Doorbell video captures violent Illinois home invasion which left coronavirus mask-wearing suspect dead (https://www.foxnews.com/us/doorbell-video-shows-illinois-home-invasion-suspects-in-coronavirus-masks)
Two armed robbers were caught in a doorbell video attempting to invade a home while wearing coronavirus (https://www.foxnews.com/category/health/infectious-disease/coronavirus) medical masks and gloves - in an incident that left one of them dead and the other under arrest.
The Illinois homeowner gunned down one of the suspects and chased the other out of his house in Arlington Heights, a Chicago suburb (https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/chicago) under a coronavirus lockdown.
Police made the video available Thursday to the Arlington Daily Herald (https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20200409/arlington-heights-police-release-doorbell-video-of-home-invasion); the incident happened Saturday.
Hearing the intruder being pummeled by the homeowner yelling, "Help! Help!" is very satisfying. The intruder that was fatally shot had held the family at gunpoint.

Is having a gun in the safe Illinois law?
Good to see people are still fighting back. Lucky it didn't end very poorly for the homeowner and his family, as it sounds like the homeowner didn't have his gun until after he chased/pummeled the suspect with the knife outside. He then returned inside, saw his wife and children being held at gunpoint, then retrieved his gun from a safe.

That's what I was also wondering...can't believe they made it long enough for that to actually occur. Wouldn't want to have to rely on the intruders not being motivated to actually use their weapons long enough for me to retrieve my gun from a safe to defend myself in my own home.

The Kimber lays close by all day and night while I'm indoors. On my person when I'm outdoors!

"Police said they recovered the suspects bag that contained zip ties and a blow torch." from ytube comments...
Weird. Did the homeowner know them or something? The masked guy says ?hey, how you doing?? as he casually strolls into the home followed by his buddy.
Or maybe the Chicago area is so safe and people are so friendly that you can just let strangers meander into your home?
So scary. They telegraphed by opening the screen door, looking inside, and all around.
Glad it was half a happy ending. Better than no happy ending.

He was expecting some landscapers. People wearing masks right now isn't exactly unexpected.

What kind of dumbass criminal watches his buddy get his ass kicked by the homeowner then waits for the homeowner to get his gun from the safe? A dead one.

Maybe a quick access pistol safe located near the front entrance just in case ? And not a 1,000 lb. monstrosity like most members here have in their basements or other places.

How do we know that isn't what he did?
A "safe" storage law is what the Democrat legislators have in store for Colorado. I will not comply.
I have one of those quick access safes. It rarely opens until I’ve practically rubbed my finger raw. I don’t keep anything in it due to that.

It's not a light switch. Jeeze.
I think everyone has different sensory levels, and a few safes may require some lotion.
I'm not sure I want a safe that I have to have an emotional attachment with. I already have a wife.
Sorry, I can't figure out what half of you are talking about. I'm sure IL has some stupid laws but not sure what that means here.

Correct, Illinois does have many many stupid laws and yet, we do NOT have to do our private transfers through a FFL like Colorado does.

In IL, do you need to show ID to buy ammunition or reloading components?

You have to show your FOID card to buy ammo, unless you^re an out of state resident.

So basically..... you're firearms are essentially registered. As well as ammo. That sucks.

Right, but it has had a significant impact on the murder rate in Chicago

Yeah, it appears so.
Can we focus on the important part here? Some pretty aggressive thugs got beat up/killed.
Beat up/killed/arrested/charged with murder. Glad the family is safe.
The family was safe the second they locked all their guns back up.

When we (in IL) transfer person to person, we call the Illinois State Police, furnish them with the buyers FOID number and if it clears (usually within a couple minutes), the transfer is made. Of course there is a 72 hour waiting period for the firearm to be held. The firearm SN is NOT furnished so there is NO such registration. When a FFL makes a transfer, the completed 4473 is kept in his posession for 20 years and the Gov does not have the firearm SN?s unless BATF Inspectors visit the FFL and get info off the completed 4473?s, or if FFL turns in his 4473?s at his close down of his business.[blaster]
