View Full Version : So I had a sit-down lunch today at a restaurant
Yes, the one out in Calhan that you may have heard about on the news. I am not terribly old or fat, and will be exposed much more when work gets back to normal in a week or three.

It was nearly full when I arrived, and there were a lot of people waiting outside when I left.
The tables were certainly not jammed together and they were wiping the menus after each use. Condiments and such that are usually on the table were by request. A few folks had masks, obviously not while eating, but when waiting or paying at the register.
If anyone chooses to do the same, there is a lesser-known but cool county park about 10 minutes away. Lots of people were there too, but with sunshine and of course wind I had zero concerns. https://communityservices.elpasoco.com/parks-and-recreation/paint-mines-interpretive-park/

Drove by it on Thursday and thought about stopping in. Glad to hear they are still operating.

Did you happen to get a look at their hours?

Nothing open for dining here yet. Last time I ate outside of home was 3/9...at Whataburger. The drive-thru is open but the line/wait time is still longer than I'm willing to endure right now. Things are slowly re-opening so I'm hoping it won't be much longer.
I?m going out for a steak just as soon as I can.
Ona related note, I?m also looking forward to taking in some Rockies and Avalanche games.

Down here the current SIP law is, as the state said, Unenforceable. While "they" can make suggestions, business can open without fear of an over zealous .gov entity fining the shit out of them,
because. We're from the government and We're here to help

No, I did not. Their menu has breakfast items, so I assume all day.
KOAA here in the 'springs has got a bee in their bonnet about the Karen's Kafe in Calhan.
Normally KOAA has an occasional segment where they go to bat for individuals or small companies that government is effing over.
Not this time, they decided to go full Karen (not a reference to the name of the cafe) on this small business and are doing everything in their power to make sure Karen's Kafe gets shut down.
I can't find it at the moment, but in a segment in the last week they stated (from memory) "We waited outside 45 minutes and filmed this man going into the restaurant WITH A SMALL CHILD!!!!!" (do it for the children argument).
Why don't you wait outside a Walmart for 30 seconds and film the same thing?
Kinda disappointed in KOAA, but I've know for a long time they were far left.
Once they drew everyone's attention to the cafe, this of course was the inevitable result: https://www.koaa.com/news/coronavirus/county-health-department-moves-forward-with-cease-and-desist-order
O2
Ps. Last year they did a "in-depth 360" report on guns and their "balanced coverage" did not include a SINGLE person who had used a gun in self defense. Balanced my @$$.
This shit won't be over until the Pres elections in Nov are done.

I get chow at Karens when I come back from BLGC. The owners are prior service, good people and the chow is outstanding. I usually get the special, never been disappointed.
People can make the decision if they want to take the risk or not. The government has proven that they have no obligation to protect us, so get the EFF out of the way.
Will be interesting if/when state governments knee-jerk and try and shut things down again. I've certainly had my fill of it. I'll take dangerous freedom over socialist 'safety' every day.

Good for them.
I hope they continue to stay open and do business against the ?law?.
We?ll see if the governor is prepared to go full on Ruby Ridge to prove how serious his ?laws? are.
I ate at C & C today. Going tomorrow for breakfast if they are open. I support what they are doing.
Of historical note a lot of the same pushback and entity-reopening was seen in 1918. People can Google "anti-mask league" to find a good historical read. Not a position on it, just interesting to see the historical analoges.
Not even news worthy in other parts of the country I guess. Did your bar have guns in it? Mine did.

Even in Colo. I guess Mesa county has a state-approved modification and restaurants are half open there, FWIW. I wonder if any other counties have their own schedule.

Those don't look very accessible. ;-)
What are those, fried mushrooms? They look good.

So? It sounds like they are still open. A silly piece of paper doesn't change the fact that they will exchange cash for food.
I hope this rona shows how silly certain aspects of our government are irrelevant and should be eliminated. Business license for example.

Went there on Saturday.
How does home rule play into these orders?
That only applies when big-city shitholes like Denver want to throw their weight around.
