View Full Version : What's your May Challenge?
I was messing around and told my friends I was going to give myself a challenge for the month of May. Something that's "easy" on paper, but will require dedication on my part. It started with 200 pull-ups in May. I laid down the challenge among several groups of friends and got many "I'm in!" responses. Now within at least one group it's morphed into 200 pull-ups, 2,000 push-ups, and doing some work on your vehicle that would cost you at least $1,000 if you paid a shop to do it.
What's your May challenge?

Continuing my efforts to avoid throttling people who are on paid home "vacation" which bitch about it or the hyper vigilant anti-germers who run around telling me how I should be living my life.
Not sure I will make it to the end of the month.
Get the yards done.
Figure out if I want to change jobs/divisions.
Do the front end on the suburban.
I may take a nap. I may not.
#1, to keep moving. Also, to complete the refinish work on our quad front door set--in the next two weeks. And, to begin replacing the old single pane cabin windows with four new ones that arrived too late last fall. All are of different dimensions so I have to re-frame the walls for each window. I have a new exterior door to install too, but I want to hire a good door man for that.
May challenge:
Take deck pics. It has taken me awhile to get it up. [flamingo]
Maybe I'll even get some older-model willy pics in exchange.

My task for May was to move 2 tons of rock in my back yard. My 2 boys and myself got it done yesterday. So I'm free to go to the range all I want this month.
My may plan was to walk entire 18th hole while weather was good. Before I do that, I need to hit the practice range for few weeks. I can't even hit a 8 iron correctly. :(

May task? I may get something done, or i may not. There's still shit piled up from Jan to address.
Simply to finish tumbling and sorting the endless buckets of once fired brass I have accumulated over the years. Trimming and further processing is done in small batches so will have to be a goal for another month (or several)...

Setting unrealistic goals is something I just don't do. Now that I'm retired I'm just wingin' anything after getting up in the morning.

Install a sprinkler system in the front and back yard. laid out head location yesterday and propressed the water line from the crawl space to the yard today. Now the easy part trenching the entire yard
...and doing some work on your vehicle that would cost you at least $1,000 if you paid a shop to do it.
Might have to do this.
I've had a new Honda Ridgeline radiator sitting around for a year. There's a generation 1 (mine's a 2007) Ridgeline design flaw in the transmission fluid pre-heat system that fails and mixes the transmission and coolant, creating what's called "The Pink Milkshake of Death".
The trick is to replace your radiator before 100,000 miles in states where the road treatment causes a lot of corrosion. I'm gotten away with it so far at 120,000 miles, but I need to replace it this summer.

I got soft, real soft. Charmin soft.
Cardio every day and not missing a planned day of lifting.
Dry fire 3-4 times a week with the limitation that I won't go shooting that week if I didn't get my dry fire reps in.
You should take a look at the "Murph" challenge workout. It's a memorial workout done annually in memory of Navy Lt. Michael Murphy. It's done on Memorial Day traditionally & if you're considering pullups & pushups in the month of May this is an awesome workout with a good cause. There's more to read online via various sources about charitable donations & what not but if you just want to do the workout it consists of the following done for time:
1-mile run
100 pull-ups
200 pushups
300 air squats
1-mile run
Done in a 20lb weighted vest if you want to complete it as prescribed. Many people just do it w/o a weighted vest with even more still doing it via scaled versions of the movements. Unless you're an elite athlete how you do it isn't as important as just doing it.
It's challenging but it's a great cause & wonderful motivation to do something you may not otherwise do. I would advise reading about the back story that was Operation Red Wings (think "Lone Survivor" movie) if you're not familiar because it's inspirational when you think you can't keep going.
This is a popular workout all over the country & if you check locally you'll likely find a local CrossFit gym that will let you come do it for free & even help with scaling options & what not. The feeling of community & comradery during this workout is infectious.
One year we did the workout at a CrossFit gym in Mexico while traveling. The amount of respect they paid to the workout in honor of a fallen American soldier was humbling. It's a feeling I'll keep with me the rest of my years.
Anyway, if you want to attempt it & have any questions, let me know.

My goals in order of importance:
1) Lose the 10-15lbs I gained eating carry out in a hotel for 50 days.
2) Get all boxes unpacked and hopefully get rid of some crap.
3) Ride tons of Mountain bike, which I've fallen in love with since getting here.
4) Get my desert back yard (basically a blank canvas) figured out.

Figure out a new career since the government's overreaction to this pandemic has all but eliminated the possibility of reopening. I spent 16 years making a name for myself and POOF. Begin again.
I have been frantically canning, re-arranging the stuff in the freezer, and preparing to plant my victory garden.

Get more time in with my 6.5 Creedmore AR. That thing is soooooo much fun to shoot. Problem is, the ammo is pricey!

Too stay on track with my new nap regimen. Pre-nap,main nap,and after nap !!! Also to repair the damn door handle on the Ranger !!!!
I was in the planning stages for a vacation when all of this nonsense started so maybe as things start returning to normal I can get back on track and decide where and when the wife and I want to go.
Possibly try and shed a few pandemic pounds as well.
Going to be getting new tires for the motorcycle next week so I?ll be good to go for riding season.
Need to start looking for a rimfire rifle as well.

May challenge: Teach my 6,4 and 3 year old to bottle feed calves and the responsibility of animal ownership. I though one would be perfect, somehow I ended up with one for each boy.
Side note: never go to a livestock auction if you love animals.

If I take the wife and kids, I will need a bigger trailer.
Unfortunately you're not the only one in that boat.
Noah's Ark isn't big enough.
I decided to not take a nap and clean the double ovens in the range. When they say "self-cleaning", they lie. You actually have to hit a button for that to happen.
On a positive note with the oven cleaning, I found a screw in the bottom convection oven. I had been noticing uneven browning on the right side and figured that was just the oven losing its mind. Turns out, that screw was holding up the element on the top of the oven. I was able to use the front facing camera on my phone to find where it had fallen out and the element was hanging down a bit lower than it should. Tightened everything up and now it works like it supposed to. Baked some cookies and they turned out great.
Who knew you'd find broken stuff when you do maintenance? [facepalm]

I have two Jeeps. I have one will be a long term project( never complete in May) and one that was/is my daily driver. I want to finish up some lingering projects on it to have it done, done. Last summer almost died a few days with no AC. Leaking condenser. Crappy heat too in the winter. Pulled the heater core box tonight. Posted sliders last week. Once box is all done, install new gas tank skid.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200505/bc3299c5dd2d1247887c130cb315b00b.jpg

Need to pull entire dash. I have done this on three other Jeep before so this one went pretty well. Only a one swear job. Dropped a wrench.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200505/31c4043422beccc2451adf58e1fd7cd6.jpg

Well you're gonna need that nap now, Gman.
Mine was to replace the exhaust manifold on the ecoboost f150.
It was warped about 3/16 from one end to the other.
If only those engineers used all of the holes in the cylinder head (13) instead of 8....
And whatever engineer designed the coolant line "quick connects" can suck it.
Oh, and Autozone can eat it too... $37 for 5 qts of mobil 1? $20 for a gallon of antifreeze? Ugh
At least I had the chance to check on the tiny turbo's health. Looked pretty good, despite having a 1" hole in the intake pipe for who knows how long.
I stuck with it, and as far as I know I'm the only one out of all the people who said they were "In!"
Currently at 184 pull-ups and 1,576 push-ups.
The pull-ups got better, but I'm mighty sick of push-ups. It really doesn't help that I'm not really doing any other exercising, so every set that I do is usually stone cold.
Did you squeak out another 424 pushups last week Irving?
FTR, I was unofficially in. Sort-of-finished a 700SF cantilever deck on Tuesday. Can't finish the railing until a few more parts get here. Yay USPS.
My monthly challenge is to have a full financial freedom and retire comfortably even at this crazy inflation rate.
Always fail.
Yeah I reached the goal. I did nothing yesterday, and probably nothing today, but I'm at 259 pull-ups and 2027 push-ups.
I'm surprised you were able to keep count for a month tbh. Between losing track and "help" in counting, I'd have gotten screwed up 5% of the way in.
I will say, monthly goals seem more productive than New Years resolutions.
I created a spread sheet that includes rep count and number of reps. I wanted to see if # of reps would increase over time.
