So I noticed this gouge on my Sig 556 this past weekend. any ideas how this happned?

Over pressure round? Looks like the bolt didn’t rotate smoothly. Was it operating roughly, have a jam, or did you just happen to notice during cleaning.

Noticed it during cleaning. Not sure if I noticed it last time I cleaned it. I also shoot it supressed.

I’m not familiar enough with the 556. I would contact Sig, I believe they have pretty good customer service, although I don’t think they are particularly fast from what I’ve heard.

I assume that is where a lug from the bolt itself rides (and cams to unlock)..... if so you had some sort of OOB event which caused the bolt to slam rearwards.
That cratered the carrier.

Yes, call SIG and have them sort it out.

My original 716P would not reliably cycle suppressed. It was for the most part a one shot wonder. Sent in for repair. It cycled a little better but still not reliable and the bolt carrier was striking the lower. Sent in again. They replaced the whole gun. Not exactly a Gen2 but it was a newer design. Super reliable now but sadly a little less accurate barrel on this one.
