Well, my safe, quiet neighborhood ain't so quiet anymore.... Someone (shitbags most likely) tried to steal my DRZ from in front of my house last night. [Mad] They rolled it about 2 blocks away and then proceeded to hack up the ignition in an attempt to start it. They even took a screwdriver to the helmet lock (how you start a moto by tearing that up I'll never know...). Called dispatch to report it stolen and then an officer called me and we went over all of the pertinent info. As he was verifying my plate number, another officer was calling in the same plate number for being parked illegally two blocks away from my house. I walked over, and sure enough it was my moto. Even though they had torn apart the ignition face plate, I was able to get the key in and start it up. Rode it home. Lucky I guess. Even in my quiet corner of the state, we're going to have to start being more vigilant.

So you just park your motorcycle outside in front of the house on a regular basis?

Also, since I?m contemplating some security cameras for my house, I assume you didn?t catch footage of them taking it?

Edit- also, were the forks locked? Not that the DRZ is a heavy bike, but moving it a couple of blocks withe the forks locked wouldn?t be much fun.

Looks like they beveled the keyslot for you. That will work for faster key entry in case of emergencies.

Ya, park it out front most of the time. Usually have a cover on it, but had pulled it a few days ago to ride. I never would?ve considered someone stealing it... no cameras but gonna comb through the threads here and other places.

dang that sucks, but sure could've sucked more. Glad they didn't make it any further then they did. I'd be sick if someone did that to mine.

Back in 2011 I caught someone trying to steal my TW200 in front of the apartment complex I lived in. It was like 2AM and I heard a straight up dirtbike drive by in the parking lot. Then I heard it again like 2 minutes later. It stopped near the dumpster I could see from my 3rd floor window. Look out and the guy was pulling hard on the headlight plastic cover to get at my TW's ignition. Took some steps and he shot off like a bat out of hell.

I?ll admit, I was up at 3 AM having a look up and down the street last night. The cops said there?s been a rash of burglaries and vehicle break-ins in the past few weeks. Down the street neighbors told me someone stole some items out of their truck the same night my moto was jacked.
