Ok, this isn't a rant but I just had the weirdest confrontation I've had in at least 30 years.

We went to the the local adult beverage store in south Castle Rock about 7:30 tonight. Everything is totally normal until the customer at the cash-register (Mr Serious who pulled in about 10 seconds behind us) tells me to tell my wife that she drives like an asshole.... Now, I'm totally fine with telling her that, but absolutely nothing had happened on the drive, no close lights, no honking, nothing. I ask what happened and the response, "You fucking know what happened," with no details and he became even more belligerent.

I'd say we both kept our calm for the most part, he called me a pussy and I said he should stop being a dick (hey maybe we should have gotten together). Then he asked me to go outside so he could teach me a lesson.... seriously, what person over 20 challenges someone to go outside, and this was a nicely dressed business man around 50 (+-5), given the grey hair. He ended the whole discussion with something very close to "If your wife ever wants a real man, have her call me". So we finished up and left. My wife and I reviewed the video of the entire drive, absolutely nothing happened and we didn't see his Titan in the video at all.

The best part was when the clerk came out and talked to us for several minutes about the "store-rage guy" that had him scared and ready to call 911.

I guess I just want to say to the guy in the Titan that not everyone wants to get in a fight and, yes, everything is pretty shitty right now..... I hope you're doing better tonight.

No harm no foul. :)

You are too kind. I would have followed him home and bludgeoned him in his driveway.

Wow. People are strange.

Maybe he’d already had a few?

Wonder if he just wanted to pick a fight. Some people are like that, especially if he had already been consuming before he went to buy more.

He was probably high on something. Or maybe he forgot to take his meds this morning.

LOL, I was totally sober and he seemed sober as well. Just seemed like someone who wanted to pick a fight, and in this day and age it was kind of surreal. My wife reminded me that he had Army or Air Force plates and we're totally willing to have a "man" who can come and do chores on the property. There is a lot of shit that needs to be done here.

Flocking beer, we should have just split some ever-clear in the parking lot.

I know there are bad asses out there, which is why I don't pick fights with people, on top of the fact I'm not a dick.

I had a nice laugh at that. Thank you!

I get called all kinds of shit at work almost daily. The best response is always, "Yes, I know" with a giant grin on my face. Most times the douche just stares at me with a WTF look and it de-escalates.

If you replied, "Yes, I know. Thanks!" it would have been interesting to see his response.

th3w01f
04-28-2020, 23:03
As the clerk said,... "I'm scared for his family"... there's a lot of unexpected shit going on and I'd always thought it would be much more black and white. Not the whole, go here, but do this and we're sort of OK. Total respect for everyone here moving forward, PM if you need anything and I'm happy to try and help. Moving back to stealth mode. :)

I did reply to the "go outside" with "are we going to make out" maybe that was too triggering?

Great response. I bet he replied with more asshole reply.
Maybe he saw another same vehicle thinking it was you. Either way, he is probably one D-baggy turds who needs a beer to chillax* :)

I won't go into details here, but last night (Monday night), I was chased for 10 - 15 minutes in my Civic by a guy in a full sized pickup. It was a scary HIGH SPEED chase too. I still have no idea how he kept up with me in that truck (tons of turns in a subdivision where I thought I could lose him; I eventually did).

Glad things turned out okay for you. There's a shit load of crazy going around right now. Everyone please be safe and kind when/where you can.

It's for the best it didn't escalate any further.

He reminds me of the type who waits until the handcuffs are on then decides it's a good time to wanna kick the cops ass...if the cop would just take those pesky handcuffs off of him.

That being said your a better man than me, the second he made a comment like that about my wife the boogaloo would have been on.

I drive a Titan, but I am under 50 and not particularly serious, so I don't think it was me. But I do think you handled it with surprising grace.

For reasons I don't really understand, I attract periodic spontaneous male rage. It happens with enough frequency for me to realize I am the common denominator, though. Which is odd, because I am exactly what I appear to be; a middle aged Dad with limited situational awareness and no particular desire to fight people. The last time it happened was at the Bad Ass Pizza in Johnstown a couple years back. Eating dinner with my family. There was another family in the booth behind us, with a two year old who couldn't stop messing with my five year old. I was mostly oblivious to it, and told my own boy to just ignore him and eat his food. A few minutes later, young hipster Dad is standing at my table leaning in my face. Says my boy told his boy he was going to come over to his house. I thought he meant my boy invited himself over for a play-date, so I chuckled and said 'you want to exchange numbers?' I couldn't figure out why Hipster Dad suddenly turned red and got closer to me. Figured he just had personal space issues. Turns out my boy said 'If you don't quit kicking the back of my seat and putting food in my hair, I am going to come to your house and beat you." I apologized for my son's threatening behavior. But that wasn't enough for Hipster Dad. He starts screaming that his son is only 2 years old. I say mine is only 5, and frankly I think he showed the maximum self control a five year old could be expected to exert in a challenging situation. Hipster Dad asks what am I going to do about this? I say 'well, I'm not going to have him publicly flogged. I think I'll just wait until you leave and then buy him an ice cream'. At this point, the waitresses are standing nervously near the table, and all eyes in the restaurant are on us. Hipster Dad is red as hell, shouting obscenities at me, and his wife is looking mortified and pulling on his arm to try and get him out of the store. I tell him he's doing a fine job of demonstrating conflict resolution skills for his child, as well as everyone else in the restaurant. Manager comes over and asks him to leave. We get free pizza out of the whole thing, so it wasn't all bad. Just very strange.

I use to get many drivers who tries to challenge me etc. So many camera footages. They did more of a "my car is faster and better than yours" type of maneuvers.

I use to get many assholes who tries start crap on the st or parking lot. That shit ended when I got a dash cam and action cam.

Camera is one of the best deterrents of crazies.

Not as many assholes over here because the traffic isn't as stressful. I did have one that barely registers a few years back, I was going to the post office and turned into a nose-in street parking spot on the opposite side. He whipped around and came back, by then I was out of my vehicle on the sidewalk, and tried to yell at me for "not signaling" because he was about to pass me on the double yellow....eerrr... All I did was turn towards him and say something like "And what's your resolution big guy?" and he took off fast.

I'm not an asshole magnet and have a fairly cool temper (I was mostly just getting the point, I thought my expression was incredulous), but I do have some variation of resting pissed face. My incredulous might be misinterpreted as stabby.

Over there on the east slope though, never know when someone will pull a gun if you sneeze disrespectfully.

ETA: There was one that definitely was bizarre but not high speed. Noticed a car making the same turns behind me, and we're not talking "turning right at an intersection a few times". Close in, A few stoplights, residential streets, zigzagging through a parking lot, then around a broad commercial center a couple times, and a several turns after that, but trying to be discreet behind me. Suddenly bailed when I took out the phone and started dialing non-emergency. (nighttime, so you can see when someone has a phone to their face). If you do have someone following you, not always best to run, call and drive towards LEO service (e.g. a station with a public lobby). I still wonder wth they were doing.

I'm generally pretty mellow, but had he said those things about my wife, I might have been tempted to accept his invitation to dance out in the parking lot, just to see what his reaction was. It's been a long, long time since I was in a fight, but I'm pretty sure I remember how it's supposed to go.

The problem is you will both be charged with assault when the cops show up if he does step outside with you. Sadly these punks ?win? as if you are any way aggressive towards them, you get charged too.

F'n South Castle Rock. In 2007 I stopped for gas and was in the store grabbing a Coke. Young guy runs in chased by an older guy with blood all over his face. Older guy starts pounding on the older guy, while moms and kids are running out of the store. I broke it up while the clerk called the cops. Apparently started as a road rage thing. I try to avoid South C Rock. It's the hood.
