Gentleman and Ladies, First time posting but have enjoyed the forum for a few years, I have a problem I have never ran into before. The firing pin in the pictures is out of a 6.5 Grendel, new build, 60 rounds total. Rounds Hornady BLK. Has a Daniel Defense Ultra mach trigger, standard buffer. Shot flawlessly and accurately with the exception of 2 failures to eject Weak spring/rectified.

I have never seen this much deformation to a firing pin with so little use. Any thoughts on why this has occurred?

I have replaced the pin and will fire again and recheck it.

Thank you.

Did you inspect the firing pin during initial assembly? I only ask because I wouldn't have. Perhaps it's a bad from the factory.

Excellent question and yes. No issues noted at initial inspection. This was a budget upper as it is a Bear Creek so perhaps just an inferior pin but in truth with thirty five years of shooting ARs I've had some cheep stuff before and never seen this much over such a small amount of rounds.....truthfully Ive shot thousands of rounds and the pin looked better than this. Just curious as to what you all may think.
Thank you for the prompt reply/question.

Poor metallurgy? I have a couple new 6.5 BCA bcgs that I should try. I'll let you know
