were all the parking to access the river north of Deckers. Seemed more like a Sunday than a Tuesday. Despite all the highway signs imploring one to avoid travel, there is still a lot.

Fortunately, I have historically been far shorter on time than on things to fill it, which means I haven't had a lot of opportunity to be bored. Among other things, I learned how to roll and apply fondant:

https://www.johnnyego.com/photography/vincent/2020/bigten/bigten03.JPG

This may have been the most expensive cake I've ever made. I already referred to the underlying chocolate cake as my '$30 Cake', because of the amount of reasonably good quality chocolate that got poured into the recipe. Having never worked with fondant before, I didn't think to buy one big box of the white kind and then dye the other two colors. Instead, I bought three $20 boxes, one in each color, from Michaels. I probably could have ordered everything I needed from Amazon for $20 had I thought ahead. Anyways, my son was happy, which is all that really mattered.

https://www.johnnyego.com/dump/cake/donuts01.JPG
Since the Dunkin Donuts closed down and Mr. Yo's is closed for Covid, donut options are somewhat limited in town these days. Figured I'd try my hand at frying my own. The dough was a sticky mess, and it puffed up considerably in the fryer, so much so that the first couple came out looking more like chocolate rocks. Similarly, the donut holes we rolled ended up being a lot bigger than we expected after frying. But we definitely got better as we went along. Cut the recommended frying time in half. They came out a little closer to cake-brownie than pure cake, and I thought they could have been a little sweeter. But the outer skin wasn't too crisp and they cooked all the way through, and my family ate them all.

Last night, since I am out of the Bisquick I use normally just for this specific thing, I made a more traditional double-crust chicken pot pie. Very happy with the whole thing. Put the chicken breasts in the pressure cooker to do their thing unattended for about 30 minutes all in. In that time, I made the pie crusts, did the veg prep, and prepared a bechamel base, which I hydrated using the steamed chicken water from the pressure cooker. Fork-shredded the chicken, added a little bit of stock, and put it in the oven for another 30 minutes. Tasted great. Even better for lunch this afternoon.

Made my wife a sunflower for her birthday. I thought I was going to paint it just like a sunflower, but she's into the bare metal look so I guess I'm going to find out how it fairs with clear coat. I'm a bit concerned with the overlapped parts. Anyway, the plan is to put onto a stalk (with 2-3 leaves), about 6' tall, and plant in the ground. I should have enough to make a second one, but all the hand shaping of each leaf takes time and I'm down right dreading punching all those dents again. At least I've got all the cutting and grinding done. All cutting done with my nibbler and a corded drill with a bent shaft. Each flower petal was individually cut out, ground smooth, then uniquely shaped. I finished everything with a wire brush on a drill.

Looks nice against this weathered plywood, but that's not it's final home.

This piece was how I wanted to attach the stalk to the back. I thought I should weld a piece of scrap onto the rebar in case I had trouble welding something so thin to something so thick. I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty impressed with this weld. Not in a braggy sort of way, more "I can't believe I didn't burn through the thin stuff." Anyway, the plan is to tack this plate onto the back.

Irving, here's a Sunflower poem you can print out all nice and give to her if you want:

"Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms"
Thomas Moore

Believe me, if all those endearing young charms,
Which I gaze on so fondly to-day,
Were to change by to-morrow, and fleet in my arms,
Live fairy-gifts fading away,
Thou wouldst still be adored, as this moment thou art,
Let thy loveliness fade as it will,
And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart
Would entwine itself verdantly still.

It is not while beauty and youth are thine own,
And thy cheeks unprofaned by a tear,
That the fervor and faith of a soul may be known,
To which time will but make thee more dear!
No, the heart that has truly loved never forgets,
But as truly loves on to the close,
As the sunflower turns on her god when he sets
The same look which she turned when he rose!

Thought for next texture project. Tack your texture device to a sacrificial hammer. Make it a one handed operation instead of two.

Its hard to get "board" when there is so much to get caught up on for the competition shooting season. So far I have reloaded four brimming 5 gallon buckets of 40 caliber ammo for the 2020 shooting season. Pulling the handle on my trusty Dillon XL650 is getting old though.....

Irving, here's a Sunflower poem you can print out all nice and give to her if you want:

"Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms"

Thank you.

Irving, cool project.

Thought for next texture project. Tack your texture device to a sacrificial hammer. Make it a one handed operation instead of two.

That's a pretty good idea, and I do have sacrificial hammers.

Well, I finally got to spend some time straightening and organizing a bunch of my firearm stuff. I had stuff in the garage and in three other rooms and now everything is in one room and much better organized.

I also pulled the rear sight aperture off of a spare A2 upper I have lying around and installed it on an A1 upper so I can have the larger 0-200 hole.

I have a Kydex holster that I don't care for so if I get bored later I might spend a little time modifying it so that it better suits my needs.

I have a Kydex holster that I don't care for so if I get bored later I might spend a little time modifying it so that it better suits my needs.

There. Fixed.

Here it is before. Note the clippy thing is directly over the trigger guard (which is fine) and then there is almost an additional inch of plastic sticking out behind the trigger guard. Makes the whole thing way bigger than it needs to be and feels like you are shoving a book into you waistband.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200403/1f7e764cb6c70e5ae7486a4532afc77d.jpg

So I trimmed off the unnecessary plastic, relocated the tension adjustment to the front of the trigger guard, and placed the clip just below the cylinder. Now the holster is a bit more size appropriate for its intended host.

Nice work, thanks for the update. About how many parts did you have to replace? How long it actually take you?Replaced the pump, a pressure valve and the corresponding hose clamps. Plus some misc o-rings, gaskets and such that I figured could use replacing while I was in there.

Just because I didn't know what the problem was exactly, I was going to replace the little water flow sensor which is a mini turbine type thing (water wasn't flowing, so I thought there was a chance the sensor could be the problem) but the new part was assembled poorly. The o-ring was pinched. I assembled the entire machine with the new sensor, fired it up and it didn't work. When I moved it water came out the bottom, so I knew there was a leak. Found the sensor leaking, put the old part back in, reassembled the machine and it worked perfectly.

Total time with takedown, reassembly, partial 2nd teardown and reassembly was no more than two hours of work. Most of the time was waiting for parts. I had to place two separate orders. I didn't discover that the pressure valve was bad until I went to reassemble it after the first order arrived.

Glad I took lots of pictures. I wouldn't have remembered where everything went after waiting a long time for parts.

I think the machine (Gaggia Brera) retails for around $500 new these days. Parts and shipping were under $100. So it's a win.

I will be spending an hour each day trying to remove crappy, spray can, bedliner from my truck (applied by the previous owner). 2 sessions in, and I may be 1/5 done. Gives me something to do on my lunch breaks.

Using a 2.8 gal, 3100psi pressure washer on a 0 degree nozzle. Seems that this crap gets soaked with water (it absorbs it), which makes it harder to remove, since it becomes more resilient (rubber-ish) when wet. Wish I could do this all in one go.

Post hole digger still won't run except for on starter fluid fumes though.

My neighbor bought a 4Runner to flip and was trying to get that off the hood. After trying a pressure washer and various other methods, I ended up using a wire wheel or a flap disc or something and just sprayed the hood after. It's been 6 months and I can still find flakes of that crap in my yard.

I cleaned the jet. Interesting about the float having a hole. How would that effect it from running though, by flooding it? How would I even check for a hole?

The float wouldn't lift the fuel intake needle (dont recall the technical term) if it was unable to float. The carb couldn't "detect" that it actually had fuel and would flood.

Remove float, put in a bucket of water with a weight to test. Let it sit for a while and ensure no liquid inside.

I'm still kicking myself a but for putting a $900 starbucks full auto espresso machine out to the curb instead of replacing the $120 heat exchanger/boiler.

Then again, our caffeine intake was reduced significantly by using something a but more labor intensive with a more semi-auto, low capacity clipazine manual of arms.

After an hour or so at 225ish on the smoker, pull the wings and cook an additional 20-30 minutes at 350 in the oven. This time I just dumped them into pans and didn't smoke out the whole house. Worked great, much less mess than letting the grease drip onto the bottom of the oven, right above the element.

Frank's Red Hot Wings Sauce is more buttery. Still use a big chunk of (half stick, at least) butter. Let the sauce simmer a bit and heat it slowly. If you get the butter too hot, it doesn't mix with the sauce and then the sauce won't stick to the wings; allegedly.

Thanks. To be honest, the last batch was better. I'm not sure what I did differently this time. I made the kid do the seasoning because she was the one that did it last time and I wanted to be consistent. Both her and I felt that we couldn't taste the dry rub hardly at all. Might be because we used two different kinds last time and only one this time. Got some BBQ rub from a member here but wife used the last of it on that turkey. Need to get more. Shout out to Ah-pook.

a week or so ago. I decided i wasn't paying $45+ for a roller handle. Looked in the scrap metal racks behind the shop and said, why not.
extended the threads on the rod, for height adjustment. Then set the roller mount ( a 5/8-11 nut) welded on to a rod, turned down to fit roller handle i.d.

2 hours later it's up and running.

Is that a heated grip ?

After an hour of "pulling" the handle, it can be. You like more pictures. I'l need the last 4 of your credit card, again ;)

I got the idea from someone making an aftermarket unit for the dillons. Looked at it a few minutes and said, i can do that. Plus i have the materials sitting on racks. I should post a pic of the material rack i scored at a garage sale.

I just did kitchen tile or ceramic wall job without tile cutter. Took much longer.
Looks great from far away, but look like regular diy level from close. Tomorrow we will receive new stove delivered.

Cool.

I put together a computer table and moved some furniture around to setup a home office for the wife. I need to get her out of the kitchen and into some dedicated space. I hope to get her all settled in this weekend. One of the pieces is a large cabinet with 4 doors and panes of glass and it's made out of what I think is natural finished solid sheesham wood. That damn thing is really heavy.
