Alright so just inherited a few rifles that were in need of some TLC, that being said one has a detachable box magazine that would appear has been made to not allow the follower and spring to come out (all guns from early 1930?s). That being said how would one clean the magazine as there is a good amount of crud under the follower? Soak in soapy water? Qtip? Have my ideas but wanted to see if there were any other ideas floating around that worked well

Sonic cleaner is what I would use now. Otherwise I would consider going after it with some Toluene or carb cleaner, trying to keep the finish in tact of course.

If you must wash old steel parts in hot, soapy water, be sure to dry carefully to prevent rust.
I'd use one of my heated ultrasonic tubs, then do a finishing step with a water displacer (WD40, rubbing alcohol or acetone), and finally apply a film of light machine oil for storage.
