I dont think I would call that a "Happy Ending".
The man was forced to react to a threat which then forced him to take actions to preserve his own life.
His life is forever changed.
Hardly a "Happy" occurance.

As for a guy who had to defend his life? More of a traumatic occurence with fair outcome. :)
