This being the 4th summer in our new-to-us home in the Columbine area, wife is starting to nag me a bit about our grass. I've always hated yard work and regard anything other than mowing to be a nuisance but she does have a point - we have a large semi-bare area in the front yard and it doesn't look good and we live right on the corner so there's no hiding it.

I've always been the kind of person who says I don't need to have the best looking yard on the block, as long as I don't have the WORST looking yard but still, it's probably time to do something about the bare spot. When we lived in Englewood it was fine - you can literally have a yard full of dead grass in Englewood and nobody will care - but we're in a somewhat nicer neighborhood now and besides, we're going to have to sell this house eventually and I'd like the yard to look good when we do.

So who can recommend a business (preferably locally owned small business) to come take a look at my yard and give me some idea of what I'm going to need to do to make it look better? Not looking to spend a fortune but I'll spend what I need to in order to have a decent looking yard.

Thanks in advance!

Fiske Brothers Yardworks: http://fbyardworks.com/

They used to mow and trim weekly since about 2006, but I'm doing it again as of last year. They still do the fertilizer/Revive/aeration.

They may not go that far west, but it would be worth a call since they recommend calling if you're close to their area.

I've been with Elk Creek Lawn & Tree for a number of years, been very happy with the service/price. I'm in Centennial, just a little east of "real" Littleton (by that I mean not unincorporated Jeffco but Arapaho) but I believe they cover the all of the metro area.

Get a bag of seed, rake up the area pretty good, scatter seed and rake seed in to the dirt. Repeat every other month or so and by the end of this year your bare spots should be filled in. I’ve done it this way many times and always have good results. Obviously water it and so on.
