Had some pretty wild weather as a front came thru last night. Little town a few miles east of here had softball sized hail. The cluster of storms split just before it got to my place...the bulk of it with the worst weather went south and the other part went north. Fortunately, no severe weather here.
I have a company coming out next month to install a storm shelter. Just need to keep dodging bullets for the next 6 weeks.
Before the storm...some classic mammatus pouches:

After the front passed...storms building to the east. I thought the light was gorgeous:

Yeah, I enjoy watching them, too. Especially once they've passed by.
You've lived around Houston, so you probably have seen it where everything had a greenish hue before all hell broke loose.
I don't miss that at all.
Stay safe!

We get it here too. Border line bone chill if it happens to be traveling your way. We got it in 2010, no tornado but baseball sized hail and 80mph straight line winds. Insurance claim went over 30K for house and property and 12K for autos.

Could be worse. Some have lost their entire home from this storm.

Did the Keebler elves survive?
Unfortunately not. When their tree fell, it damaged the septic and they all drown.

Missouri. Think it's from the same storm you were talking about that split in two. This picture is a good representation of what most of the town looks like.

Thanks, I was just glad it didn't seem to involve any lightning.
It was very windy and I wasn't willing to get a tripod set up due to electricity concerns so I'd hop out of the vehicle, shoot a few as steady as I could hold it, move down the road, see a better angle, change lenses, hop out and shoot a few more. I was always glad to get back in the car (I've had a few lightning 'incidents' and didn't want to add another one to the list).

Ditto.
I've only had a front-row seat once to a tornado and the whole 'storm chaser' thing finally made sense. I was on I-70 near the KS/CO border and there were dozens of white weather vans chasing this thing that was meandering across the plains. I pulled off and watched with many of them from an overpass: those things really are quite mesmerizing if you have a mile or so of elbowroom between you and them. That said, I have no desire to live where they are commonplace.

Nice. Does a lot of stuff happen right there? Does the new driveway cause traffic issues? The state made them move the driveway.
I dont have a good weather picture, but I do have a photo of my entire ridge vent laying on the ground near my porch for me when I got home today.

-the highway on 90 up there is such that where the tires are is recessed from years of use and those recessed grooves/lanes were full of water which was unnerving from a hydroplane standpoint. It did a fantastic job of washing the bugs off my bumper though :) By the time I made it down to Casper things were pretty nice (8:30pm or so).

Nothing really dramatic...just interesting. A small roll cloud forms along the gust front of a dissipating thunderstorm. About 15 minutes later it stretches for miles.

We missed the drain by about a week. Shitty for sure on our first trip there. Will go back.

We were there the first weekend in October and could literally walk all the way across. Pretty comical trying to get the kayak afloat in 8 inches of water 200 yard from the stairs. It's pretty close tyo the house so it's one of our favorites.

Its the closest place to me as well. Any farther pulling the camper, and I prefer to swap over wheels and tires on the truck because the 22's aren't ideal for dragging that weight.
Sucks that fishing is gonna be pretty terrible for the next few years.
We went at the beginning of August. Had never been there, so scoped it out the week prior. They must have started draining it right after we left, because when we came back to camp, the water was about 20ft lower.
We actually found it looking through YouTube for fishing spots. Actually met the guy who's channel we saw out there.
I think that Pawnee is really beautiful, especially captured at the right times.

Kelvin-Helmholtz Clouds
Appear when there?s a difference in densities of the air ? for example, during a temperature inversion ? when warm air flows over cooler air. You?re also more likely to see these clouds near sunrise or sunset, another time when the bottom of the clouds are cooler and the air above is warmer. The clouds take on this wave shape when the air above is moving more quickly than the air below, pushing over the tops of the clouds and creating the rolling wave appearance. As you might have guessed, Kelvin-Helmholtz clouds are a sign that aircraft in the area will be experiencing turbulence.
